This video was recorded on December 7, 2012.
The Surf Club, and adjoining condo units sustained severe damage, and will most likely be torn down. Ortley Beach in general was devastated and overcome by the ocean surge caused by Hurricane Sandy. From the beach to the bay, very few homes escaped the wrath of Sandy.

Best Moment of my Life
Kelly Slater appears Live at the Joey Harrison's Surf Club in Ortley Beach, NJ as a stop on his his Letting Go tour in 2005.
Kelly has always been my hero as a little girl... I can't believe my girl Coll got him to look over here and pick my question. :) Since I studied broadcast journalism in college, I tried to be professional as possible while I was panicking inside. There were thousands of questions I should've referred to about his surfing career, his 11 world championships, but I already knew all those details... Come on, I read the book.
So I decided to focus on what REALLY intrigued a 20 year old girl like me... Why does this guy always date brainless bimbos with hot bods??? So I blurted....
Hi, I've been following your career since you were Jimmy Slade in Baywatch, and I have always wondered since then, What do you look for in a girl?... besides looks?!
And the crowd hissed, groaned and ooooooohed like I just dissed my idol. I guess technically I did, but hey! I'm a Jersey girl through and through what can I say? Standing there blushing and grinning like a goon he answered me....
Roll tape.......................................................................................................................................
Wow! I wasn't expecting that one! Or maybe I was all along and that's what I was trying to prove in the first place... His answer refers to LOOKS! Man, at very least I was hoping for a sense of humor reference.
High Tide (1987) – Trailer – SFF 19
The 66th Sydney Film Festival – 5-16 June 2019
Eight years after the trailblazing My Brilliant Career, Gillian Armstrong and Judy Davis collaborated once again on High Tide. The setting is Eden on the NSW South Coast where Lilli (Davis), a back-up singer for Elvis imitator Frankie J Holden, becomes stranded with a broken-down car and little cash. Coincidentally, Ally (Claudia Karvan), the daughter she abandoned years earlier, is living with her grandmother, Bet (Jan Adele) in the local caravan park. Mother and daughter meet, while the grandmother agonises that the child will be exposed to emotional distress. The screenplay by Laura Jones avoids any hint of cheap sentimentality – instead this is a raw and deeply felt movie in which the fractured relationships are painfully real. Colin Friels makes a strong impression in a key supporting role, but it’s the links between the three women that make the film unforgettable. The bleak, wintry seaside setting is exquisitely photographed by Russell Boyd. Judy Davis won the 1987 AFI Best Actress Award for this role.

Ortley Beach Water Tower Ordeal
The town of Ortley Beach, New Jersey is distraught over their newly renovated water tower. The water tower used to be embedded with the town's name Ortley Beach and show two dolphins, one on either side of the logo. However, after Superstorm Sandy, New Jersey American Water only replaced one of the dolphins and put their New Jersey American Water label on the other side instead.
There are 47 waterfront properties in Ortley Beach that have still not been rebuilt after the storm and residents are angry because members of the town look to the water tower as a sense of normalcy. In fact, there was a competition back in 1992 to design a logo for the town's water tower. Gregg Gordijin, an Ortley Beach resident, won the contest and designed the dolphin logo that has represented Ortley Beach for the last 20 years.
Ortley Beach - It Has to Start Somewhere
Chip Merlin speaks about why it has to start somewhere during the Save the Surf Club and Restore the Shore rally in Ortley Beach, New Jersey (June 1, 2013).
In most communities and states, its got to start somewhere. Don't let a hurricane wash away your dreams. Don't give up, you have rights. Most people just look to be treated fairly with justice. You have the right to get together and to a show a resolve so that the politicians in Washington, DC will hear you. Also, the media will be able to see it as a united community.
