KOREAN BASEBALL SEOUL | Crazy for Americans
Spent the day at Jamsil Stadium watching Korean Baseball Seoul! Korean baseball was definitely on our list of best things to do in Seoul. We watched the Doosan Bears play the Nexen Heroes. We loved seeing the differences between American baseball and Korean baseball. We also loved the massive amount of energy coming from both teams! It was exhilarating being a part of the South Korea tradition. This was definitely one of our favorite things to do in Seoul.

Hi! We're just your average husband and wife flying around the world in business class for FREE. Without our miles and points, we never would have been able to afford this once-in-a-lifetime experience. We grew up on opposite sides of the United States in Texas and Ohio. Later in college, we met and got married in August of 2016. As poor newly weds and recent college grads, we moved to New York City to begin what we thought would be our long careers in finance. Only one year later, after accumulating over 2 million points through travel hacking, we booked round-the-world business class tickets to over 40 countries. Completely for free, using the personal travel hacks we had learned to save us $62,000. We quit our jobs, sold everything we owned, and began this once-in-a-lifetime adventure on August 27, 2018. Our hope is to entertain and enrich you every day through our daily videos, as well as share the personal travel hacks we're using to travel the world for free :) Let's be friends :) say hello sometime!

Jamsil Baseball Stadium (잠실 야구장), Korea’s first baseball stadium opened in 1982. The stadium holds about 30,000 people and is 26,331 square meters; it has one basement level, three stories high with a center-field distance of 121m, side distances of 100m. Jamsil Baseball Stadium is the home of the LG Twins and Doosan Bears in the KBO. The 1988 Summer Olympics baseball events were also hosted here.
Jamsil Baseball Stadium was renovated in 2007. The grass on the field was replaced, drains were installed, and sprinkler was upgraded to prevent heavy rain damage. After 2012 baseball season, the soil was also changed for easy maintenance and preventing injuries. All the seats were also changed except for the 3rd floor, the locker room for away team athletes and the public restrooms were also remodeled. The stadium is generally open 2 or 3 hours before a game starts. This gives fans time to stroll around the complex, visit the gift stores and grab some food and enjoy the game while eating.
Jamsil Baseball Stadium is part of the Jamsil Sports Complex, Korea's largest integrated sports center. The complex consists of the Olympic Main Stadium, Auxiliary Stadium, Jamsil Gymnasium, Jamsil Baseball Stadium, Jamsil Swimming Pool, Jamsil Inline Skating Rink and the Sports Park.
In additional to hosting the 1988 Olympics, it is also a popular venue for international sporting contests in soccer, marathon and track and field, as well as operas and music concerts.
Interesting Fact: Did you know that supermodel Miranda Kerr threw the opening ball in a game between Doosan’s Bears and SK Wyverns? It's true!

South Korea - Gangnam District, Jamsil Baseball, Noryangjin Fisheries
Walking the Gangnam District streets of K-Pop splendor, watching a Twins baseball game in the Jamsil Baseball Stadium and waking up early to watch the Noryangjin market come to life were brilliant ways to kick off our crew's week long celebration of one of our own tying the knot. We may have been there for a wedding but we were going to explore as much of Seoul, South Korea as we could. We ate, and we ate a lot, especially at the amazing foody market place in Seoul, but all that good energy was burnt walking the magical streets of Gangnam.

Watching a Korean Baseball Game in Seoul, Korea (KBO 리그 - LG 트윈스 프로야구단)
If you're a sports fans one of the coolest things to do in Seoul is watch a Korean baseball game (Yagu: 야구) at Jamsil Baseball Stadium (잠실 야구장). On maybe one of the hottest days of the summer we watched the LG Twins (LG 트윈스) versus the kt wiz (케이티 위즈). Before the game even started we were trying to cool down with huge beers and Korean snacks including squid and tteokbokki. The game itself was fantastic but it was the passion of the Korean fans cheering and chanting along with the cheerleeders that really stole the show. Every player had his very own chant. We highly recommend coming to a game!

