Kadmat Island (Malayalam: കടമത്ത്), also known as Cardamom Island, is a coral island belonging to the Amindivisubgroup of islands of the Lakshadweep archipelago in India. Measuring 9.3 kilometres (5.8 mi) in length, the island has a lagoon with a width of 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) covering an area of 25 square kilometres (9.7 sq mi). The ecological feature of the island is of coral reef with seagrass, and marine turtles which nestle here. The Ministry of Environment and Forests (India) has notified the island as a marine protected area for ensuring conservation of the island's animal, plant, or other type of organism, and other resources.

Kavaratti is the capital of the Union Territoryof Lakshadweep in India. Kavaratti is a census town as well as the name of the atoll upon which the town stands. It is well known for its pristine white sand beaches and calm lagoons, which makes it a popular tourist destination.

Lakshadweep | Visiting the Paradise Island Bangaram | Travelling in India
Follow me and Joe to the paradise islands Lakshadweep. We stayed at the island Bangaram at Bangram island beach resort. This was our favorite part of India and it was just four days of living in a dream. We had the most beautiful beaches, turquoise water, snorkling experiences and really big turtles just a few metres away.
We know everyone would love Lakshadweep, we sure did! This is a great cheaper option to the Maldives that I would guess is a lot more genuine. We will miss you Lakshadweep!

ABOUT LAKSHADWEEP :
Lakshadweep, the group of 36 islands is known for its exotic and sun-kissed beaches and lush green landscape. The name Lakshadweep in Malayalam and Sanskrit means ‘a hundred thousand islands’.
India’s smallest Union Territory Lakshadweep is an archipelago consisting of 36 islands with an area of 32 sq km. It is a uni-district Union Territory and comprises of 12 atolls, three reefs, five submerged banks and ten inhabited islands. The islands have a total area of 32 sq km. The capital is Kavaratti and it is also the principal town of the UT. All Islands are 220 to 440 km away from the coastal city of Kochi in Kerala, in the emerald Arabian Sea. The natural landscapes, the sandy beaches, abundance of flora and fauna and the absence of a rushed lifestyle enhance the mystique of Lakshadweep.
The entry to Lakshadweep islands is restricted. One requires an entry permit issued by Lakshadweep Administration to visit these islands.
KADMAT :
The KADMAT Island is long and narrow. It is only 0.57 km wide at the broadest point having maximum length of 11 km. It lies between 11° 10′ and 11° 16′ N latitude and 72° 45′ and 72° 48′ E longitude, having an area of 3.20 sq km. This island is at a distance of 407 km (220 nautical mil from Kochi and located between Amini Island in the south and Chetlat Island in the north.
It has lagoon on the western side, measuring about 2 km at the broadest point with a total area of 37. sq km. The island is flat, rising 2 to 3 m in the east and 2 to 4 m in the west above the sea level. High ridge of sand runs down the western side of the island and also there is a sand accumulation on the southern part of the island, giving rise to undulations. The northern side is flat.
KADMATH is 8 Kms long and 550 metres wide at the broadest point. In addition to the beautiful shallow lagoon on the west that forms an ideal spot for water sports, there is a narrow lagoon on the east. The best attractions are the long sandy beaches and small sand banks on the southern tip for sun baths. Kadmath has been identified for staying tourists with its tourist huts aesthetically situated in the coconut palm groves in the beaches facing the lagoon. The place is ideal for a real holiday that brings you away from the maddening crowd, hustle and bustle of city life. You will certainly learn the art of disembarkation on the island around noon on the second day of the 6 days Marine Wealth Awareness Programme tour.
You spend 3 days enjoying sea breeze and moonlit beach. Water sports crafts like kayaks, pedal boats, sailing yachts, skiing boats and glass bottomed boats are available on hire. The scuba diving centre in the island has become an attraction for water-sport enthusiasts.
CLIMATE :
The climate of Kadmat is similar to the climatic conditions of Kerala. March to May is the hottest period of the year. The temperature ranges from 25oC to 35oC and humidity ranging from 70 -76 per cent for most of the year. The average rainfall received is 1600 mm a year. Monsoon prevails here from 15th May to 15th September. The monsoon period raises temperature to the mercury level between 27- 30 degrees. During the monsoon time, boats are not allowed outside the lagoon because of the violent sea. The presence of the reef maintains calm at the lagoon.

MV CORALS was ceremonially handed over by Colombo Dockyard PLC to Union Territories of Lakshadweep Administration on 28th October 2014 at the auspicious time 0952 am. The Owner was represented by Mr. Rajiv Ranjan Singh IPS Director (Ports, Shipping & Aviation)/ Managing Director of Lakshadweep Development Corporation and officially took over the Vessel. Mr. Naveen Kurian Marine Superintendent of Lakshadweep Development Corporation accompanied the Director at the event.
Mr. Ranil Wijegunawardena Managing Director/ CEO, Dr. Toru Takehara Chairman, Mr. Y. Kijima Director and the management staff of Colombo Dockyard, Mr. Ajith Seneviratne Director General of Merchant Shipping, Mr. DVD Prasad Rao representing Indian Register of Shipping, Mr. Ajith Wijesinghe representing Lloyds Register of Shipping, Mr. Kartik Pande and Dr. M. Sivaguru representing the Indian High Commission also participated at the event.
This is to date the biggest vessel (Size wise) to be constructed in Sri Lanka with a LOA of 99.00 Meters and a Beam of 17.00 Meters.
This Vessel has been designed for the carriage of Passengers and general cargo, between the Mainland and Lakshadweep Islands and interisland routes. Once this vessel gets in to operation, it will ease the congestion and will provide uninterrupted service for passengers and freight from Cochin to Lakshadweep islands for a journey which generally takes around 20 hours.
