Agra Fort an ancient monument of India with description
Here is a brief description of the #Agra #Fort from my findings. When I first roam inside the Agra Fort the things that I notice was that this Fort consist of different structures and buildings like palace namely Jahangiri mahal, Abkbari Mahal and Khas mahal, the beautifully mirror design Sish Mahal, the Diwan-i-Am (Hall of public audience), Jahangir's Hauz/Tank (Jahangir's Bath), Anguri Bagh, the proper Drainage system and the View of #TajMahal from the Fort. All those which is present inside the fort is mesmerizing and at the same time it allows me to think of the Mughal period that I read in the book and I saw in Hindi movies and also the serials. It makes me feel special at the same time that I got the chance to saw all those things. So, I thought it is my duty to share my experience and the connection with the history and the facts of the Fort to my audience hence I made this video. I hope you enjoy my videos please like and share my videos and Don't forget to subscribe kindly leave your comments below Thanks.
Tomb of Shams-ud-din Iltutmish, Qutab Complex
Shams-ud-din Iltutmish was the third ruler of the Mamluk dynasty of Delhi of Turkic origin. He was a slave of Qutb-ud-din Aibak and later became his son-in-law and close lieutenant. He was the Governor of Badaun when he deposed Qutub-ud-din's successor Aram Shah and acceded to the throne of the Delhi Sultanate in 1211. He shifted Capital from Lahore to Delhi, remained the ruler until his death on May 1, 1236. Iltutmish introduced the silver tanka and the copper jital-the two basic coins of the Sultanate period, with a standard weight of 175 grains. He introduced Iqtadari system: division of empire into Iqtas, which were assigned to the nobles and officers in lieu of salary.
He built the Hauz-i-Shamsi reservoir in Mehrauli in 1230, which also has Jahaz Mahal standing on its edge, used by later Mughal Emperors. In 1231, he built Sultan Ghari the mausoleum of his eldest son, Prince Nasiru'd-Din Mahmud, which was the first Islamic Mausoleum in Delhi. His own tomb exists, within the Qutb complex in Mehrauli, Delhi.
He suppressed all internal revolts and also checked external invaders successfully. He died after falling from his horse while playing chaugan (polo). He started the construction of Qutb Minar but died before it could be completed.

Jahangiri Mahal, Red Fort , Agra
Jahangiri Mahal (Hindi: जहाँगीरी महल, Urdu: جہانگیری محل), may be the most noteworthy building inside the Agra Fort of India. The Mahal was the principal zenana (palace for women belonging to the royal household), and was used mainly by the Rajput wives of Akbar. It is a form of Islamic architecture .
The palace was built by Akbar. It is one of the earliest surviving buildings of Akbar's reign. Jahangir in his memories has clearly mentioned that the buildings were erected by his father Akbar but did not take any credit for the construction of Jahangiri palace or Mahal.[1] Mughal empress Nur Jahan used this magnificent palace as her residence until her death on 17 December 1645 .
There is a huge bowl called Hauz-i-Jahangiri that is carved out of a single piece of stone. This was used as a container for fragrant rose water.

Diwan-i-Khas/Khas Mahal: Red Fort, Delhi
Diwan-i-Khas/Khas Mahal: Red Fort, Delhi
The Diwan-i-Khas, or Hall of Private Audiences, in the Red Fort of Delhi built in 1571 was the place where the Mughal emperor Akbar received courtiers and state guests. It was also known as the Shah Mahal. It measures 90 x 67 feet. It consists of a rectangular central chamber, surrounded by a series of arches rising from marble piers. The lower parts of the piers are inlaid with floral designs, while the upper portions are painted and gilded. The four corners of the roof are surmounted by pillared chhatri. The ceiling, which was originally inlaid with silver and gold, was stripped bare by successive financial crises of the empire by the Jats or Marattas. The current ceiling was installed in 1911. The later Peacock Throne from after Nadir Shah's invasion once stood in this hall, towards the east side. Through the centre of the hall flowed the Stream of Paradise (Nahar-i-Bihisht). The building used to have red awnings, or shamianas. The interior was completely plundered following the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The throne, the carpets, and any other items went missing. The hall today is, therefore, only a shell of what it used to be.

Humayun's tomb is located at Opp. Dargh Nizamuddin and Near of old fort, Mathura Road, New Delhi. Humayun's tomb (Humayun ka Maqbara) is the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun. It was built in 1565 A.D. nine years after the death of Humayun, by his senior widow Bega Begam. There are several graves of Mughal rulers located inside the walled enclosure, the main tomb of the Emperor Humayun, which houses the graves of his wife, Hamida Begum, and also Dara Shikoh, son of the later Emperor Shah Jahan. It was the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent.
It represented a leap in Mughal architecture, and together with its accomplished Charbagh garden, typical of Persian gardens, but never seen before in India, it set a precedent for subsequent Mughal architecture. The tomb was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993.
The tomb was made on the banks of Yamuna river. It is very near to Nizamuddin Dargah, the burial place of the celebrated Sufi saint, Nizamuddin Auliya, who was much adored by the rulers of Delhi.

Nasir-ud-Din Muḥammad Shah (Persian: ناصرلدین محمد شاه) (born Roshan Akhtar(Persian: روشن اختر))(7 August 1702 – 16 April 1748) was Mughal emperor from 1719 to 1748.He was son of Khujista Akhtar, the fourth son of Bahadur Shah I. With the help of the Sayyid brothers, he ascended the throne at the young age of 17. He later got rid of them with the help of Asaf Jah I – Syed Hussain Ali Khan was murdered at Fatehpur Sikri in 1720 and Syed Hassan Ali Khan Barha was fatally poisoned in 1722.Muhammad Shah was a great patron of the arts, including musical, cultural and administrative developments. His pen-name was Sadā Rangīla (Ever Joyous)and he is often referred to as Muhammad Shah Rangila, also sometimes as Bahadur Shah Rangila after his grand father Bahadur Shah Although he was a patron of the arts, Muhammad Shah's reign was marked by rapid and irreversible decline of the Mughal Empire. The Mughal Empire was already decaying, but the invasion by Nader Shah of Persia and the subsequent sacking of Delhi, the Mughal capital, greatly accelerated the pace. The course of events not only shocked and mortified the Mughals themselves, but also other foreigners, including the British.

Agra Fort Vacation Days With Couple Traveler - India Golden Triangle Tour
Agra Fort was built in the year 1573 under the reign of Akbar – one of the greatest Mughal Emperors. It took more than 4000 workers and eight years of hardship to complete the fort. Knowing the significance of its location, Akbar built the fort to make it the main residence of the Mughals. The fort remained as the main residence of the emperors belonging to the Mughal dynasty until the year 1638. The fort houses numerous impressive structures like the Jahangir Mahal, Khas Mahal, Diwan-i-Khass, Diwan-i-Am, Machchhi Bhawan and Moti Masjid. In 1638, the capital of the Mughal dynasty was moved from Agra to Delhi, causing the Agra Fort to lose its status as the main residence of the Mughal emperors. The fort is separated from its sister monument Taj Mahal by just 2.5 kilometers. Often described as the walled city, Agra Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Today, the fort is a major tourist spot and attracts many tourists from all over the world.
Important Structures Inside the Agra Fort
• Jahangir's Hauz – This is a monolithic tank, and was built by Jahangir. The tank was initially used for bathing. It is now a part of Akbar’s Bengali Mahal.
• Shahjahani Mahal – The Shahjahani Mahal is probably one of the earliest attempts of Emperor Shah Jahan to turn a red sandstone palace into a palace of white marble.
• Babur’s Baoli (step well) – Babur built a stone step well which took care of the water needs in the ancient fort of Agra. This was probably one of the earliest modifications made to the fort.
• Nagina Masjid – Nagina Masjid is a mosque which was built by Shah Jahan. The mosque was built using white marble only and was considered a private place of worship.
• Diwan-I-Am (Hall of Public Audience) – This hall was built by Shah Jahan. Interestingly, the hall was first built using red sandstone but was later shell-plastered, giving it a look of white marble.
• Ghaznin Gate – The Ghaznin gate actually belongs to the tomb of Mahmud of Ghazni, one of the rulers of the Ghaznavid Empire. The gate was moved into the fort by the British for political reasons.
• Bengali Mahal –This palace was built by Akbar and was later modified by Shah Jahan. An interesting aspect of this palace is it is said to be housing secret buildings hidden underneath the palace.
• Akbar’s Mahal – The ruins of Akbar’s famous palace still remains in the fort. Akbar breathed his last in this very palace. The entire palace was built using red sandstone.

In this video, I have explored several monuments of Agra. We all know that Taj Mahal (one of the world’s wonders) is in Agra and many people come to the city to witness this beauty. However, the beauty of Agra city is not just limited to Taj Mahal. There’s a lot to explore in this city. Agra Fort is another monument which you must visit when you are in Agra. This fort was built in the year 1573 by the king Akbar - one of the greatest Mughal Emperors. It is said that in-total 4000 workers worked for 8 years to complete the construction of this fort. This fort was built with an idea to make it the main residence of the Mughals. The architecture of Agra Fort which is also known as Red Fort of Agra is simply brilliant. This fort houses many impressive structures inside it including Khas Mahal, Jahangir Mahal, Diwan-e-Aaam, Diwan-e-Khaas, Moti Masjid, Machchhi Bhawan and a lot more. This fort is just 2.5 kilometers away from the Taj Mahal and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

History underground: The forgotten Baolis or step-wells of Delhi!
A short film on the forgotten Baolis or step-wells of Old and New Delhi, India.
Nizamuddin Baoli:
Built in the 14th century by Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, this step well served as a water reservoir in olden days. Recently, after its 1st renovation in over 700 years it has become a popular hangout for the locals. Delhi houses numerous ancient structures including baolis or step-wells that are now a forgotten part of the city's urban sprawl. While Nizamuddin baoli still has some water in it the others have dried up or even vanished altogether. Those, which have survived the tides of time, are now waiting helplessly for restoration.
The popularity of the Nizamuddin baoli is also because of its proximity to the dargah bearing the same name. Although it is illegal and unsafe, many residents have built their houses sticking to the walls of the baoli. With air conditioners jutting out of worn-out walls it becomes more dangerous for the boys to jump in the pool.
Rajaon ki baoli:
Another magnificent baoli in the capital is the Rajaon ki baoli situated near Adam Khan's tomb in Mehrauli. Daulat Khan built this three-storied marvel in 1516 during the Lodhi reign; which showcases the brilliance of the ancient Indian architecture and engineering. With 12 pillars standing at its borders the baoli is a spectacular structure. The masons earlier used it for some time, which gave it, its name -- Rajaon ki Baoli!
What makes this baoli distinct is that its entire structure is subterranean. The outer structure is concealed and on approaching the entrance, only the top floor of the baoli is visible. Gradually, as one moves further, the lower levels come into view.
Gandhak ki baoli:
About one hundred meters south of the Adam Khan tomb lies another baoli in Mehrauli. It is Gandhak ki baoli, which owes its origin to Iltumish of the slave dynasty. The well gets its name from the sulphur: known as gandhak, in the water; which was known for its medicinal properties. Ranking as the largest in Delhi, the five-tiered Gandhak ki baoli is spread across expansively and has supplied water to the nearby areas for centuries. Also known as the diving well, it was earlier used by the locals for diving.
What was the pride of ancient rulers is now in immediate need of revival and restoration. Indian archeologists have tried to restore the water through other means but it has not been a success till now. With its fading charm it is in danger of being forgotten completely like so many other monuments.
Red fort Baoli:
Further away, the baoli of the famous Red Fort or the Laal Qilla of Delhi is lesser known. The distinct structure of the baoli has steps going down from two sides, which converge at a pit attached to the well. Unlike other step wells this one is fenced-in and locked. In comparison to the others this baoli does not have many visitors, as not many people know of its existence. Perhaps it is because this baoli is locked throughout the year but the one day when it is open to all is the 15th of August - the independence day of India.
Many say that it was built in the 14th century whereas the fort is a 17th century construction. The lonesome step well lies silently, witness to countless events of the past. Also, not many people know that the baoli was used as a prison. This is only evident when you visit the baoli as etched on stone are the names of the officers of the Indian National Army who were confined here in 1945 and 46 during the freedom movement.
Agrasen ki baoli:
In deep contrast to the silence of other baolis, Agrasen ki baoli lies amid business towers and a residential area. Although it is not certain but the credit for building this step-well goes to King Agrasen, which also gives the baoli its name. A 14th century construction, this baoli is lined on both sides with chambers and niches. The 104 steps of the well descend into the well's dried bottom, which has three levels.
Being in the middle of a residential area, this baoli has more visitors in comparison to others. 60 meters wide and 15 meters long, this baoli is also in desperate need of renovation like the others.
The ancient structures that are an integral part of our heritage need restoration and attention from us today.
