Kailua Sunday Market (Oahu, Hawaii)
Every Sunday (weather permitting) this market is held in the elementry school parking lot. The prices are about average, and there are some interesting (unique things). I normally go when I'm hungry, which means I just want a sandwich.... which, they don't seem to have.
Paul Izak is playing the music under the tent. He's there most Sundays. The amps are solar powered, so no music on cloudy days. :-)
Kailua Kona Farmers Market
Kailua Kona has a farmer's makret on Ali'i drive open Wednesday through Saturday every week. In addition to tropical Big Island fruits and vegetables and flowers, vendors sell baked goods, crafts and lots more. It is close enough to walk to from the Kailua Pier.

Kailua, Hawaii: Locals Don't Want Tourists Anymore
Kailua, Hawaii has had enough of tourists. It's white sand beaches and laid back vibe draws people from around the world, including President Barack Obama and his family, but residents are tired of tourists.
The Kailua neighborhood board has asked the state tourism agency to stop inviting guests to spend the night in the town. There's an ongoing battle between how much tourism Kailua wants and how much it should allow. An increasing number of tourists have begun to extend their stays and try to experience Kailua like a local.
The neighborhood board is bothered by the successful bed-and-breakfast business and vacation rentals that are leased out for short terms without permits. The board believes places like this take away from Kailua's limited housing supply and lead to inflated costs and natives unable to buy property.
The residents don't like having strangers all around. It doesn't feel like a neighborhood when you don't know the people there, board member Lisa Marten told AP. If there's any sort of safety issue, there's no one to ask for help because you don't know them. Two of the three houses near Marten are vacation rentals. She says that a group of 20-year-olds stayed in one of the houses and did drugs the whole time, including smoking marijuana, which she could smell.

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii - Downtown Kona (2018)
Kona is a moku or district on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi in the State of Hawaii. In the current system of administration of Hawaiʻi County, the moku of Kona is divided into North Kona District (Kona ‘Akau) and South Kona District (Kona Hema). The term Kona is sometimes used inaccurately to refer to its largest town, Kailua-Kona. Other towns in Kona include Kealakekua, Keauhou, Holualoa, Hōnaunau and Honalo.
In the Hawaiian language, kona means leeward or dry side of the island, as opposed to ko‘olau which means windward or the wet side of the island. In the times of Ancient Hawaiʻi, Kona was the name of the leeward district on each major island. In Hawai‘i, the Pacific anticyclone provides moist prevailing northeasterly winds to the Hawaiian islands, resulting in rain when the winds contact the windward landmass of the islands – the winds subsequently lose their moisture and travel on to the leeward (or kona) side of the island. When this pattern reverses, it can produce a Kona storm from the west. Kona has cognates with the same meaning in other Polynesian languages. In Tongan, the equivalent cognate would be tonga; for windward, the associated cognate would be tokelau.
Kona is the home of the world-famous Ironman World Championship Triathlon which is held each year in October in Kailua-Kona. The Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park marks the place where Captain James Cook was killed in 1779. Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park and Honokohau Settlement and Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park are in Kona.
The volcanic slopes of Hualālai and Mauna Loa in the Kona district provide an ideal microclimate for growing coffee. Kona coffee is considered one of the premium specialty coffees of the world.
In pop culture, the region served as the basis of the Beach Boys' song Kona Coast from their 1978 album M.I.U. Album.
Kona is the home of one of the main bases of the international Christian mission organization YWAM, and the University of the Nations, first founded here.

Places to see in ( Oahu - USA ) Kailua
Places to see in ( Oahu - USA ) Kailua
Kailua is a town on the east coast of the island of Oahu, in Hawaii. Long stretches of sand on Kailua Bay include Kailua Beach Park, a water sports hub, and Kalama Beach Park, with its gentle waves. Quiet Lanikai Beach overlooks the tiny, bird-rich Mokulua Islands. High above the beach, the Lanikai Pillbox Hike (Ka’iwa Ridge Trail) leads to old military bunkers. The weekly Kailua Farmers' Market sells local produce.
Kailua is a census-designated place (CDP) in Honolulu County, Hawaii, United States. It lies in the Koʻolaupoko District of the island of Oʻahu on the windward coast at Kailua Bay. It is in the judicial district and the ahupua'a named Ko'olaupoko. It is 12 miles (19 km) northeast of Honolulu – over Nu‘uanu Pali. The population was 38,635 at the 2010 census. In the Hawaiian language Kailua means two seas or two currents, a contraction of the words kai (meaning sea or sea water) and ʻelua (meaning two); it is so named because of the two lagoons in the district or the two currents which run through Kailua Bay.
Kailua is primarily a residential community, with a centralized commercial district along Kailua Road. The population was 50,000 in 1992. Places of note in Kailua include Kailua Beach Park, Lanikai Beach, Kawai Nui Marsh, Maunawili Falls, and Marine Corps Base Hawaii. It was home to Barack Obama’s winter White House and also of the famous South African businessman Ridwan Karrim.
