Bizarre Love Triangle is a single released in 1986 by the English rock band New Order. A version is included on their album Brotherhood.
Though it is one of the group's best known singles, it failed to make the Top 40 in either the United Kingdom or the United States. In the band's native England, Bizarre Love Triangle only reached No. 56.[2] In the United States, the song reached 4 on the Hot Dance Music/ Club Play Singles chart and 8 on the Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart, but failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 in its original 1986 release. However, a new mix included on the The Best of New Order was released in 1994 and finally made a brief appearance on Billboard Hot 100 in the 1995 as a minor hit. The one country where it was a sizable chart hit was Australia, where it reached No. 5 (and No. 1 in the Victoria state chart), initiating a string of five consecutive Top 20 hits.[citation needed]
In 2004 the song was ranked number 201 in Rolling Stone's The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
THE FIVE SATINS - IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT (1956)
The Five Satins are an American doo-wop group, best known for their 1956 million-selling song, In the Still of the Night.
The group, formed in New Haven, Connecticut, consisted of leader Fred Parris, Lou Peebles, Stanley Dortch, Ed Martin and Jim Freeman and Nat Mosley in 1954. With little success, the group reorganized, with Dortch and Peebles leaving, and new member Al Denby entering. The group then recorded In the Still of the Night, a very big hit in the United States which was originally released as the B-side to the single, The Jones Girl. The single was initially issued on the tiny local Standord label and after some local Connecticut sales, it was released the following year on the New York label Ember, and In the Still of the Night ended up charting at number three on the R&B chart and number 25 on the pop charts. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc.[1] Parris entered the Army soon after, and the group reorganized again, with Martin, Freeman, Tommy Killebrew, Jessie Murphy and new lead Bill Baker. This lineup hit with another highly successful song, Billy Dawn Smith's To the Aisle.
Upon Parris' return from the Army, a new lineup was assembled, consisting of Parris, Lou Peebles (who was in a previous incarnation of the Five Satins), Sylvester Hopkins, Richie Freeman and Wes Forbes. The group would be briefly known as Fred Parris and the Scarlets, until the Baker-led group split up. At this point, they reverted to the Five Satins name, but had little success on the charts.
By the early 1970s the group was Parris, Peebles, Richie Freeman, Jimmy Curtis and Corky Rogers, and they continued recording into the 1980s, with Parris, Richie Freeman, Curtis and Nate Marshall. Meanwhile, Bill Baker started his own Five Satins group in 1981, with former Satin Sylvester Hopkins and Hopkins' brothers Arthur Count Hopkins, Sr. and Frank. By the late 1980s, this group consisted of Baker, Harvey Potts, Jr., Anthony Hofler and Octavio DeLeon. In 1990, the group was joined by Jimmie Wilson stepping into the first tenor position for Don Simpson.
Fred Parris and Richie Freeman continue to perform. Bill Baker died in 1994
One of the original members of the Five Satins now works in the cafeteria at the University of New Haven. Jim Freeman lives in Norwalk, Iowa and owns a pest control company. Wes Forbes is a psychologist in the State of California, currently employed with Alliant International University as a Training Director. Richie Freeman is the house sound engineer at NY's famed Iridium jazz club.
Fred Parris and Richie Freeman are still actively performing occasionally with the Five Satins. The lineup now also includes Eugene Dobbs, originally the lead singer and founder of Nu-Cullers[3] and Nadina Perry.
They are supported by musicians Pat Marafiote (keyboards and MD), Greg Borino (guitar), Jerry Langley (bass) and James Moore (drums).
The group performs regularly throughout the Northeast and they continue to actively
record new material.

Drums, NYC Music Scene (w/ Graham Doby) Ep044
Aaron Sefchick and Joe McMurray bring in drummer Graham Doby to discuss drums and the music scene in New York City.
Graham tells the guys about his musical journey, including playing jazz in high school and studying jazz drumming at George Mason University before moving to NYC to work as a full-time musician. Graham remembers playing at different venues in Washington, DC while he was in music school, and Joe and Graham reminisce about ear-training classes at George Mason with Dr. Anthony Maiello. The guys also contemplate the value of Berklee College of Music as it compares to other music programs/options.
Graham talks about the complexities of the NYC music scene: it's competitive nature, it's different circles of musicians (from professional jazz players to wedding bands to professional players of other genres), and it's often low-paying or pay-to-play gigs. Despite any difficulties, Graham loves being part of NYC's scene. There are great players, exciting opportunities, and cool people.
Aaron gets Graham to tell us about his experience opening for Parliament and the stories of his interactions with George Clinton.
Graham has built a recording studio in NYC to record other bands and to produce his own music. The guys ask him to explain how he manages the noise and his neighbors in an apartment building.
Aaron, Joe, and Graham discuss how to book gigs for a self-managed tour. Graham talks about his work with a non-profit group that provides music education for youth, senior citizens, and students with disabilities, which reminds Joe of Fret Buzz Episode 38 with Joe Hamm of El Sistema.
The guys talk about the business skills it takes to make a living playing music, from doing taxes to wearing multiple hats (teaching during the day and performing at night). Graham answers the burning question about how NYC musicians deal with getting show equipment to their gigs considering the obvious transportation difficulties. The answer: they often don't have to worry about it because so many venues have house drum kits and amps.
Graham tells us about his plans for the future, including recording projects, more teaching, and staying in NYC for at least five more years.

