I remember this hill from the childhood days when we went to Dharmasthala , taking a peak from the bus, it was so masssive. And I had decided I will go there myself. However it always been a wish I never completed since its close to home have that feeling of going there later in time. Finally time came and especially knowing that this place would look so great on Drone. We reached early morning around 7 to the base and started climbing.
Jamalabad Fort is an old hilltop fortification in Killoor road, Belthangady, Dakshina Kannada District, Karnataka, India. It is located in the Kudremukh range of hills, 8 km north of Beltangady town and 65 km from the city of Mangalore. It is also referred locally as Jamalagadda or Gadaikallu.
The fort was built by Tipu Sultan in 1794 and named after his mother, Jamalabee. He decided to build a fort there, as he was impressed by the massive granitic rock which was suitable for the construction of a strong fort. The fort was built over the ruins of an older structure.
The fort is accessible via a narrow path, with around 1876 steps to the fort that are cut out of the granite hill and lead all the way to the top.
Inside the fort, there is a tank to store rainwater. Remains of a single cannon lie at the top. Nothing much of the fortifications remain but hints of the fort wall with parapets are visible. The fort was captured by the British in 1799 during the 4th Mysore war. Legend has it that those out of favour with Tipu were hurled down the edge to their death.
Jamalabad is a trekking destination, with the climb up to the fort being classified as 'medium difficulty level' and the top of the structure offering good views of the surrounding landscape and the Kudremukh range.
At the base of the hill is a forest check post where visitors have to pay a nominal entry fee. Visitors should carry food and plenty of water since there is no potable fresh water available on top. The nearest town with any communication and medical facilities is Beltangady.
Entry to the fort is open between 6 am and 4 pm and overnight stay at the fort is prohibited. This hillock fort has one room at the top.
There is also an unmanned microwave repeater station on top of the hill.

ಇತಿಹಾಸ
ಈ ಕೋಟೆಯನ್ನು 1794 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಟಿಪ್ಪು ಸುಲ್ತಾನ್ (ರ) ರವರು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ತಾಯಿ ಜಮಾಲಾಬಿಯ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಈ ಕೋಟೆಗೆ ಇಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಗ್ರಾನೈಟ್ ಕಲ್ಲಿನಿಂದ ಬಲವಾದ ಕೋಟೆ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ಅವನು ಪ್ರಭಾವಿತನಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಕೋಟೆಯನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲು ಅವರು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿ ಕೋಟೆಯನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.
ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ತುದಿ ತಲುಪಲು 1876 ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಗುರುತುಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಈ ಕೋಟೆಗೆ ಕಿರಿದಾದ ಹಾದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಆ ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಗ್ರ್ಯಾನೈಟ್ ಕಲ್ಲಿನಿಂದ ಕತ್ತರಿಸಿ ಮೇಲಕ್ಕೆ ದಾರಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡಲಾಗಿದೆ
ಕೋಟೆ ಒಳಗೆ, ಮಳೆನೀರು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಲು ಒಂದು ಟ್ಯಾಂಕ್, ಫಿರಂಗಿ ಅವಶೇಷಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಕೋಟೆಯ ಗೋಡೆಗಳ ಸುಳಿವುಗಳು ಗೋಚರವಾಗುವಂತೆ ಕಾಣಸಿಗುತ್ತವೆ. ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಮೇಲಿರುವ ಮಾನವರಹಿತ ಮೈಕ್ರೊವೇವ್ ರಿಪೀಟರ್ ಸ್ಟೇಷನ್ ಸಹ ಇದೆ.

ಜಮಾಲಾಬಾದ್ ಒಂದು ಟ್ರೆಕ್ಕಿಂಗ್ ತಾಣವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಕೋಟೆಯ ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತಲಿನ ಭೂದೃಶ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಕುದುರೆ ಮುಖ ಬೆಟ್ಟ ಸಾಲುಗಳ ಉತ್ತಮ ವೀಕ್ಷಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡುವ ರಚನೆಯೂ ಮೇಲ್ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯ.
ಕೋಟೆಯ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ದ್ವಾರ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ 6 ರಿಂದ ಸಂಜೆ 4 ಗಂಟೆಯವರಿಗೆ ತೆರೆದಿರುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ರಾತ್ರಿಯ ತಂಗುವಿಕೆಯು ನಿಷೇಧಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

Belthangady is in the midst of western ghats ,Dakshina kannada(South Canara), Karnataka and it is famous for scenic beauty, trekking, temples etc .
One of the often visited place in belthagady is Jamalabad which is also called Jamalagadda/Gadaikallu is situated in the Kudremukha range of hills and is 8km from Belthangady. Formerly called Narasimha Gada is a trekking destination where trekking enthusiasts often visit this place. This fort was built on the gigantic granite rock by Tipu Sultan in 1794 and named after his mother Jamalabee.
Dharmasthala is the most cleanliest temple I have ever seen, which is on the banks of river Nethravathi.
