Jantar Mantar (Man Mahal Observatory), Varanasi
Man Mahal Observatory was originally built by Maharaja Savai Jai Singh-II of Jaipur in 1710, and later restored by the order of Maharaja Savai Madho Singh in 1911. Maharaja Jai Singh himself was a great astronomer and the founder of Jaipur city. The palace, a beautiful example of Mughal-Rajput architecture, was built on the bank of Ganga by Man Singh, the Raja of Amber and a celebrated general of the Great Mughal Emperor Akbar in around 1600AD. The palace is a magnificent building with exquisite ornate window carvings. The observatory displays huge instruments made of stone, once used to study the movement of sun, moon, star and other planetary bodies. Also known as Jantar Mantar the observatory is similar to the Jantar Mantar located in Delhi, Jaipur, Ujjain and Mathura. It is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Hi friends Welcome To My YouTube Channel V2 blogger...
About Man Mahal Ghat
Man Mahal Ghat was built in 1600 by Maharaja Man Singh of Amer along with a palace known for the magnificent building with exquisite ornate window carvings and also for an observatory on the roof. The observatory at Man Mahal Ghat was built by Savai Jai Singh II in 1710. It displays huge instruments made from stone, once used to study the movement of sun, moon, star and other planetary bodies. Jantar Mantar is the highlight of the observatory which is similar to the Jantar Mantar located in Delhi, Jaipur, Ujjain and Mathura. There is a fine stone balcony in the northern part of the Ghat. Devotees pay homage here to the lingam of Someswar, the Lord of the Moon. Dom Raja’s house is next door, with painted tigers flanking the terrace. Dom’s services are invaluable for the dead to be released from their physical bounds and so the leader of the Doms is bestowed with the honorific title of Raja or King. Man Mahal Ghat is located close to Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple and very close to Dashashwamedha Ghat at the bank of River Ganga. You can reach Man Mahal Ghat through Godowlia. Godowlia can be reached by car, auto rickshaw etc. Since no vehicles are allowed beyond Godowlia so you need to take up a 5 minute walk to reach Man Mahal Ghat. Dasaswamedt Ghat Varanasi II Indien 2013 10 18

Jantar Mantar - The Jaipur Observatory in India
The Jantar Mantar is a collection of architectural astronomical instruments, built by Sawai Jai Singh who was a Rajput king. The title of (King) and Sawai was bestowed on him by Emperor Mohammad Shah. Jai Singh II of Amber built his new capital of Jaipur between 1727 and 1734. It is also located in Ujjain and Mathura.
It is modeled after the one that he had built at the Mughal capital of Delhi. He had constructed a total of five such facilities at different locations, including the ones at Delhi and Jaipur. The Jaipur observatory is the largest and best preserved of these. It has been inscribed on the World Heritage List as an expression of the astronomical skills and cosmological concepts of the court of a scholarly prince at the end of the Mughal period. Early restoration work was undertaken under the supervision of Major Arthur Garrett, a keen amateur astronomer, during his appointment as Assistant State Engineer for the Jaipur District. The Jantar Mantar was made by Sawai Jai Singh as he was particularly interested in learning about the sky above his head.
The observatory consists of fourteen major geometric devices for measuring time, predicting eclipses, tracking stars' location as the earth orbits around the sun, ascertaining the declinations of planets, and determining the celestial altitudes and related ephemerides. Each is a fixed and 'focused' tool. The Samrat Yantra, the largest instrument, is 90 feet (27 m) high, its shadow carefully plotted to tell the time of day. Its face is angled at 27 degrees, the latitude of Jaipur. The Hindu chhatri (small cupola) on top is used as a platform for announcing eclipses and the arrival of monsoons.
Built from local stone and marble, each instrument carries an astronomical scale, generally marked on the marble inner lining. Bronze tablets, all extraordinarily accurate, were also employed. Thoroughly restored in 1901, the Jantar Mantar was declared a national monument in 1948.
An excursion through Jai Singh's Jantar is a unique experience of walking through solid geometry and encountering a collective astronomical system designed to probe the heavens.
