The Kanangra-Boyd National Park, established in 1969, is situated approximately 180 kilometres south-west of Sydney and is contiguous with the Blue Mountains National Park.
The Kanangra-Boyd National Park is one of the eight protected areas that, in 2000, was inscribed to form part of the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Greater Blue Mountains Area. The Kanangra-Boyd National Park is the most south–westerly of the eight protected areas within the World Heritage Site. The national park forms part of the Great Dividing Range.

Just 220km from Sydney, Kanangra-Boyd National Park, part of Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, feels like you’ve crossed an ocean to get there. Take in the magnificent scenery – the sheer sandstone cliff faces of Kanangra Walls or mist-wreathed Mount Cloudmaker – before walking down forest-lined trails to one of the park’s waterfalls. Keep your eyes peeled for echidnas and lyrebirds, particularly during summer.
An easy day trip from the Blue Mountains, Kanangra-Boyd also has quiet campsites among the snow gums at Boyd River if you want to get away from it all. Cyclists will want to bring their mountain bikes to explore the park’s fire trails. For the fishing enthusiasts, trout can be caught along Kowmung River and, for the adventurous, canyoning is popular during the warmer months.

Boyd River Campground - Kanangra Boyd National Park, NSW
The Boyd River camping area is set amongst the most beautiful snow gums only 7km from Kanangra lookout which is spectacular. It's also not far from the Jenolan Caves. There are drop toilets, picnic tables, firepits and lots of bushwalks to explore. There is also a great shelter shed with fireplace in case of bad weather. This area is well worth a visit.

Kanangra Walls are in the Kanangra-Boyd National Park, near the Jenolan Caves and Oberon in New South Wales. The vallies below form the catchment area for Sydney's water supply. The actual lookout has no safety railings for the public with a sheer drop of several hundred metres.

Kanangra Boyd National Park - Mt Colong Hiking Adventure
A backpacking hiking adventure to visit the remote Mount Colong in Kanangra-Boyd National Park, Australia. Starting from Kanangra Road, a happy group of 8 Sydney Bush Walkers Club ( members headed south towards the towering flat-top mesa of the basalt capped, Mount Colong. A four day trip, with massive ascents and descents every day and generally speaking, all off-track. Good map and compass navigation and route planning skills essential, along with experience in rock scrambling, carrying heavy packs, exposure to heights and unstable scree and rocky terrain. NOT a trip for the inexperienced or beginners. Good fitness and experience required.

A cinematic journey around Ben Boyd National Park, Sapphire Coast, Southern NSW. Notable features include Green Cape Lighthouse, the southern migration of Humpback Whales, City Rock, the Pinnacles, Haycock Point, Australian Fur Seals, Boyds Tower.
The park is named after the entrepreneur Ben Boyd who had a variety of interests in the far South Coast of New South Wales including whaling and farming. The park itself was established in 1971. Originally 8,900 hectares in size, it has been expanded to 10,486 hectares.
The park consists of two sections, on either side of Twofold Bay and the town of Eden. The smaller northern section is bounded on its western border by the Princes Highway.
The region is particularly windy, dry and cold, and the headlands are covered in a low ground-hugging heathland community of plants. Further inland, the heath is replaced by open eucalypt woodland, which makes up most of the park's habitat.

While camping in Kanangra-Boyd National Park I walked went for a walk along Kanangra Walls
Burragorang Lookout and the sleepy town of The Oaks, New South Wales Australia
Burragorang or Burragorang Valley is a locality in the Macarthur Region of New South Wales, Australia, in Wollondilly Shire. It is home to Lake Burragorang, which is impounded by Warragamba Dam. It is located within the Blue Mountains National Park – specifically the Nattai National Park.
In 1827, the town of Burragorang was established as a mining town and up to the 1960s was a major supplier of coal. Moreover, lead and silver had also been mined in the valley until about 1927.
With the boom of Sydney's population after World War II, Warragamba Dam was constructed between 1948 and 1960 on the Warragamba River, inundating the Burragorang Valley, creating Lake Burragorang. Consequently, the town of Burragorang and others like it in the valley were lost under water.
The area around Burragorang and Nattai had been home to numerous collieries from the 1920s to the 1990s, such as the Nattai-Bulli, Oakleigh, Wollondlly, Nattai North and Valley collieries. It is estimated 72 million tonnes of coal was mined in the Burragorang-Nattai region.
The Oaks is a town in the Macarthur Region of New South Wales, Australia in Wollondilly Shire on the south western edge of the Sydney Basin. The Oaks is located 76 kilometres (47 mi) south-west of Sydney via the Hume Highway, 13 kilometres (8 mi) west of Camden and 290m above sea-level. At the 2011 census, The Oaks and the surrounding area had a population of 2,439 people.
Despite a long-standing economic dependence upon coal mining and despite the urban development inspired by its proximity to Sydney, The Oaks has essentially remained an attractive semi-rural district.
