Carson, California
Carson is a city in Los Angeles County, California. As of the 2010 census, Carson had a total population of 91,714. Located 13 miles south of downtown Los Angeles and approximately 14 miles away from the Los Angeles International Airport. Incorporated on February 20, 1968, Carson is the youngest municipality in the South Bay region of Metropolitan Los Angeles.

International Printing Museum director Mark Barbour prints a copy of the Declaration of Independence on the Ramage Press at the museum. This press is the third oldest in the country and this was the first time in 150 years that it had been used. This was part of the museum's m4th of July celebration. The launch nears for Expedition 24's three new members. Cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin, and NASA astronauts Dough Wheelock and Shannon Walker are slated to liftoff on a Soyuz rocket for the International Space Station on Tuesday, June 15. Launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan is scheduled for 2:35 p.m. Pacific.
The Langley Research Center has broken ground on a new facility dedicated to bringing astronauts home safely from space.
The Marshall Space Flight Center honored the 'best of the best' during its Honor Awards ceremony. The awards acknowledge exceptional contributions by both civil servant and contractor employees.

By the way you might notice I mispronounced standing type as standard type when reading Doc's placard for the United States of Columbia. Again, shame on me! Standing type refers to arrangements of elements for printing, but instead of being distributed (i.e., returned to the case afterwards) is kept standing for later reprints. That's relevant to the evidence Doc used for his argument on p. 72 of his book regarding the Tolima stamps I acquired. Narrator: The Trump campaign's officially licensed Make America Great Again, or MAGA hats, are made here, at the Cali-Fame headwear factory in Carson, California, just outside of Los Angeles.
Brian Kennedy: The fabric, the cord, the plastic strap, the fabric underneath, the sweatband, the whole hat is made here in America.
Narrator: The company doesn't only make MAGA hats. It specializes in all kinds of headwear, which it manufactures and customizes. But the company has worked with Trump for years. Before the campaign, Cali-Fame made hats for Trump's golf courses.
Brian Kennedy: We've been making golf hats since the '50s. Cali-Fame Los Angeles was one of the first golf hat manufacturers.
Narrator: The red MAGA hat retails for $25. Every purchase of a MAGA hat, along with any other item for sale on the Trump campaign's official website, counts as a campaign contribution. Around 100 employees work in the factory, and according to an interview Brian Kennedy did with the Los Angeles Times in 2015, around 80% of the workforce is Latino. And according to the Trump campaign, all employees are verified U.S. citizens. We didn't speak to any employees during our shoot. But in 2015, MSNBC visited the factory and reporter Jacob Soboroff spoke to some of the workers.
Jacob Soboroff: When you heard that Trump, you're gonna make the hats for Trump, what was the first thought that went through your mind?
Cali-Fame Employee: Well, more work for us.
Jacob Soboroff: Some of the stuff that he's said, it's not been particularly nice to the Latino community. When you guys hear some of that stuff, what do you think?
Cali-Fame Employee: I just try to ignore it.
Narrator: Making the hats requires a 23-step process, much of which is done by hand.
Brian Kennedy: So the way we manufacture the hat, the first process is spreading material. We take it right to the embroidery machine, and then from embroidery we're taking it right to the sewing operation where we're creating both the bill and the crown separately, so that eventually we put these two parts together by attaching the sweatband, finishing it with the plastic strap that's made in the U.S. Then we steam the hat, press the hat, and we also finish the cord and glue that down before we pack the hat.
Narrator: The hats are shipped to the headquarters of Ace Specialties in Lafayette, Louisiana. Ace is the Trump campaign's official merchandise distributor, and the company fulfills all orders from the Trump campaign's website. According to the Trump campaign, hundreds of thousands of MAGA hats have been sold since Trump's campaign began.
Brian Kennedy: We are one of the few American companies left making hats. There is a need, a niche, for that American product, and that's what we've been really striving for the last couple of years. It's an incredible opportunity to make this hat for the President of the United States. I think that this hat is an icon for what is going on in the country and we're really happy to make the hat for the president. Hopefully we can keep this going.

What started as a public art project grew into a sharing of cultures, building a richer more vibrant community.
Maria Partridge is the Artist Advocate for Burning Man. She has been on the Board of Advisors for Burning Man’s non profit art organization the Black Rock Arts Foundation since 2008, working as the civic arts liaison in Reno.
Maria has been teaching art; drawing, painting, watercolor and graphic design at Truckee Meadows Community College since 2002. She has exhibited her paintings and drawings throughout the United States. Solo shows have included the Nevada Museum of Art, Sierra Art Gallery, Truckee River Gallery and the Agora Gallery (SoHo) in New York City. She received her Masters of Arts degree from California State University, Sacramento in 2004. Her work is represented in national and international private collections. She was nominated for the prestigious Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant in New York in 2007.

Dick Spottswood: Mini Symposium
The renowned discographer, researcher, author, broadcaster and scholar of folk and ethnic music Dick Spottswood participated in a two-part event at the Library, featuring an interview about his career and accomplishments followed by a panel with prominent Washington area folklorists, ethnomusicologists, discographers and archivists highlighting his numerous contributions to American music.
- Among his many accomplishments, Dick Spottswood is celebrated as the author of the essential Ethnic Music on Records: A Discography of Ethnic Recordings Produced in the United States, 1893-1942, a seven-volume listing of early sound recordings by foreign language and minority groups in the U.S.; the 15-volume LP series Folk Music in America, produced for the Library of Congress to mark the 1976 Bicentennial; for his research on Caribbean, South American, bluegrass, blues, and country recordings; and for his contributions to hundreds of influential reissue recordings by labels such as Arhoolie, Rounder, Yazoo and Bear Family as well as his own Melodeon and Piedmont labels.
