Must visit places in Alleppey | Marari Beach Untouched Paradise | The South India Road Trip
Alleppey
The series of videos that I am sharing is our South India Coastal expedition of 14days on our Royal Enfield Classic 500, where we have covered 2500kms from East to West coast riding from Bangalore - Pondicherry - Rameswaram - Dhanuskodi - Kanyakumari - Trivandrum - Allepey - Kochi - Iritty - Bangalore.
The freedom of travelling on motorcycle, venturing with limited luggage and exploring through the most scenic places, having best meals and meeting awesome people – living a true experience our hearts always yearned for and specially the riding.
Part 4. Trivandrum to Alleppey
We started our ride to Alleppey on 29th December 2017 around 7a.m. in the morning. The highway on this stretch was really busy and to make matters worse, traffic plies both ways so please be extra cautious and ride or drive safe. We decided to take the off road and found this calm backwater while crossing through tiny villages by the coast, which were a much-needed relief and a breath of fresh air.
We reached Alleppey late in the afternoon and quickly freshened up to hunt for a place to eat. The wait for food was all worth it, we had an awesome lunch at a place called Nadan Oonu next to Stone bridge; the thali was elaborate with crispy mackerel fry and beef curry as sides and let me not forget to state that they served some awesome mussels fry, which I figured out later. We set out our exploration of this wonderful backwaters town. We visited Alappuzha beach, which was bustling and a place where the entire town flocks to spend some fun filled evenings. There is an old pier on the beach with wood and metal beams getting ruined with each wave. We went to this famous local restaurant called Halais, where they serve Kerala style and Middle Eastern dishes and we decided to take away our dinner since it was early to eat and were too tired to venture out again for the day. The food was delicious and Mutton biryani is highly recommended.
We started our day 2 early and walked towards the dock to hire a boat and got a fair bargain. The paramount reason why people visit Alleppey is for the relaxing and memorable houseboat rides however we hired a Shikara or small wooden boat and enjoyed rowing and exploring through the narrowest canals and the most scenic backwaters of the majestic Alleppey. We took a quick break at a Toddy shop, a local palm wine from Kerala by the backwaters and had this yummy beef fry. Please note that some of the best foods that I have eaten in Kerala were in Toddy shops so don’t hesitate to ask the oarsman to stop and grab your food and drink. After the boat ride, we hopped on to our motorcycle and rode to Marari beach, which is about 15 kilometers away from Alleppey town. The beach was clean with white sand and a beautiful coconut grove along the coast and I must say that watching the sunset melted away all cares of the day.
We spent our last day at Alleppey exploring the town wherever the motorcycle would take us as I was down with high fever and could not make the most of it. We rested at noon and later on rode to Ambalapuzha Sree Krishna temple built in 15th century. The temple walls were lined with oil lamps and the inside with beautiful murals and hanging oil lamps, which were really fascinating. However we could not watch the oil lamps lit and have the famous rice pudding, never mind there is always a next time. We ended our stay watching the beautiful crimson sunset at a backwater filled with water lilies holding more promises and peace.
Please keep watching all our videos and all the exciting places we travel during these 14 days bike ride. Like, share and subscribe – Your support means a lot!!

Every traveler who visit Kerala has the backwaters in his or her mind. While Alappuzha and Kumarakom plays the key role in backwater tourism, Vaikom offers serene village tourism with unexploited backwater experience.
In Vaikom we started off with shikara boating and then coconut grove experience with toddy tapping. After enjoying the coconut wine, on a speed boat we sailed to the middle of Vembanad lake where we too tried our hands on collecting shells from the fresh water.
It was only a beginning... we bought some fish from the boat and deep fried it in Vaikom before enjoying a banana leaf meals in that Kerala Village.
After our Kerala style banana leaf meals, we went on for a village experience tour. This time we met with villagers who spun coir and mats, we also met a village potter who guided us to make small pots. Yet what we enjoyed the most was the canoeing experience in the narrow canals.

Kochi to Alleppey | The land of beaches | Kerala West Coast Tour - Day4
Day4 of Kerala West Coast Tour video series which is a 10 day road trip covering 8 major cities and rode a total of 2000+ kms.
Kochi to Alleppey distance by road is around 54 km. It was a sunny and hot day though it later started raining when I was close to alleppey. Morning I wanted to cover 2 places which I had missed the previous day - Kochi Marine Drive, Chinese fishing nets and Mattancherry museum. After finishing this I left Kochi for Alleppey. My goal was to cover 2 beaches - Andhakaranazhi beach and Marari Beach (but I managed to cover more than 2 beautiful beaches). The whole route to alleppey was beautiful and there was ocean on the right side till I reached alleppey. By the time i reached alleppey it was dark. I hope you like this journey.

