RIVER SWIMMING | Island Brygge Harbour, Copenhagen
My first ever travel vlog using the GoPro Hero 6 had to be of my favourite sport, Swimming, in my favourite city, Copenhagen, Denmark! I've swam in many swimming pools in my life but never would i have considered diving into Copenhagen Harbour while travelling around Europe. The water is so clean and the purpose built pontoons lining the riverbank are so enticing I just couldn't resist!
The one thing I love most about Danish culture is how being healthy and active is built into the way that their cities have been designed, it isn't an afterthought at all. For example cycling in Copenhagen is so easy for residents and tourists alike as its ones of the best bike friendly cities in the world. Islands Brygge Harbour is no different to this with the ability to go river swimming every day rain or shine!

Copenhagen harbour walking tour - Nyhavn, Papirøen, Islands Brygge - April 2017
Walking tour around part of Copenhagen Harbour. Nyhavn, Papirøen, Christianshavn waterfront, Islands Brygge, Fisketorvet.

1. We start out at Nyhavn meaning New Harbour but actually quite old. Nyhavn was constructed by King Christian V from 1670 to 1673. It is stretching from Kongens Nytorv to the harbour front.
2. From Nyhavn via the new pedestrian and bicycle bridge Inderhavnsbroen ( Inner Harbour Bridge ) to Christianshavn and Papirøen.
3. Visit to Copenhagen Street Food food market on Papirøen. Papirøen means Paper Island. For several decades this island was where the Danish Press stored their paper. Now a vibrant place with food, cafés, art exhibitions and more.
4. Walk along the waterfront in Christianshavn, view to Børsen and Christiansborg (Parliament)
5. Walking further south passing the two old bridges Knippelsbro and Langebro. Knippelsbro is featured on the danish 200 kr banknotes.
6. After passing Knippelsbro we passes Langebro and comes to Islands Brygge waterfront. The well known and local singer Kim Larsen has made a song about the bridge Langebro
Islands Brygge (Iceland's Quay) is a popular area along the Copenhagen harbourfront. In the mid-20th century it was a neglected industrial and dockland area, but since 2000 it has has become a fashionable and attractive neighbourhood.
7. After Islands Brygge we pass the new pedestrian and bicycle bridge Bryggebroen to Fisketorvet ( a mall ).
Total distance 4-5 km. From Fisketorvet you can continue to Dybbølsbro S-train station ( Only on stop from Copenhagen Central Railway Station) or further to the district Vesterbro.