Watching a Korean Baseball Game in Seoul, Korea (KBO 리그 - LG 트윈스 프로야구단) Travel Sports Video Transcript:
Okay so Sam is pretty pumped about today's outing. Tell us what are we doing? This is the one thing I've been looking forward to doing in Seoul more than just about anything else. We are going to a baseball game here in Samuel. A Yagu (야구) game. Yaku (야구) means baseball in Korean. We are watching the LG Twins (LG 트윈스) play today.
Alright are they any good? Actually I don't think they're having a very good season. The other team that plays here, the Doosan Bears (두산 베어스), I think are in first place. So this is kind of the lesser of the two teams that play at this stadium.
So Sam needs a baseball hat for the game.
Alright new hat to show off. Yes, I just got my LG Twins hat, another one to add to the collection. And this old one I have here is actually of the Hanwha Eagles (한화 이글스). They're a team that plays out of Daejeon (대전). And I used to teach English in Daejeon back in 2009 so way back when like seven years ago I bought this hat.
So baseball in Korea is about much more than just the sport. You come here with friends to eat chicken, drink beer, chew on some squid. You can even get dried squid. ojing-eo (오징어). So we are going to load up. We're basically going to have our dinner here before the game starts. Let's go find food.
I just ordered myself some ojingo - the squid.
Let's take a bite. Oh my gosh. That looks chewy. That is really good. I think you're supposed to eat one tentacle at a time. Probably. And then over here you can see they have even more different types of seafood products. More dried seafood. This is what you eat when you go to a Korean baseball game.
I think it is like over thirty five degrees today guys so before we even go to watch the game we're cooling off. If you look over here you can see there is a whole bunch of other people. Everyone else had the same idea. We've all got the same idea. We've got a liter of beer in hand. We've got our snacks so what we're going to do is just cool off a bit before the game starts.
And this beer was really cheap. It was three thousand five hundred Won. So ₩3500 which is roughly I would say about three US dollars. For a litre. Really good value.
For a liter of beer. Nice! Let's try this. So we've got OB Premier Pilsner. Maekju (맥주). Cheers. Cheers.
So the feast continues. Yes, our pre-game feast continues. We have got Tteokbokki (떡볶이) the Korean spicy rice cakes. Basically one of the most classic Korean street food snacks you can get. Alright, it has got basically these rice cakes, called deok (떡) which are covered in Gochujang (고추장) sauce which is the red pepper paste.
So the cool thing about the Korea Baseball Organization is that it is a fairly small league. There are only ten teams. And what is really unique about this league is that they are not named after the cities. They're named after the companies. So for example, we're watching LG Twins. LG is the company. And there is three teams based out of Seoul and the other seven teams are throughout the rest of Korea. So you have teams for example like Gwangju and Daejeon. Busan and Incheon and other places like that.
So Sam may have come for the game but I'm here for the cheerleading and the dancing. That is the only thing I'm looking forward to. Seriously impressive. Over there!
So that was hands down one of the coolest baseball games I've ever been to. It was all about the cheering and the chanting. And each player had their own song.

Korea's 1st domed baseball stadium opens in Seoul / YTN
South Korea's first domed baseball stadium opened yesterday (Tuesday) in Seoul after more than six years of construction.
Seoul Metropolitan Facilities Management Corp., under the auspices of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, will operate the new stadium, named Gocheok Sky Dome located in the capital city's western district of Guro.
However, the Dome's permanent tenant has yet to be decided.
It has a capacity of about 18,000 spectators for baseball games and up to 25,000 for concerts and other events, with an advanced type of artificial grass installed on the playing field.
Making it the second-largest baseball ground in the country after Seoul's Jamsil Stadium, it's outfield fence is 122.2 meters from home plate to straight away center, and 99 meters down the left and right field lines.

Cycling from Jamsil (잠실) Baseball Stadium to The Han (한강)
One of my favourite things to do in Korea is go to baseball. A lot. What makes it even better is Jamsil's proximity to The Han river. I'm seldom happier than than having taken in a game, hopefully a win for the LG Twins, and strolling down to the river to enjoy the view, conversation and bask in the absolute certainty that THIS is the Twins' year...
However, it became clear to me that many people don't know how close the river is-even locals. Friends thought I was 'confused' when I said I'd lead them there one day. They ended up looking silly as I delivered the goods. So, I decided to cycle down there after a game, shoot a video and show just how easy it is to relax along the river after some Korean Baseball. Head on down there-hey, maybe you'll see me!
