Food, TV series, art pieces... it's this soft power that can cross borders and spread influence around the world.
Not only are cultural contents key to diplomacy, they are the new growth engine for the Korean economy... stresses President Park Geun-hye.
Our top office correspondent Song Ji-sun takes us to the K-Style Hub in the Culture Creation Venture Complex in Seoul... where the Korean leader enjoyed various activities herself... along with arguably the most popular Korean actor overseas these days. Take a look.
Foreign tourists interested in trying their hand at cooking Korean food can now do so at a special center in downtown Seoul.
Located in the capital's creative culture complex,... tourists can taste and experience the culture of Hansik at the so-called K-Style Hub.
Actor Song Joong-ki... who starred in a recent TV drama that was exported to over 30-countries accompanied President Park on a tour of the newly launched hallyu center, as a goodwill ambassador for tourism.
I think by trying to make hansik or Korean food themselves, people will become interested in hansik on a different a level.
It's a more memorable experience as well.
The building... originally home to cultural startups, also functions as a platform for exporting contents born here -- and tourists can buy locally-made cultural goods at an art market and get all the tourist information they need.
Attending the opening, President Park Geun-hye said everyone should be able to experience and enjoy culture and arts... and that Korea should realize a creative economy by focusing on its own traditional assets.
Culture will provide the breakthrough. We must merge industries with culture to create a virtuous cycle of economy.
The president reiterated that culture will drive future growth... adding that everyone should be proud of their Korean heritage, especially the traditional values... and foster those assets into growth engines.

Welcome to Seoul, the capital of South Korea. Start your adventure at the K-Style Hub,
a state-of-the-art visitor centre where South Korea’s past, present and future converge.
At the head of Gwanghwamun Square sits the statue of Sejong the Great, whose reign oversaw a golden age of literature,
science and technology. The great leader sits before the grandest of Seoul’s five royal palaces, Gyeongbokgung, the Palace of Shining Happiness.
A short bus or subway ride to the east, are the adjoining palaces of Changdeokgung and Changgyeongung, while just to the south at Deoksugung Palace,
see the changing of the guard which takes place three times each day.
Just to the west, is the last of Seoul’s great palaces, Gyeonghuigung, a royal refuge in times of unrest.
After exploring Seoul’s temple complexes, see how ordinary Koreans once lived at the Namsangol Hanok Village.
Then explore the Korea Furniture Museum where over 2000 exquisite items of furniture are displayed within ten traditional houses.
The story of Korean craftsmanship continues at the National Museum of Korea, which houses national treasures such as the Ten Story Pagoda.
Close to Seoul’s great South Gate is Namdaemun Market, where locals have been bargaining hard for over 600 years. Looking for some Gangnam style?
Head just upriver to Samseong-dong, the Beverly Hills of Seoul.Spend a few hours in the wooded surrounds of the Bongeunsa Buddhist Temple,
a peaceful antidote to the fierce pace of Seoul’s shopping. Then hike to the peak of Namsan, and take in the sweeping views from Seoul’s iconic tower.
When the sun gets low, join locals on the banks of the Han River to see the Banpo Bridge

Experiencing Korean cuisine with masters in K-Style Hub
명인과 함께하는 한식체험
Known for its well-balanced ingredients and nutrition value, Korean food is gaining more and more popularity worldwide.
But it was no overnight success.
For our culture spotlight tonight, Lee Ji-won zooms in on K-Style hub, one of the various efforts made to build on the current popularity and better promote Korean cuisine.
The sweet smell of Korean rice cake, or tteok, is enticing enough to stop passersby in their tracks. The delicious aroma comes from a small booth, where colorful tteok featuring traditional patterns are offered by amiable ladies dressed in traditional Korean attire.
We were passing by and we decided to try this rice cake. It's really tasty and I like it.
The booth is part of a free tasting event organized by the Korean Food Foundation which started last week. But the event is a treat not only to the palate, but also to the eyes, as visitors can also watch rice cake masters display their skills.
We not only wish to share Korean snacks with people, but give them the chance to know more about Korean food culture by experiencing the process and learning from the masters.
But in addition to giving people a taste of the sweet, chewy snack, organizers are also hoping to draw people into the K-Style Hub
where people can learn more about tteok and other kinds of Korean food.
The K-Style Hub has been promoting Korean cuisine, or hansik, in a variety of events and programs, such as the Korean Food Exhibition Hall. From different spices and condiments to various staple dishes that best represent Korea's traditional cuisine,... the exhibition introduces to visitors the unique culture of hansik, one that seeks harmony of dishes and ingredients at the dining table, all while keeping balance in terms of nutrition.
I like Korean food and there's a lot of it in China. But through this exhibition, I was able to learn so much more about it... such as the basic ingredients.
Onggi, or Korean earthenware, is also showcased at the hall. Korea's traditional food containers, which use the energy of the sun and soil, has been highly praised worldwide, as demonstrated at the Milano Expo last year by utilizing state-of-the-art graphic technology.
Another exciting learning experience is the Cook-N-Dine program. Visitors get to learn how to cook Korean food and, of course, enjoy the dishes they make, providing the backdrop of unforgettable memories.
It was very mesmerizing.. actually seeing the food being made in front of me and actually eating what I cooked. And having a star-chef like her to teach us. It was truly an honor.
Those who decide to participate in this event, such as these exchange students from Korea University's International Summer Campus, get to make staple dishes such as bulgogi, or Korean marinated beef, and jeon, or Korean pancakes.
It's very much healthier than Thai food, with so many vegetables on the menu.
Since it opened in April this year, the K-Style Hub is aiming at becoming a one-stop service in learning about Korean dishes and cuisine, as well as Korean culture overall.
We cannot solely promote Korean food, without providing visitors the basic culture and background of our country. We need to put in the cultural aspect along with K-cuisine for our food to be further known and recognized around the world.
Yun hopes that through the efforts of the government and individuals, more people around the world get to experience and enjoy the outstanding benefits and aspects that Korean food and culture have to offer.

K-Style Hub:
