Colour activity house 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa
Art by Olafur ELIASSON
Music See 14 Across by Quinoline Yellow
In Colour activity house, three curved, glass walls, installed around a central outdoor lamp, form a cyclone-shaped pavilion. The pavilion draws conceptually on the subtractive colour model CMYK, with each wall consisting of glass tinted in one of three primary colours, either cyan, magenta, or yellow. Depending on the viewer’s position within the pavilion as well as his or her degree of movement, the regions of colour created by the walls mix together and produce various hues. The pavilion’s engagements with its surroundings are myriad. From within the folds of the pavilion, visitors look out onto a tinted urban environment, while externally, its glass walls present hued reflections to passers-by – both effects transforming the everyday scenery into a polychromatic cityscape. When the sun sets, the lamp at the centre illuminates the pavilion, turning the artwork into a lighthouse of colours and emphasising the spectrum of tints created by its glass walls.

Oyama Jinja Shrine ⛩, 尾山神社 Japan ????????
Oyama Shrine ⛩ is dedicated to Maeda Toshiie, the first lord of the powerful, local Maeda Clan. The shrine was constructed in 1599 by Toshiie's successor, Maeda Toshinaga on Mount Utatsu. It was later moved to its present location.
Oyama Shrine is known for its unusual gate, which was designed by a Dutch architect, using elements of European and Asian religious themes. While the first story displays a mixture of Japanese and Chinese influence, the upper stories once served as a lighthouse and feature a Dutch style, stained glass window.
The gate originally guarded the entrance to the palace of Kanazawa Castle and was only later moved to Oyama Shrine. On the shrine, grounds stands a statue of Lord Toshiie. There is also a nice strolling garden with ponds and bridges, designed to resemble harps and lutes. ????????

Sekishoinari Shrine [関所稲荷神社] Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture
Sekishoinari Shrine or 関所稲荷神社 is a small shrine located in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Although from the road it looks as though it has seen better days it has clearly been well kept and is regularly visited.
Unfortunately I do not have any specific information regarding this shrine. More information will be posted when/if it becomes available.

Oyama Shinto Shrine
The Oyama Shrine was established in 1599 in Utatsuyama, east of Kanazawa. It was moved to its present location in1873 and renamed to Oyama-jinja. The main gate was constructed in 1875. This gate is a peculiar mix of traditional Japanese, Chinese, and European religious architectural elements. The third floor is particularly famous for its Dutch stained-glass windows. It is said that the third floor was also used as a lighthouse.

PHENOMENAL Pools From Around The World
There is nothing better than to hop into a sparkling blue swimming pool on an exceptionally hot day, but if you were cooling off in any of these pools on our list today, well suffice to say, you’d have a lot of people pretty envious of you.

14 - Water Baby....
The Umaid Bhawan Palace Zodiac Pool in India was completed in 1943. This palace is actually a private residence which has 347 rooms! Over the course of time, parts of the palace were converted into a hotel where guests were treated like royalty – at a price of course. This pool is located underground, underneath the palace and is covered with gold tiles and the 12 zodiac signs painted on the bottom of the pool. The whole experience is rather surreal.
13 - In deep water…
This beautiful cave pool is situated in Santorini, Greece, and is located inside, well, a cave of course. In Santorini, there are a number of amazing cave pools but many of them are part of a hotel that will charge you a fortune to spend a night there. Granted, it’s a once in a life-time visit, so if you’re able to – I say book a night!
12 - Liquid assets…
This is The Lalu in Taiwan, and its earned the title of the longest heated swimming pool in Taiwan. You can’t imagine the area being more beautiful, but in February when the cherry blossoms start coming into full bloom, it’s exquisite.
11 - Wish you were here…
Images from the pools at the Cambrian in Switzerland look like they’re straight off a postcard.
10 - Make a splash…
It might be tricky to do so if you’re at the world's most crowded wave pool! This wave pool is found at Summerland in Tokyo, and during the summer you can barely move in there!
9 - Lay down the red carpet…
This is one of the most beautiful swimming pool’s you’ll ever see. It’s a private pool that was created by Craig Bragdy Design. It’s their business to make bespoke mosaic designs for pools, and you can see that they’re amazing at what they do. This pool looks like the bottom has been laid with Persian rugs.
8 - Living rooms are so overrated…
Here’s another private pool that just oozes eccentricity and creativeness. It’s not massive, in fact, it’s small enough to fit in a living room… wait a minute… it is a living room! This swimming pool is situated exactly where the living room used t be! If you think that’s crazy, the whole house is also kind of crazy, in an awesome kind of way!
7 - Middle of nowhere…
If you ever needed to unwind and forget your troubles, this is the perfect place to head to. This infinity pool is located in Tuscany, Italy. Be prepared to fork out a bit extra when you’re reluctant to leave and end up staying a few extra days!
6 - Starry, Starry Night…
This infinity pool comes alive at night thanks to the clever use of lighting. You can book a lounger for this pool which is home at the Jumeirah Dhevanafushi resort in the Maldives
5 - Keep Afloat…
To raise awareness of global warming, Ogilvy & Mather Mumbai, an ad agency in India, created this clever advert for HSBC. The team glued an image of New York’s skyscrapers and stuck it to the bottom of the swimming pool. They then added the water, and the desired effect was spot on – New York City submerged under water.
4 - Color my world…
Jade Mountain Resort offers guests beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea, and when you get tired of those amazing views, then you can spend some time eyeing out the 24 Infinity pools. You’ll have to ask other guests nicely though, because each pool is attached to separate rooms. Each one of them has their own unique design and colored lighting, making for the most spectacular effects!
3 - Flower Power…
This pretty pool is made up of 600,000 tiles and becomes the focus point of this swimming pool located at the Grand Wailea, in Maui – Hawaii. It’s ginormous at 5,000 square feet and no kids are allowed in it. Don’t worry kids, you have your own pool called the Wailea Canyon Activity Pool, complete with slides, waterfalls, tubing and Jacuzzis. Catch me at the kiddy pool!
2 - Just an illusion…
It’s a bit of a weird thing to witness at first, as you wonder why on earth the people are fully dressed while in a swimming pool – but it’s all an illusion. Transparent sheets of glass have been placed near the top of the pool and topped with a few inches of water. It is part of an art exhibition at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan, designed by Argentinian artist Leandro Erlich

Re-creating Miyazaki's watercolours set PART 01
This is something I wanted to do for a long time - I used the Holbein watercolour tubes I had, added some colours, mixed some and re-created the set of colours recommended by Hayao Miyazaki. This is based on the first (old) edition of the 24 colour set that was being sold in Studio Ghibli’s museum in Mitaka (some colours got discontinued by Holbein though so you can not buy it any more). I will be painting an illustration using this set in another video.
