Into the wild elephant camp, chiangmai, Thailand
Into the wild elephant camp chiangmai Thailand is a camp that save and rescue elephant, they only take max guess per tour no more than that, they want the elephant to enjoy and playing with human not being in the crowd. I personally love it the concept save and rescue and no riding.
Into the Wild - Elephant Tour | Chiang Mai | Weltreise Vlog #06

Into the Wild Elephant Camp
At Into the Wild in Chiang Mai the elephants are free to do what they love the most as they roam in the vast forest, play contentedly in the refreshing river and enjoy their long lives post retirement. We recently established our camp with their well-being in mind and they have returned to their natural habitat, the serene jungle of Northern Thailand.
My day Into The Wild Elephant Camp in Chiang Mai Thailand
I planned my solo trip to Thailand and this was my main reason for going! To be with the elephants! This was the top highlight of my trip and one of my most happiest days on earth!

Worlds friendliest elephants, Maesa Elephant Camp, Chiang Mai, Thailand, Travel, Culture, exploring..The elephant shows at Maesa Elephant Camp present the ones that mainly highlight talent and ingenuity of the elephants, where you can see over 20 elephants. Watched them bathing and then going up to the elephant grounds to see the shows, where visitors are greatly fascinated and impressed with abilities of Thai elephants at Maesa Elephant Camp... (Comment) I love elephants. To spend the day feeding them, and going on a ride was amazing. I fully loved my time at Maesa. Their show is well worth it. It is truly amazing watching them paint.

Chiang Mai, Thailand - Elephant Jungle Sanctuary
The adventure around the world for one year continues as we backpack on a budget though Southeast Asia. Stephen, Jordyn and I had vistited the incredible EJS two years before when they only had one camp (now called Camp 3) where we met Robert, a passionate little Karen tribesman, and the elephants they rescued from abuse. We learned about how wild elephants used to roam in their village, but were slowly taken away to be sold into the logging industry and entertainment business. The tribe decided to dedicate their land to bring the elephants back home 3 years ago, and have since rescued 70 elephants and opened 9 more sanctuaries! We learned that RIDING ELEPHANTS IS REALLY BAD and that as people learn, they spread the word and more camps are being shut down! ITS WORKING!
Watch my first video of our experience at the sanctuary and the story of how we learned that riding Elephants in Bali on our honeymoon wasn't the best decision we've ever made.

Can elephants really paint?
hances are you've seen one of the many videos of an elephant grabbing a paintbrush, dipping it in paint, and producing a painting similar to something a 5-year-old could create. There's no way this could be real. Right?
Wrong. The intelligence of elephants is comparable to primates (and in some instances, elephants give humans a run for the money). Meanwhile, their dexterous trunks allow them to use tools to draw on paper. The distinction, however, lies in whether the elephant is painting on a whim or has been trained to do so. As you probably have guessed, the latter is most often the case.
Elephants are utterly magnificent beings. When seen in the wild, they appear like creatures from another world, and their size and grace is so humbling to a mere human. It is near impossible not to be absolutely floored by the sight of a real life pachyderm, and what could be more astounding than watching a gentle elephant use his trunk to paint a picture of a flower? This encounter would surely be the most peaceful, beautiful experience one is likely to ever have.
But wait; let’s take a step back for a moment. Under what circumstances would you come across an elephant painting a picture in the wild? Last we checked, plains of Thailand didn’t have a craft corner…
Well, if you find yourself in this rather bizarre situation, chances are said painting-elephant is being held in captivity. Elephant tourism is extremely popular in Thailand, so much so that the native Asian elephant population has all but disappeared from the wild. Tourists from across the world flock to Thailand to have an experience unlike anything they could get at home. Seeing a live elephant is often included as one of these experiences. Lucky for tourists, there are countless elephant trekking excursions, and elephant “camps,” where (for a small fee) people can spend the day in the presence of these breathtaking animals.
But, as we look more closely into these “happy” elephant excursions, the more concerned we become for the welfare of the elephants living in captivity.
The Incredible Elephant Artists of Thailand
The Maesa Elephant Camp has been in operation since 1976, and is credited with pioneering the concept of the “artist” elephant. Maesa Elephant Camp is located just outside Chiang Mai, Thailand, a Thai tourism hotspot. There are seventy-eight elephants currently “enrolled” in the camp, all of whom were purchased by the camp’s founder, Choochart Kalmapijit’s over the past thirty years.
The Maesa Elephant Camp website explains, “Choochart purchased elephants from all over the country, and with their mahouts and other experts, worked and fell in love with the elephants, revealing one skill or fact after another about these pachyderms.”
How are Elephants Taught to Paint in Chiang Mai?
According to the Maesa Elephant Camp website, the artists of the camp started to take the stage in 2000, “when the young calves in Maesa Elephant Nursery reached two year of age, it was time to separate them from their mothers. ”
And like all good adults, these little elies were put to work! “From that day forward, these little ‘Jumbos’ would live with and be trained by a mahout, learning commands, performing skills, and – for the first time at Maesa Elephant Camp – painting!”
Further, the site explains that it took around a month to teach the elephants to learn to hold a brush with their trunks – they were a bit reluctant at first, but got the hang of it in no time! Once this skill was mastered, they were ready to learn to dip their brushes into paint. “One of our pachyderm prodigies successfully painted dots, while the other three chose to paint beautiful lines.”
Maesa Elephant Camp in Chiang Mai Part 1/2.
In the lush tropical jungle of Chiang Mai's Maesa Valley, a big family of elephants lives side by side with their mahout caretakers. Maesa Elephant Camp is home to one of the largest assembly of elephants in the north of Thailand .
Their philosophy is to create a natural and healthy environment for the elephants while working to conserve and breed them, due to the dwindling number of Asian elephants left in the wild.

