Hiking Oregon - John Dellenback Dunes Trail - Oregon Dunes
This video describes the John Dellenback Dunes Trail as we found it in March of 2015. We hiked about 2 1/2 miles across the dune but didn't quite make it to the ocean as the trail was about six inches underwater in many places and the woods so thick you couldn't bushwhack off trail to a drier route. The dunes are very interesting and a fun place to hike.
JOHN DELLENBACK OREGON DUNES HIKE 1
John Dullenback Trail heading towards the coast. Off trail a bit but still within the boundaries. This is a really rarely used destination even on labor day i was the only car in the lot. Most of the visitors are riding their atv's so you will still have this place to yourself. This is a vast expanse of sand and great views. I would highly recommend this for you next visit to Oregon.
Oregon Dunes Hike
In this video, I show some of the most interesting parts of the Oregon Dunes area by walking the John Dellenback Dunes Trail. Maps and more information are available at the link below:
The John Dellenback Dunes Trail is located about 20 minutes north of North Bend, OR on Highway 101. Since it is a US Forest Service trail, a $5 daily use fee is required to park in the trailhead parking lot.
The trail has a section that is 2.7 miles long and leads to the Pacific Ocean. There is a smaller section of trail, which is a short loop. From forests to giant sand dunes, to a tunnel through the underbrush, this trail offers a huge variety in a short length.
Hiking through the giant dunes feels like you are in the Sahara Desert or on another planet. It is not a challenging hike, but it can be difficult to get your bearings if you leave the trail to climb the dunes.
Oregon Coast Trail Thru Hike 09 - Oregon Dunes State Park
This is an OCT thru hike video made while hiking the northern part of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The Oregon Dunes are cut in half by the Umpqua River requiring you to either ferry across or to hike into Reedsport before coming back out to the coast.
This is from my Oregon Coast Trail Thru Hike which runs along Oregon's coast from the Washington border at the Columbia River to the California border south of Brookings following Route 101 when it isn't possible to walk along the beach itself.
