The Museo del Jade is an archaeological museum in San José, Costa Rica. It has been located in front of Plaza de la Democracia since 2014. It was founded in 1977 by Fidel Tristán Castro, the first president of the INS. The museum has an extensive collection of pre-Columbian artifacts, such as stone tables (metates), ceramics, ceremonial heads, adzes, and other decorative pieces from 500 BC to 800AD. It contains the world's largest collection of American jade. The jade room of the museum also displays translucent jade pendants, mostly purchased from private collections.

The Jade Museum is in downtown San Jose. It features Pre-Colombian artifacts, and other rotating exhibits.
I graded the museum 5 out of 10. I would have liked to have seen more down with the artifacts. Also, it's overpriced at $15.

Hey Everyone, okay, really it's the Museos del Banco Central de Costa Rica, but in Travel Books and out on the streets, it's known as the Gold Museum. It's actually a couple different places all wrapped up in one building. There's an art gallery for temporary art exhibits, another exhibit about the history of the monetary system in Costa Rica and on the bottom floor, gold, gold and more GOLD- over 20,000 troy ounces of GOLD in more than 2,000 objects. There's also a gift shop and a branch of the Costa Rican Tourist Institute's info center... but the point is.... is it ALL worth the $9.00 entrance fee? I made it to Costa Rica! So many adventures to share, but first I leave San Jose California and arrive in San Jose Costa RIca to visit the Museo de los Niños, an amazing , world-class children's discovery and natural history museum.
Gold - Costa Rica's Pre-Columbian gold artifacts.
Museo Del Oro. Costa Rica's gold museum. Located in San José, Costa Rica. Pictures of some of the gold artifacts you will see in the Pre-Columbian gold exhibit. Gold artifacts from Costa Rica and Central America. Hummingbirds, humans, bats, crocodiles, jaguars, pigs, lizards and others are represented. Ancient trade routes facilitated the movement of gold and other goods between Mexico and South America. Crossing through Costa Rica, spawning a golden age. I highly recommend a visit to the Gold Museum, and the nearby Jade Museum as well. These are pictures I took during a trip in December 2014.

Walking downtown San José, Costa Rica
San Jose is the capital city of Costa Rica. The downtown area has a walking pedestrian mall area that runs for about a 1 mile. The downtown area is the head of most of the government offices and is the main transportation hubs for commuters using public transportation. If you want to see how Costa Ricans live then this is walk is worth your time.

Parte de la gran muestra del Museo del Jade en San Jose, Costa Rica, durante la visita realizada en el City Tour por los Museos que organizó el GAM Cultural el pasado 17 de Julio 2013, De las 6.881 piezas de jade, piedras y piezas precolombinas, el Museo expone actualmente 1.355 piezas y por ello el INS tiene prevista la construcción de un nuevo edificio donde se puedan exponer todas las piezas.
Horario de atención al público:
Lunes a viernes de 8:30 a.m a 3:30pm.
Sábados de 10:00am a 2:00pm.
Entrada gratuita primer sábado de cada mes y los días miércoles (para nacionales y residentes)
