We recently visited to Jog Falls.
We took a train to Honnavar from Madgaon (#Goa Vlog will come soon). This vlog is about reaching to Jog Falls from #Honnavar by KSRTC Bus and visiting the majestic Jog falls.
Travelling by #KSRTC Bus is the cheapest and convenient option for Jog Falls.
During our research about reaching to Jog Falls, many people were suggesting to take taxi, which will cost around 2000 rs. But few people were telling that buses are available but not frequent.
So we decided to go there and take decision as per situation.
And What, Finally we got Bus for Jog Falls easily and this trip to #JOG was very budget.

Jog Falls in Shimoga, Karnataka is the highest water fall of South India and the Second Highest plunge waterfall in India.
Four cascades, known as Raja, Rani, Rover and Rocket merge to form the huge waterfall on the Sharavathi River. The falls are locally known as Geruoppe Falls, Gersoppa Falls and Jogada Gundi.

Currently with the latest update Kunchikal Falls of Karnataka the Highest Waterfalls in India and also the second biggest waterfall in Asia, located in Agumbe which receives heavy rainfall and one of the wettest place in South India.
The Kunchikal falls is the highest waterfalls in India and second highest in Asia. The tallest waterfall of India with a height of 1,493 ft is located near Agumbe in Shimoga district of Karnataka. Agumbe valley is among the places in India that receive very heavy rainfall and it has the only permanent rain forest research station in India.
The India’s biggest waterfall is formed by the Varahi river and lies in the Western Ghats. The Ghats is well famous for its Giant Indian squirrel, Indian bullfrog and other unique birds, rare reptiles and bizarre wild animals.
The Nohkalikai falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in India. It is located near Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on Earth in East Khasi Hills district Meghalaya. The 3rd highest waterfalls in India with a height of 1,120 ft. Cherrapunji is very famous for Hills, rainfall, living bridges and oranges.The other highest and popular waterfalls in Meghalaya are Nohsngithiang falls and Kynrem falls, These are also counted in top 10 highest water falls in India.

After a long wait,finally my plan to visit the majestic Jog falls was fulfilled.I had read about the falls in my school days but that was text book knowledge,after reading and seeing pictures and videos of the falls it became a must visit site for me.
Jog Falls is created by the Sharavathi Riverdropping 830 ft, making it the second-highest plunge waterfall in India after the Nohkalikai Falls with a drop of 1100 ft in Meghalaya.
Sharavathi, a river which rises at Ambutirtha, next to Nonabur, in the Thirthahalli taluk and takes the northwesterly course by Fatte petta, receives the Haridravati on the right below Pattaguppe and the Yenne Hole on the left above Barangi. On arriving at the frontier it bends to the west, precipitates itself down the Falls of Gersoppa, and passes that village (properly Geru-Sappe), which is some 29 kilometres (18 mi) distant, discharging into the sea at Honnavar in Uttara Kannada.
The Sharavati, flowing over a very rocky bed about 250 yards (230 m) wide, here reaches a tremendous chasm, 290 m (960 ft) deep, and the water comes down in four distinct falls. The Raja Fall pours in one unbroken column sheer to the depth of 830 ft (250 m). Halfway down it is encountered by the Roarer, another fall, which precipitates itself into a vast cup and then rushes violently downwards at an angle of forty-five degrees to meet the Raja. A third fall, the Rocket, shoots downwards in a series of jets; while the fourth, the Rani, moves quietly over the mountainside in a sheet of foam. The Tourism Department has built steps from the viewpoint to the bottom of the hill where the waterfall can be seen at the opposite side. There are approximately 1400 steps built to reach the bottom of the hill.

The power station has been operational since 1948, and is of 120 MW capacity, one of the largest hydroelectric stations in India at that time and a small source of electric power for Karnataka now. The power station was previously named Krishna Rajendra hydro-electric project, after the King of Mysore at that time. The name was later changed to Mahatma Gandhi hydro-electric Project. It was served by Hirebhaskara dam until 1960. After 1960, due to the ideas of Sir M. Visvesvarayya, Linganmakki Dam is being used for power generation.

Jog Falls are among the ten highest waterfalls in India, located in Shimoga District of Karnataka state. Created by Sharavathi River falling from a height of 253 meters (829 ft), Jog Falls is one of the major attractions in Karnataka tourism. It is also called by alternative names of Gerusoppe falls, Gersoppa Falls and Jogada Gundi.
River Sharavathi splits up into four different tracks which are named in accordance with their perceived trajectories. Going from left to right respectively in the picture, the names and the reasons for naming are:
- Raja (King): Named so because of its apparently 'dignified' and 'serene' fall.
- Roarer: This stream appears out of a mass of rocks, making a tremendous amount of noise.
- Rocket: Consists of a large volume of water streaming out of a small opening at a very high speed.
- Rani (Queen), also called Lady: The stream has a winding, twisting trajectory, said to resemble the movements of a female dancer.
Associated with the waterfall is the nearby Linganmakki Dam across river Sharavathi, and the hydro-electric power station that it serves. The power station has been operational since 1949, and is, at 1200 MW capacity, one of the largest hydro-electric stations in India and a significant source of electric power for Karnataka. Jog falls is the second highest waterfall in India.The first of these falls is known as the 'Raja' - the grandest, an unbroken sheet of water, the Raja plunges into the vapor shrouded poll 900 feet below. A few 100 feet way down, with a thunderous gush, Raja is joined by 'Roarer'. Leaping down with great speed in a series of cascades in the 'Rocket'. And gliding away in a feminine grace ,'Rani'. The effect is greatly heightened by the wild and beautiful region around which is covered with a wealth of luxuriant vegetation.

It is located in Shimoga and Uttara Kannada district border.

The best time to visit the Jog is in winter when the sky is clear of the mist. The place is well connected by rail and road from Shimoga city and number of government & private buses ply between Shimoga and Jog Falls.
August-December is considered the season of best flow and the best time to visit. Jog is situated 105 km from Shimoga, 16 km from Talguppa being the nearest railway station, 30 Km away from Sagara, and 379 km away from Bangalore.
