It was a historic day for Indian athletics on Monday as Krishna Poonia clinched the gold in the women's discus throw event at the Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010. Krishna won the gold with a throw of 61.51 meters while Harwant got the silver with 60.16m. The bronze went to Seema with a throw of 58.46m.
India won all three medals, it was an historic moment @ CWG 2010 for India. It was the first GOLD after 1958 in this history of Indian ATHLETICS. Entire crowd approx 40,000 people were standing and singing MA TUJHE SALAM................

The main stadium has two outer basket-like supporting columned structures carrying not only the compression rings but also the complete ramp system for access and evacuation. Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is situated near the Central Government Offices (C.G.O.) Complex in the Lodhi Road area. It’s an all-purpose sports complex and has hosted many sports events.
There are government offices near the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. On the right side of the stadium, there are buildings of National Dope Testing Laboratory, National Institute of Smart Government, MTNL building, Soochna Bhawan, National Thermal Power Corporation Limited, Rural Electrification Corporation Limited and Electronics Niketan.

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is located in Delhi, India's capital.
At this stadium, 6,600 people can sit together.
According to the seating capacity, this stadium is the fourth largest stadium in India, and the 27th largest stadium in Asia.
This stadium was built keeping in mind the international standards of the Asian Football Confederation, International Federation of association football, International Association of Athletics Federations.
This stadium was built by the Government of India in 1982 while keeping the Asian Games mediated.
In 2010, this stadium was rebuilt for the Commonwealth Games.
Indian football team uses this field for international competition and Indian Athletics.
This ground is also the home ground of the Delhi Dynamos of the Indian Super League football club.
In 1984, India and Australia played the day-night one-day match.

In terms of seating capacity, it is the third largest multipurpose stadium in India and the 51st largest in the world. The stadium houses the headquarters of the Indian Olympic Association.

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in Delhi, India, is a multipurpose sports arena hosting football and other sporting events, as well as large-scale entertainment events. It is named after the first Prime Minister of India. The all-seater facility seats 60,000 spectators, and up to 100,000 for concerts. In terms of seating capacity, it is the fourth largest multipurpose stadium in India and the 51st largest in the world. The stadium houses the headquarters of the Indian Olympic Association. The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was constructed by the Government of India to host the 9th Asian Games in 1982, following which it hosted the 1989 Asian Championships in Athletics and the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In preparation for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the stadium reduced its capacity from 78,000 to 60,000 spectators.
Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was the main venue for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. It hosted the opening and closing ceremonies as well as athletics events for the Delhi Games. The stadium underwent massive redesign and reconstruction for the biggest multi-sport event hosted by India to that date. It was opened to the general public on 27 July 2010. The stadium played host to Amnesty International's Human Rights Now! Benefit Concert on 30 September 1988. The show was headlined by Sting and Peter Gabriel, and also featured Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tracy Chapman, Youssou N'Dour, and Ravi Shankar. The project was led and managed by Mr. Ramji Lal from CPWD.
The 2010 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XIX Commonwealth Games, were held in Delhi, India, from 3 to 14 October 2010. A total of 6,081 athletes from 71 Commonwealth nations and dependencies competed in 21 sports and 272 events, making it the largest Commonwealth Games to date. It was also the largest international multi-sport event to be staged in Delhi and India, eclipsing the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982. It was the first time that the Commonwealth Games were held in India and the second time it was held in Asia after Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1998. The official mascot of the Games was Shera and the official song of the Games, Jiyo Utho Bado Jeeto, was composed by celebrated Indian musician A.R. Rahman. The internationally acclaimed opening ceremony improved the image of the Games, and dispelled negative notions surrounding them, with many observers remarking that they began on an apprehensive note, but was an exceptional experience with a largely positive ending. The final medal tally was led by Australia. The host nation India had its best performance ever to finish second.
The initial total budget estimated by the Indian Olympic Association in 2003 for hosting the Games was INR1, 620 crore (US$294.84 million). In 2010, however, the official total budget soon escalated to an estimated INR11, 500 crore (US$2.09 billion), a figure which excluded non-sports-related infrastructure development. Business Today magazine estimated that the Games cost INR60, 000 crore (US$10.92 billion). The 2010 Commonwealth Games are reportedly the most expensive Commonwealth Games ever. A four-lane flyway, 2.2 km stretch from Lodhi Road to trans-Yamuna, linking the Games Village to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was constructed which reduced the travelling time between the village and the Stadium to six minutes. To facilitate hassle-free sightseeing in Delhi, Delhi Tourism undertook the launch of India's very first Hop On Hop Off bus known as HOHO DELHI, modelled on popular concept of transport facilities in Western countries. The bus, which is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies like digital video screens and GPS systems, also had trained guides who were responsible for giving information about the sites.

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in New Delhi which is capable of accommodating up to 60,000 per event. Not be confused with the other stadiums named after Jawaharlal Nehru, this one is home to the Delhi Dynamos F.C.
With a capacity of 60,000 for sporting events and slightly over 100,000 for concerts, Jawaharlal Nehru is the fourth largest stadium in India. Multi-purpose by design, the pitch is oval shaped in order to accommodate the three most popular sports in India: Cricket, Athletics and Football.
Constructed to host the 9th edition of the Asian Games, the stadium first opened in 1982 with an initial capacity of 78,000 but has since been reduced in line with modern health and safety regulations.
The most notable renovation to occur in recent times came in preparation of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. As the main venue of the games, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium underwent a complete redesign, and was heavily renovated with a new roof similar to London’s Olympic Stadium.
Named after India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, the stadium shares its name with two other home grounds of the Indian Super League belonging to Chennaiyin and Kerala Blasters FC.
Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium hasn’t been favoured as a cricket ground since the early 1990s, and these days is more likely to be used to host football matches. Delhi Dynamos F.C moved into the ground in 2014, and it continues to be used in rotation as one of the home venues for the Indian National Team.

The complex also houses a multipurpose indoor stadium with a seating capacity of 8,000 which hosts volleyball, basketball, table tennis games. The stadium is also used for functions and concerts. The stadium is named after Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister. The stadium earlier hosted cricket Test Matches between 1956 and 1965.[
The stadium is located at Sydenhams Road, Park Town behind the Chennai Central suburban railway station and Ripon Building. Tamil Nadu football team which plays in Santosh Trophy and Chennaiyin FC, the Indian Super League team representing Chennai use the stadium as their home ground.