The instruments are in most cases huge structures. The scale to which they have been built has been alleged to increase their accuracy. However, the penumbra of the sun can be as wide as 30 mm, making the 1mm increments of the Samrat Yantra sundial devoid of any practical significance. Additionally, the masons constructing the instruments had insufficient experience with construction of this scale, and subsidence of the foundations has subsequently misaligned them. The samrat yantra, for instance, which is a sundial, can be used to tell the time to an accuracy of about two seconds in Jaipur local time. The Giant Sundial, known as the Samrat Yantra (The Supreme Instrument) is the world's largest sundial, standing 27 meters tall. Its shadow moves visibly at 1 mm per second, or roughly a hand's breadth (6 cm) every minute, which can be a profound experience.
To this day, the observatory is used by astronomers, for instance to calculate the auspicious date for weddings. Students of astronomy and Vedic astrology (Jyotish) are required to take lessons at the observatory, and it can be said that the observatory is the single most representative work of Vedic thought that still survives, apart from the scriptures.

JANTAR MANTAR जन्तर मन्तर (खगोलशास्त्र प्रयोगशालाए )
Astronomy laboratory in India's 5 cities Jaipur, Delhi, Varanasi, Ujjain, Mathura by former king of Jaipur maharaja Sawai Jai Singh
Jantar Mantar-Delhi, Tourist place of India|جاتور منتر دهلی، د هند سیاحت luogo turistico dell'India
The Jantar Mantar is located in the modern city of New Delhi. It consists of 13 architectural astronomy instruments. The site is one of five built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur, from 1724 onwards, as he was given by Mughal emperor Muhammad Shah the task of revising the calendar and astronomical tables.
The name of this noteworthy astronomical observatory, Jantar Mantar means ‘instrument for calculation’. For being a reputed astronomer, Jai Singh was commissioned by Emperor Muhammad Shah, to correct the astronomical tables and to confirm the data that was available on the planetary positions.
Some of these purposes nowadays would be classified as astrology. Maharaja Jai Singh II built five Jantar Mantars in India, located at Delhi, Jaipur, Varanasi, Ujjain and Mathura.
The Jayaprakash consists of hollowed out hemispheres with markings on their concave surfaces. Cross Wires stretched between points on their rim. From inside the Ram, an observer could align the position of a star with various markings or a window’s edge . Jantar Mantar of New Delhi was built with a view to help the practicing astronomers in observing the movements of the Sun, Moon and all other planets. The relevance of this science would then be introduced to the general public. There are four distinct instruments within the observatory of Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The Samrat Yantra, is the huge sundial meant to measure accurate time of the day within half a second. A striking yellow structure on the right side stands 70 feet high, 114 feet long and 10 feet thick. The Samrat Yantra, or Supreme Instrument, is a giant triangle that is basically an equal hour sundial. It is 70 feet high, 114 feet long at the base, and 10 feet thick. It has a 128-foot-long (39 m) hypotenuse that is parallel to the Earth’s axis and points toward the North Pole. On either side of the triangle is a quadrant with graduations indicating hours, minutes, and seconds. At the time of the Samrat Yantra construction, sundials already existed, but the Samrat Yantra turned the basic sundial into a precision tool for measuring declination and other related coordinates of various heavenly bodies.
Jai Prakash is an instrument designed by Sawai Jai Singh himself. The imagination consists of hollowed out hemispheres with markings on their concave surfaces which together ascertain the position of the sun and other heavenly bodies.
Mishra Yantra is the only observatory that was not invented by Sawai Jai Singh II. The two pillars on the southwest of Misra Yantra determine the longest and the shortest days in the year.
Fascinatingly, one pillar overshadows the other in December while in June; it does not cast any shadow at all. Ram Yantra consists of two large buildings open to the sky. This yantra is used for measuring the altitude of stars. All these instruments are used for various astronomical calculations.
Jantar Mantar of Delhi till date is used by modern day scholars to ascertain the determine position of astral bodies in our universe.
