Hawai'i Aloha | Song Across Hawai'i | Playing For Change Collaboration
Hawai’i Aloha features dozens of Hawai‘i’s top artists across many genres, and over 1,000 youth from 10 Hawaiian charter schools in one epic song. Recorded live across 27 locations, this is Hawaiiʻs most widely known song, used to close important gatherings of all sizes. It is a song of unity and Aloha ‘Aina (Aloha for one’s birthplace, land and home).
About this collaboration: Mana Maoli, a Hawaiian nonprofit, teamed up with Playing For Change and 4 Miles as part of their Mana Mele Project, which features a solar mobile studio and a Music & Multimedia Academy. Alongside the youth - on campus, in real-world settings, and in this video, is the Mana Mele Collective - over 200 artists, engineers, and filmmakers who donate their time and talents to mentorships, recordings, and concerts in support of these schools. We hope you enjoy watching this collaborative effort as much as we enjoyed creating it!

Maui, Luaus - Tom Barefoot
Visit for more information. Best Luaus in Maui - As you probably know, the only place on the planet you can truly attend a luau is in Hawaii, and arguably, the very best luaus to be found in the state are on Maui, so if your going to do a luau, you should do it right here. The other thing that I should mention at this point is that if your going to decide to book a luau on Maui, you should probably consider doing it right now or as soon as you possibly can, long before you actually arrive on vacation, because some of our very best luaus (not all but some of them) actually are sold out weeks and even months in advance. I know it seems incredible, but it is the absolute truth. Even if the luau is not sold out, the sooner we make a booking for you the better the seating arrangement will be for you and your family when you attend. With regard to shows: years ago the only type of real entertainment we had at night were luaus and dinner cruises. Today we have some world class entertainment which holds it own by anybodys standards. Please take a look in this section at the Maui Theaters Ulalena which is a special production only to be found on Maui. Warren and Annabelles Magic Show is also an incredible favorite and if possible should not be missed.
INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAI‘I: Maui County Council – Upcountry Maui / O‘ahu Charter Amendment 1
Gladys Baisa cannot run again for Maui County Council due to term limits. The non-partisan race for her seat representing Upcountry Maui is between Kula resident Yuki Lei Sugimura, a small business owner and former aide to Senator Daniel Akaka, and Napua Greig-Nakasone, an entertainer and kumu hula who also served on the State Land Use Commission.
Greig-Nakasone and Sugimura are scheduled for this live discussion on their perspectives on Upcountry Maui issues, including: the legalization of cock fighting, metered water service, a realistic benchmark for what is referred to as “affordable” housing, and the controversial matter of jurisdiction behind the current GMO moratorium – is it federal or local?
We’ll also take a close look at one of the 20 Charter Amendments going before O‘ahu voters in November. If Amendment 1 passes, it would give the Police Commission greater authority in holding the Honolulu Police Department accountable. But does it go far enough?

Language Assessment and Proficiency Tools
Language assessment and proficiency tools are often the best gauges of language acquisition. There are a variety of tools that language projects can use, such as the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, or ACTFL. Choosing the right assessment tools and providing staff training and support in their use can be difficult. Dr. Lori Quigley is the Dean of the Esteves College of Education at Sage University in New York and has developed curricula for teaching the Seneca Language. Ku Kahakalau, is the Project Director of the Institute for Native Pacific Education & Culture or INPEACE's ANA-funded project located in Kapolei, HI.
This webinar was held live on Thurs., July 18. Provided by Kaananiau, operators of the Pacific Region Training and Technical Assistance Center, a resource of the U.S. Administration for Native Americans.