Hey Guys !!
I went on a backpacking trip across Kerala in the month of November 2018 with a brand called Zostel. While Kerala, because of it's serene and quaint nature is usually a hotspot for travellers, this year however is not very crowded probably because people still think that it is not safe to travel to Kerala because of the floods, well as you can see in the video , the places are all dried up and completely safe to travel and in fact since this year is not so crowded, it is actually the best time to travel to Kerala.
Here is a link to Kerala Part 1 KOCHI video
To get to Alleppey from Kochi, I opted for a local KSRTC super fast bus, which was very comfortable and was squeaky clean. Ticket price INR 54.
If you are planning a trip to Alleppey, then here is my itinerary
DAY 1
1. Bike / Scooty ride in Alleppey, trust me it is quite an activity to do in Alleppey because of the butter smooth roads and the beautiful landscape.
2. Marari Beach
It is around 15 kms from Alleppey, super tranquil and Pretty.
Day 2
1. Explore Backwaters
You have multiple options to do the same:
i. Ferry
ii. Shikara
iii. House Boat
iv. Canoe
v. Kayak
If you want to explore the smaller canals, the last two are the only options available as the bigger boats cannot enter these narrow canals. (I highly recommend you guys to explore this in Alleppey)
Day 3
Visit Karumady (15 kms towards south of Alleppey)
Its is famous for the the half broken Buddha Statue.
Other Information
Accomodation: Zostel
Local Travel
Scooty rented from Zostel.
It is easily available everywhere.
Local buses and autos are also easily available and they go pretty much everywhere.
I hope you like the video.
Shikara Ride In Kerala Backwater: EP 03, Alleppey
The day started with getting the famous Kerala body massage and then the Shikara Ride. It was very peaceful evening spending in the backwater of kerala. The Shikara cost was of 1500 / Boat for 1.5 HRS.
I opted shikara because i want to feel the ride in real and close to nature.

Delicious Street Food & Biryani - Alappuzha (India) Tour - Day 02 || Petuk Couple - VLOG #27
This is the 2nd video of India's VLOG series.
First Video:
We woke up late in the morning and had lunch in Shawon's Home. Then packed our bags and went to Alleppey. As we were in rush I couldn't record video much.
Shawon previously booked a hotel and it cost around 4500 rupees for 3 room.
We went to Alleppey beach and enjoyed the view. After that, we rented two bikes each of that cost 350 rupees and started to explore Alappuzha city. It was great.
Let's get back to Food now!
We had biriyani at around 7:30 PM as we were so hungry. We went to Halais Restaurant. It was an Arab type of Restaurant and we had Yemeni Mandhi & Mutton Biryani.
The biriyani was amazing and it was one of the best Biryani I have ever had. The meat was very soft and melted in the mouth and the flavour was amazing.
Yemeni Mandhi was different in taste. It tasted like a mix of khichuri and biryani. But the mutton piece was not juicy and it was hard and dry. There were fewer spices on the meat. Overall it was average.
But when I mixed it with that exceptional খেজুরের আচার (Dates Pickle), It tasted so good.
Google Maps of Halais Restaurant:
After having Biryani, we again started to explore Alappuzha city and at around 11 o clock, we ended up in a roadside street food restaurant and had amazing foods.
Especially that Tuna fish. It was one of the best tuna gravy I ever had. They prepared that dish with local spices and the flavour of dry chilli was amazing. It's like, still I can feel that in my mouth.
Google Maps of Roadside Street Food:
If you ever visit Alappuzha city then don't forget to have a night on Boathouse. We didn't have enough time so, if we again visit that place we will surely stay there. It's cheap like 2000 rupees per person for a night stay in the boathouse and that includes dinner on the boat.