Fascinated by the music of French Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, Taiwanese-Canadian guitarist Denis Chang’s spent his formative years alongside the Gypsies of France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany, where he learned to play the style of music that is now known as Gypsy Jazz. There, he learned to understand the Romany way of life, and was completely immersed in the culture. He is one of the few gadje (non-Gypsy) to have learned Romanes, the language of the Gypsies. In concerts, he is one of the very few outside of the Gypsy community to sing rare Gypsy songs in Romanes. Audiences can expect to learn more about Gypsy culture and the meaning behind these rare songs!
In 2008, Denis had the honor of being invited to perform with the legendary Les Paul at the Iridium in New York. In 2009, he received the Entrée en Scène Award by Loto-Quebec and the Résidence Award in Quebec City at the Rideau Showcase.
In 2012, he was invited to perform with the legendary Gypsy guitarist Dorado Schmitt (one of the stars of Tony Gatlif’s film “Latcho Drom”) at the end of his US tour. Dorado then gave Denis the guitar that he used for the tour; a generous gift that he treasures to this day.
He has worked with the top performers in Gypsy Jazz, such as The Rosenberg Trio, Joscho Stephan, Gonzalo Bergara, Paulus Schäfer, Tcha Limberger, to name just a few. Other renowned musicians that he has worked with include James Carter, Mark O’Connor, Stephane Wrembel, Frank Vignola, etc.
Guitarist-Composer-Educator Az Samad has recorded with Grammy Winners Flaco Jiménez & Max Baca; graduated & taught at the prestigious Berklee College of Music; performed in the United States, Europe & Asia; and appeared on 22 CDs ranging in styles from Tex-Mex, Contemporary Jazz to solo acoustic guitar. His works have been described as “richly textured, poetic and atmospheric”.
Az has been exploring Malay jazz including the music of P. Ramlee, Jimmy Boyle and most recently Singapore’s Zubir Said. As the musical director and guitarist for A Zubir Said Tribute, Az led 5 shows at Esplanade Outdoor Theatre, Singapore with an 11-piece ensemble performing brand new arrangements he wrote.
As a film music composer, he’s collaborated with filmmakers James Lee and We Jun in their short film projects. Az composed the music to Salvaj, winner of the best short film at The 27th Malaysia Film Festival.
As an educator, Az has taught at Berklee College of Music (USA); Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut (USA); San Jose State University (USA); Northern California Music & Art Culture Center, San Francisco, CA (USA); De Anza College (USA); Culturefest in Pipestem, West Virginia (USA) ; The Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, California; Thomas Leeb’s Residential Acoustic Guitar Camp in Turracher Höhe (Austria); Guitar Concept (Hong Kong); Shanghai Street Studios (Hong Kong); Macau Strings Association (Macau); Mosaic Music Festival (Singapore); Maestro Guitars (Singapore); University of Asia and The Pacific (Philippines); Langkawi Live (Malaysia); UCSI University (Malaysia); Universiti Teknologi Mara (Malaysia); Young Choral Academy (Malaysia); Malaysian Institute of Art; Moonshine Anniversary (Malaysia); Sixstrings (Malaysia); DrumStore (Malaysia); The Guitar Store (Malaysia); Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival; Penang Island Jazz Festival (Malaysia); Penang House of Music (Malaysia); and International College of Music (Malaysia).

Global Demand, Fluctuating Commodity Prices
The United States is the leading producer of corn and soybeans worldwide. According to a study conducted by the University of Illinois, U.S. farmers will spend roughly thirty percent more this year to plant those crops. This comes as demand from countries that import food is slowing. As VOA's Kane Farabaugh reports from the Midwestern state of Illinois, U.S. farmers are bracing for an uncertain year.

I did the final recording and slideshow, too, using only images from Google Hurricane Floyd and Hurricane Irene searches.
Song Info from I'm Tore Down written by Freddie King and recorded by Eric Clapton live at Hyde Park on June 29, 1996.
Hurricane Irene info from Gales from Irene affected much of the Eastern Seaboard, extending from Florida to New England and as far inland as Pennsylvania. At least 15 states were affected. The winds, combined with soil saturation due to the extreme amounts of precipitation, uprooted countless trees and power lines along the storm's path. Roughly 7.4 million homes and businesses lost electrical power, with approximately 3.3 million still without power as of Aug. 30, three days after landfall. Coastal areas suffered extensive flood damage followings its potent storm surge, with additional freshwater flooding reported in many areas. The storm spawned scattered tornadoes, causing significant property damage as evidenced by destroyed homes. In the northeastern region, more than ten rivers measured record flood heights at their hydrographs. Rivers in at least six Northeastern states reached hundred-year flood levels, while the Christian Science Monitor described flooding in Greene County, New York, as five-hundred-year-flood conditions. Flooding in Schoharie County, New York was also reported by the National Weather Service in Albany, NY as five-hundred-year-flood conditions. Throughout its path in the contiguous United States, Irene is estimated to have caused up to $7 billion (2011 USD) in damage and at least 45 deaths, with the death toll still reportedly rising as of August 30.
PS: As of May, 2012 the cost has gone up to $15 Billion+ and the death toll is counted as 56. See:
