Indonesia travel : Gedung Kesenian. Jakarta's Traditional Art Building Jakarta 04
Gedung Kesenian Jakarta (Jakarta Art Building), historically known as Schouwburg Weltevreden, is a concert hall in Jakarta, Indonesia, built during the Dutch colonial period. It is close to the Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta and the Jakarta Cathedral, near Lapangan Banteng Park. It was built by English soldiers and had a capacity of 250 people.
This is the first theater in Batavia which was used for the entertainment of British soldiers (1811 to 1816). Performances were again held in the building on April 21, 1817, by groups of Dutch amateur performers. At first, lighting inside the building was done using candles and kerosene lamps. Gas light came in 1864. Electricity was first used inside the building in 1882, but gas light was still used outside until 1910.In 1951 the building was used by the Faculty of Economy and Law of Indonesia University. From 1957 to 1961, the building was used by the Indonesian National Theater Academy.
In 1968, the building was known as Bioskop Diana, Diana Theater. In 1969, an institution for the building was established under the leadership of Brigadier General Pimgadie. In 1970, the institution transformed the building into a cinema showing Chinese movies. It was known during this period as the City Theater. On September 5, 1987, it was renamed the Gedung Kesenian Jakarta, replacing the former name Gedung Kesenian Pasar Baru.

Discover Jakarta: visit to MONAS National Monument of Indonesia
The National Monument or Monumen Nasional, is a 132 m tower in the centre of Merdeka Square, Central Jakarta, symbolizing the fight for Indonesia. It is the national monument of the Republic of Indonesia, built to commemorate the struggle for Indonesian independence.
In the outer yard surrounding Monas there are reliefs of Indonesian history. The story begins in the northeastern corner and describes events during eras such as the Singhasari and Majapahit empires. The reliefs extend along the four walls showing the European colonialization of the Indonesian archipelago, various popular local uprisings, modern Indonesian organizations in the early 20th century, the Japanese occupation in World War II, the Proclamation of Independence, and post-independence developments. The reliefs were made from molded cement although several of the statues are damaged and have decayed due to weathering.

Sustainable Design for a Jakarta Supertall: Pertamina Energy Tower
The Jakarta, Indonesia, skyscraper Pertamina Energy Tower is the world’s first supertall building designed with energy as the primary consideration: the building’s placement, shape, systems, and materials are calibrated toward the goal of net-zero energy.
We arrived at this design by capitalizing on Indonesia's deep experience with geothermal energy, leveraging the surrounding campus as a resource for conserving and generating energy, and sculpting the tower itself to channel ambient wind into building-integrated wind turbines.
This animation highlights various building-integrated solutions, such as a paired approach to preventing solar thermal gain on the tower facade. The video also conveys the experience of the Pertamina Energy Tower, taking viewers inside a state-of-the-art workspace and introducing them to the 2,000-seat auditorium and mosque designed to serve the Pertamina campus.

Fatahillah Square | Kota Tua Jakarta | Old Town of Jakarta | Old Batavia
#JakartaOldTown also known as Old Batavia, or locally referred to as #KotaTuaJakarta , was the downtown area of the capital long ago. The Old Town depicts the occupation of the Dutch East India Company.
A walk through town will immerse you in streetscapes lined with buildings boasting architectural features of a bygone era and in some corners around town you’ll find what is considered among the best samples of Dutch colonial architecture in the region.
Consistent with the nostalgic aura of the old town, most of the museums in Jakarta are found within Kota Tua.
These include the Jakarta History Museum, otherwise known as the #Fatahillah Museum, after the admiral and national hero who gave Jakarta its primordial name, ‘Jayakarta’, literally ‘town of victory’.
Other museums include the Indonesian Maritime Museum, two bank museums namely Bank Mandiri and Bank Indonesia, the Wayang or Puppet Museum, and the Museum of Sculpture and Ceramic Arts Museum.
Most of these museums are former colonial buildings and restored by retaining much of their original #architectural features.
The ceramic #arts #museum for example, was a Dutch courthouse, and Fatahillah was once the town hall of Batavia. The national archive building, or Gedung Arsip Nasional, which can also be found here, was the former residence of Dutch East Indies governor general Reynier de Klerck.

National Museum of Indonesia is also recognized as Elephant Museum. It's called as Elephant Museum because there's an elephant sculpture made of bronze medal at the front park of the museum. The sculpture was a grant from King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) of Thailand who visited the museum in 1871. Around the sculpture there are cannons which position are facing the National Monument (Monas).
