IRON AGE Farm:
A farm from Migration Period (c.350)
Only reconstructed farm from the prehistoric period in Norway. On the ruins of a farm from the Migration Period, which was excavated in 1967 - 68, three of the original fourhouses have been rebuilt. We are thus able to see how people may have lived 1500 years ago. In the County of Rogaland several hundred structures from similar farms have been found.

Norwegian guide lady is showing Iron Age fire-starting method using flint and a special steel. The Place is called Jernaldergården (Iron Age Farm) at Ullandhaug in Stavanger. The process may seem easy but it requires some practice. I managed to make only one spark during the same amount of time. The edge of the flint needs to be hit with the steel at a specific angle.

Borrehaugene - Viking burial mounds in Borre, Norway
Burial mound from the Merovinger Period and early Viking age at Borre in Vestfold, eastern Norway. The 17 haa (44 acres) huge field of burial barrows represented a dynasty of power, possibly the Ynglinge clan known from the Norse sagas in Heimskringla. One of the mound contained a viking ship that was reclessly unearthed in 1852. This mound is now levelled and the ship completely lost. The ship may have been comparable to the more famous Oseberg ship in size and finish. Read more about these ancient ships on my site vikingskip.com.
