Lanzarote 2019 (Canary Islands - Puerto del Carmen)
Short compilation of our stay at Puerto del Carmen on the island of Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands of Spain. We had a great week @ Luz Y Mar. We also rented a car and visited some places like Playa Blanca and the Timanfaya volcano area. I highly recommend anyone who likes to travel to visit the Canary Islands for a great holiday. The weather is fine in every season of the year and you can do some great excursions, watersports, sightseeing, dining and relaxing. For our taste, Puerto del Carmen is the best place on this island because of the awesome boulevard and it has some lovely bars and restaurants.
Background music is an instrumental of David Guetta - Say my name
Our visit was in february 2019, but you could visit the Canaries every time of the year. We only made our stay for 6 days which is a bit short but for relaxing we will definetly come back! Prices for eating and drinking are nice and the people that, work at the restaurants are very friendly. I also recommend you to visit El Churro Mexican Food at the boulevard to drink a lovely cocktail while overlooking the ocean. The port is also a great location to dine at, especially the Puerto Bahia restaurant for the best tapas, steak and Pina Colada cocktails.
The north of the island has some interesting caves to see and renting a car for a day is definetly recommended. The Timanfaya area is very impressive and it feels like you're on planet Mars. We did a short bus tour with a quick stop to shoot some pictures, absolutely fun to do.
I have been to Tenerife and Gran Canaria but Lanzarote is my favorite Island of the Canaries because of the architecture by Cesar Manrique and the romantic horizon. Houses and buildings on Lanzarote are no higher than three floors so the look and feel of the towns and villages are really Spanish and characteristic with their white and green colors. You will not find gigantic hotel blocks here. The contrast between various parts of this island is nice to see aswell.
We will definetly visit Lanzarote and Puerto del Carmen again because we had so much fun and our stay was way to short.

ABOUT PUERTO DEL CARMEN:
Puerto del Carmen is located on the south-east side of Lanzarote and is the longest established and best known resort on the island, in fact, most of Lanzarote's over 2 million visitors per year choose this town as their destination. In the 70’s there were only two hotels, the San Antonio (VIK hotels group) located at the Los Pocillos beach and Los Fariones (Grupo Fariones) situated near to the Old Town. Today, Puerto del Carmen has plenty of accommodation from apartments, impressive luxury private villas, to the newer hotels like Seaside Jameos Playa and Las Costas in Los Pocillos, Hotel Beatriz Playa or Las Gaviotas in Matagorda. The Avenida de las Playas, the main avenue, known by expats as The Strip, is accompanied by 6 km of beaches, starting from the Old Town all the way to Matagorda, close to the airport. Locals are friendly and are ready to help.
Puerto del Carmen consists of 3 main beaches:
Playa Blanca (also known as Playa Grande), this is the big beach, the best known beach in Puerto del Carmen, over a kilometre long with plenty of sunbeds, swan pedalos, water sports and a water park.
Playa Chica, this is the small beach close to the old harbour (Old Town) great for diving, scuba diving, flyboard, parascending, and jet skis for hire. Playa de los Pocillos, the widest and also over a kilometre long of golden sand with sunbeds.
Playa Matagorda, also a five star beach from which you can walk all the way to the airport, popular for plane spotting. Further on, at the end of Puerto del Carmen, you find Lanzarote’s dog friendly Guacimeta beach.
If you come to Puerto del Carmen try to be here for the best carnival in Lanzarote, a party that starts from 5pm till late, from Matagorda area making its way through the main avenue all the way to the Old Town. Puerto del Carmen also hosts another great event, known all over the world, the Lanzarote Ironman, it takes place each May, with the swimming starting at Playa Grande, in front of Linekers Bar, continuing with a bike ride around the island and finalizing with a marathon with laps from Playa Grande to Matagorda, making Lanzarote the destination for world-class athletes.

LANZAROTE COSTA TEGUISE (PUEBLO MARINERO)
Costa Teguise is a resort on the east coast of the Spanish island of Lanzarote. It’s known for its sandy beaches, like Playa de Las Cucharas, a water sports hub. Lanzarote Aquarium has many marine species, plus an underwater tunnel and touch pools. Restaurants and shops line the lively Pueblo Marinero square, partly designed by local artist César Manrique. West of town, Aquapark has water slides, pools and zip lines.
The Pueblo Marinero complex is one of the main nightlife areas in Costa Teguise. The architecture, traditionally Canarian, gives this place a special charm. Within the structure, there are shops, restaurants, pizzerias, terraces, and pubs that guarantee a dynamic range of activities all day long. The atmosphere is eminently touristic and there is a constant army of children running across the spacious patios, while the adults relax in animated conversation with a cocktail or a mug of beer in hand.
