Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan - virtual tour
Yokohama, officially the City of Yokohama, is the second largest city in Japan by population, and most populous municipality of Japan. It is the capital city of Kanagawa Prefecture. It lies on Tokyo Bay, south of Tokyo, in the Kantō region of the main island of Honshu. It is a major commercial hub of the Greater Tokyo Area.
The historic downtown port district, location of the first foreign settlement, is known as Kannai. Next to the waterfront Yamashita Park is the museum ship, Hikawa Maru, and the Yokohama Marine Tower, the tallest inland lighthouse in the world. Further inland lies Yokohama Chinatown, the largest Chinatown in Japan and one of the largest in the world. Nearby is Yokohama Stadium, the Yokohama Silk Museum, and the Yokohama Doll Museum. The Isezakichō and Noge areas offer many colourful shops and bars that, with their restaurants and stores catering to residents from China, Thailand, South Korea, and other countries, have an increasingly international flavour.
The small but fashionable Motomachi shopping area leads up to Yamate, or The Bluff as it used to be known, a 19th/early 20th century Westerners' settlement overlooking the harbour, scattered with foreigners' mansions. A foreigners' cemetery and the Harbour View Park is in the area. Within the park are a rose garden and the Kanagawa Museum of Modern Literature.
There are various points of interest in the futuristic Minato Mirai 21 harbourside redevelopment. The highlights are the Landmark Tower which was the tallest building in Japan, Queen's Square Yokohama and the Cosmo Clock 21, which was the tallest Ferris wheel in the world when it was built in 1989 and which also doubles as the world's biggest clock.
The Shin-Yokohama district, where the Shinkansen station is located, is some distance away from the harbour area, and features the 17,000 capacity Yokohama Arena, the Shin-Yokohama Raumen Museum and Nissan Stadium, known as the International Stadium Yokohama when it was the setting for the final for the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
The city is home to the Central League baseball team, the Yokohama BayStars, and the soccer teams, Yokohama F. Marinos and Yokohama F.C.
Sankei-en is a traditional Japanese-style garden in Naka Ward. Designed by businessman Tomitaro Hara, it contains seventeen old buildings brought from all over Japan, ten of which have been declared Important National Cultural Properties.

すべて手持ち撮影、以前のGH4より安定感があるせいかブレにくく撮りやすい。また、V-Logでの撮影ですと、あとでの白飛びなど明るさや色味の調整が容易にできるのがいいですね。
Harbor View Park (Minato-no-Mieru Oka Koen)
Opened in 1962 at the former site of the British soldiers' barracks. The lookout and benches facing the ocean offer a full view of Yokohama port. A perfect place for viewing the Yokohama Bay Bridge at night. The forest on the north side was formerly a French military garrison, and is now called the French Mountain area. The land was handed over to Yokohama City in 1971. The same arch as in the central market of Paris stands in front. Also includes the British House, the Yamate 111 Ban-Kan, the Osaragi Jiro Memorial Hall and the Kanagawa Museum of Modern Literature. Also famous for the roses that are in full bloom in the spring and autumn seasons.

Perry Memorial Hall, Kurihama, Kanagawa, Japan, A Meuseum About Commodore Perry's Trip to Japan
Perry Memorial Hall, Kurihama, Kanagawa, Japan, A Meuseum About Commodore Perry's Trip to Japan. The initial picture in this film in the Perry Memorial Hall depicts Perry's survey of Edo Bay.
Literature from Yokosuka City Tourist Guide
Survey of Edo Bay
The reason Perry's squadron chose to anchor off of the Uraga Harbor is because
until then, marine charts did not exist beyond that location. Foreign ships had
never ventured farther than Uraga because of an order of by the Edo Shogunate to
repel any foreign ships that trespassed the line stretching from Kannonzaki in
Yokosuka to Futtsu in Chiba Prefecture.
Perry felt that in order to facilitate effective negotiations he must anchor as
close to Edo as possible. The day after their arrival, he began to survey the area
near Uraga using small bateira boats. On the bow of the survey boats were white
flags, and on the stern were U.S. Navy flags. The Uraga Magistrate's Office inquired about the meaning of the white flags and were told that they were a sign of peace. Surveys were conducted every day except Sunday. On July 11, the survey boats proceeded into the waters beyond Kannonzaki and Hashirimizu, a crucial defense point for the Shogunate Government. For Perry as well, the success of the expedition depended on whether this line could be crossed or not. For this reason, Perry named the area around Hatayamazaki Point in HashirimizuPoint Rubicon,in reference to the Rubicon River, the breaking point of Caesar's victory in conquering Rome. He also named the Island of Sarushima, which was visible in the distance, Perry Island. The surveys were conducted up to a point off Haneda, with detailed reports of the depths and
conditions of the seabed.
Shunmyo Masuno: The Art and Philosophy of Zen Garden Design
Shunmyo Masuno, Japan's leading garden designer, is at once Japan's most highly acclaimed landscape architect and an 18th-generation Zen Buddhist priest, presiding over daily ceremonies at the Kenkoji Temple in Yokohama. He is celebrated for his unique ability to blend strikingly contemporary elements with the traditional design vernacular. He has worked in ultramodern urban hotels and some of Japan's most famous classic gardens. In each project, his work as a designer of landscape architecture is inseparable from his Buddhist practice. Each becomes a Zen garden, a special spiritual place where the mind dwells. His work is the subject of Mira Locher’s book, “Zen Gardens: The Complete Work of Shunmyo Masuno”.