Full Day Elephant Experience | Chiang Mai, Thailand
Today is our 2nd day exploring around Chiang Mai and we are so excited because we are doing a full day Elephant Experience with Into the Wild Elephant Camp.
We get picked up and drive about 1.5 hours outside of Chiang Mai to the camp. Our guide introduces us to their 5 elephants and explains that they were rescued from other camps where they were being poorly treated.
We get started feeding the elephants bananas. We each get a full bag of 30 or so bananas and we are amazed at how quickly the elephants devour them.
We then head out into the jungle to trek with them for around 2 hours. It is quite the slow pace with a lot of stops for them to feed. We learn that elephants eat around 19 hours of the day and we can tell they have a serious appetite!
We head back to camp for some lunch and then make medicine balls for the elephants out of a bunch of natural ingredients. And finally the last activity on the agenda, we give the elephants a mud bath before rinsing them off in the river.
It is now time to head back to Chiang Mia after a very full and exciting day.
We booked this experience with Into the Wild Elephant Camp. We did a lot of research on the different company options to make sure we were choosing an ethical one. Into the Wild strives to provide the elephants with a comfortable and free environment in the jungle and we had an amazing experience interacting with the elephants in their element.

Spending the Day with Elephants - Chiang Mai, Thailand
This is a little record of our day at Mae Rim Elephant Sanctuary in September of 2018. As I was researching opportunities to interact with elephants in Thailand, I was really worried about the ethics of it all, but was very pleased with our experience at Mae Rim. They told us where each elephant was rescued from and the interactions all day seemed very much on the elephants' terms. Our head guide was wonderful and funny and knowledgable and he used to work for the government of Thailand keeping tabs on the wild elephant population. All in all, would definitely recommend.

Looking for an ethical elephant sanctuary 2018? GO HERE!! | Chiang Mai - Vlog #17
Looking for an ethical elephant sanctuary near Chiang Mai, Thailand? Wild elephants living free in the jungle at Elephants at Home.
This day was a really special day for us - we went to Elephants at home, an Elephant Sanctuary in Chiang Mai! After a lot of research for an ethical elephant sanctuary, we chose this family run company.
Here you can spend the day with the Karen tribe, that lives together with three wild, free elephants in the jungle 2,5 hours outside of Chiang Mai.
They picked us up at our hostel in Chiang Mai in the morning and then drove us to their village where they already have lived for hundreds of years, alongside with their elephants, in the mountains of Chiang Mai. There we spend our day caring for the elephants, washing and feeding them.
Directly after arrival we were able to first meet and get to know the elephants and the other people that took part in the tour. In total we were only 6 tourists, so we were a really small group and could enjoy an intimate and non-touristy elephant experience.
After meeting everyone we got a lot of information about elephants in general and about the elephants at the elephant sanctuary. Furthermore we were provided with traditional clothes of people from the Karen tribe. Then we fed the elephants before we walked with them along the river and through the jungle to a waterfall. Here we enjoyed a traditional Thai lunch before we went into the water to bath the elephants. It was so amazing to see how much fun the elephants had, playing in the water! After washing the elephants we went into the waterfall, that was so strong, that we struggled to keep our eyes open. After this refreshing bath we headed back to the village again with the elephants. A quite slow walk, since the elephants always stopped to eat :D In the afternoon it was then time to drive back to Chiang Mai. Before we recieved a lot of photos from the day!
When we arrived at our hostel in Chiang Mai we were incredibly tired, but also really happy. We got the feeling that we made the right choice and that Elephants at home really is an ethical elephant sanctuary where people care about the well-being of the elephants. It was an incredible experience to meet the Karen tribe living together with their elephants and so far definitely the best day during our travel! Our No. 1 thing to do in Chiang Mai!
So, if you are in Chiang Mai don't miss out on this! But before you go to an elephant sanctuary please do your research and make sure, it's an ethical one.
