Jacobs Presents the Jacksonville Convention Center
The Jacobs Team is pleased to present this video rendering of the proposed Jacksonville Convention Center; bringing a resurgence to the downtown core and continuing the responsible development as directed by the Downtown Investment Authority.
As the top-ranked proposed solution, our holistic offering includes:
A one-of-a-kind, off-balance sheet non-debt, unique funding capability requiring no City capital; all funding will come from a private funding source which is based on the City’s credit strength.
Key to our proposal is a one-of-a-kind private funding model which protects the City’s credit rating and bonding capacity through a non-debt funding structure.
An iconic Northbank design element to bridge the downtown to a vital and prosperous energetic riverfront, shipyards, and the Southbank development.
A low risk / low impact solution to fortify the downtown environment through our existing JEA resilience work for the City of Jacksonville.
Incorporation of a design that will positively impact pedestrian use and engage the river’s water edge with public space.

New South, New Violence: The History of Lynching in Jacksonville
FSCJ Professor Scott Matthews, part of the Jacksonville Community Remembrance Project, examines the history of lynching in Jacksonville during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and how the city's black and white communities responded to these acts of vigilante violence.
Prof. Matthews begins by giving the background on the project to document racial terror lynchings in Jacksonville, describes the social and economic context which gave rise to these events, and then highlights several cases of lynching and related racial violence. Cases discussed include those of John Coleman, John Morine, Bowman Cook, George Taylor, Joe Long, Lee Bragg, Ben Hart, Eugene Burnam, Edgar Phillips, Caleb McCoy, Edward Hinson, and Willie Washington.
This event, sponsored by Student Life & Leadership and co-sponsored by the LLC, was part of the College's Black History Month calendar of events and took place Monday, February 25, 2019 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in A1058 at FSCJ's Downtown Campus, located at 101 West State Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202.

5:45 mark: In his biography of Hitler, John Toland wrote: Hitler's concept of concentration camps, as well as the practicality of genocide, owed much (so he claimed) to the his studies of United States history and he often praised, to his inner circle, the efficiency of America's extermination by starvation and uneven combat of the red savages who could not be tamed by captivity.
Jacksonville, Florida
Jacksonville is the largest city in the U.S. state of Florida by population and the largest city by area in the contiguous United States. It is the county seat of Duval County, with which the city government consolidated in 1968. Consolidation gave Jacksonville its great size and placed most of its metropolitan population within the city limits; with an estimated population in 2012 of 836,507, it is the most populous city proper in Florida and the Southeast, and the 12th most populous in the United States. Jacksonville is the principal city in the Jacksonville metropolitan area, with a population of 1,345,596 in 2010.
Jacksonville is in the First Coast region of northeast Florida and is centered on the banks of the St. Johns River, about 25 miles (40 km) south of the Georgia state line and about 340 miles (550 km) north of Miami. The Jacksonville Beaches communities are along the adjacent Atlantic coast. The area was originally inhabited by the Timucua people, and in 1564 was the site of the French colony of Fort Caroline, one of the earliest European settlements in what is now the continental United States. Under British rule, settlement grew at the narrow point in the river where cattle crossed, known as Wacca Pilatka to the Seminole and Cowford to the British. A platted town was established there in 1822, a year after the United States gained Florida from Spain; it was named after Andrew Jackson, the first military governor of the Florida Territory and seventh President of the United States.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

With an estimated population of 892,062 as of 2017, Jacksonville is also the most populous city in the southeastern United States. The Jacksonville metropolitan area has a population of 1,631,488 and is the fourth largest in Florida.Jacksonville is centered on the banks of the St. Johns River in the First Coast region of northeast Florida, about 25 miles (40 km) south of the Georgia state line and 340 miles (550 km) north of Miami. Harbor improvements since the late 19th century have made Jacksonville a major military and civilian deep-water port. Its riverine location facilitates Naval Station Mayport, Naval Air Station Jacksonville, the U.S. Marine Corps Blount Island Command, and the Port of Jacksonville, Florida's third largest seaport. Jacksonville's military bases and the nearby Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay form the third largest military presence in the United States. Significant factors in the local economy include services such as banking, insurance, healthcare and logistics. As with much of Florida, tourism is important to the Jacksonville area, particularly tourism related to golf. People from Jacksonville may be called Jacksonvillians or Jaxsons (also spelled Jaxons).