Canoe Ride : Kochi Backwaters
GottoDoIndia picks out fun activities to try out in Kochi, India and make your holiday enjoyable. In this video, watch the host, Sherry, go on a canoe ride and talk about her experience.
The canoe ride boat trip is perfect for taking a Kochi backwaters tour. The ride is extremely pleasant with the canoe passing through narrow tunnels and beautiful tree-lined banks. The host informs us that a canoe is a better mode of transport if you wish to explore Kochi's backwaters because it is narrower than a houseboat and can pass effortlessly through tunnels. During the ride, we get to see much natural beauty as the banks are lined with tall, shady trees and you can hear the cheerful chirping of birds and insects. We also get to see locals carrying out their regular chores, giving us a taste of the lifestyles followed here.
If you're a woman and watching this video, there's a pleasant surprise waiting for you at the end. Hint: You will be able to sport a chic hairstyle on your next holiday outing!
Your trip to Kochi is incomplete without spending at least a day in a houseboat. To know more about houseboats and Kochi's backwaters, watch this video:
If your prefer cycling over a canoe ride, you could cycle through Kochi to soak in the scenic sights. To know more about the best place to rent cycles and cool places to visit, check out this video:

#keralabackwaters #alleppeyhouseboat #saddaindia Shikara Trip Experience | Kerala Allappuzha
We got a chance to visit one of the most beautiful places in Kerala i.e. Alleppey. The lush green surroundings, fascinating Kerala backwaters and a visit to Marari Beach made our trip fabulous.
Our Journey- Day 1
We reached Kochi Airport in the night and did an ov ernight stay in a nearby hotel as it was quite late in the night.
Next day morning we started our road trip to Alleppey which took us around 2.5 hrs from airport. As soon as we reached Alleppey, we boarded the famous Shikara to explore the amazing backwaters.
Several vendors are there to provide you Shikara or Houseboat experience and you can book it locally after reaching there. We were 7 People and got Shikara booked for INR 3000 total cost for 3 hrs. You may book for more or less hours according to your interest and budget.
Streaming through the backwaters, we explored the lush green locations and small islands. We stopped by a small local restaurant in middle of our journey to take Lunch. Seafood is not to be missed if you are in Alleppey. Black Fish is one of the most popular dishes in the area.
Food Cost
Black Fish- INR 1000 Per Kg
Unlimited Thali- INR 100 Per person
Difference between Shikara and Houseboat
If you are looking for an overnight stay on the backwaters, houseboat is your option then. Houseboat has rooms to stay and can be booked for 1 or 2 nights. Whereas, Shikara provides you a day trip experience and can be booked on hourly basis.
Where did we Stay?
Well, we got a great deal at a hotel cum hostel 'The Bucket List'- popular as Aramana Holiday Inn. First we wanted to book it online but then we decided to reach there, check the property. It turned out to be a great decision as after reaching there, they gave us a great deal as we booked 3 rooms together.
Cost Per Room- INR 1200 on Double Sharing Basis with Breakfast for 2.
All in all it was a great stay experience as the property had bike rental options, indoor games like Table tennis, Jenga, Chess, Carom, UNO etc.
Our day was followed by great dinner that we ordered from Swiggy. We also had lot of fun dancing on the tunes of great music while making best use of the Kane Swings available inside the hotel.
Day 2
This was the day to start our journey back to Kochi to catch our flight. However, we used this day completely as we had an evening flight to catch. On our way back to the airport, our driver suggested us to visit Marari Beach. Just 20 kms on our way back, the beach was simply beautiful and gave us a feel of Goa.
There were many beach shacks and foreigners can be spotted in every nook and corner.
After spending some time at the beach, we headed towards the airport. On our way to airport, we stopped by a famous spice shop 'HOT Chips' which is very close the Cochin International Airport. We purchased some spices, Banana Chips etc from the shop.

A Stunning COASTAL Route in KERALA | Varkala, Kaapil, Alappuzha
About:
The motorcycling road trip through South India continues. In this episode the Royal Enfield and Bajaj Pulsar finally crossed the border and entered Kerala. We made a brief stop in Thiruvananthapuram, before heading off to find the West coast at Varkala. We spent a couple of days there, in and around the beautiful cliff beach. When it was time to go, we took the round-about but more scenic route to Alappuzha, hugging the coast for as long as we could. Some phenomenal roads were discovered in the process, as you will see in this video. Hope you guys enjoy the watch.

Alleppey Kerala stay
Alleppey (Alappuzha) is one of those fantastic towns where days can drift by while relaxing with a good book and watching happy village life flow by in front of you. This sensation is in great contrast to northern India. Here, the pace is slower and people are always smiling.
We highly recommend two neighboring guesthouses, located just outside of the town. Both are exceptional places and neither are listed in any English guide books (yet). They are however listed in French guide books.
