The sinkhole opened up around 4 p.m. Sunday and crews are still trying to figure out where the water is coming from. Camping + Kern River + Trail of 100 Giant Trees + Hot Springs = Fun Weekend in CA
Beware millennials. You may not have cell phone coverage if you attempt this adventure. Just a short three-hour drive from Los Angeles, and an hour from Bakersfield, a packed weekend adventure awaits you. As I packed my car with three Angelenos and our camping gear, we decided to have a break from the hustle and bustle of the big city, for a quiet trip to Kern River, and Trail of 100 Giant Trees, Sequoia National Monument. When we hit the road back to our final destinations in L.A., we took a side trip to the hot springs just off Borel Road. Only been camping in California a handful of times, I grabbed what I thought I needed for camping and came back with a longer list of items that I forgot. When you hit the river for tubing, be careful of the rocks. The water itself was a little low due to the California drought and because of this, I skin my back, making a previous injury worst. Just 15 minutes from our campsite, we entered a small town called Kernville, where surprisingly, we ate at a brewery that had a good food selection. Around the corner is a pizza joint for families with kids. Thank You, David, for a fun adventure. I manage to make a few close friends from the outing.

What is cyclocross (from wikipedia)
Cyclo-cross (sometimes cyclocross, CX, CCX, cyclo-X or 'cross) is a form of bicycle racing. Races typically take place in the autumn and winter (the international or World Cup season is October–February), and consist of many laps of a short (2.5–3.5 km or 1.5–2 mile) course featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles requiring the rider to quickly dismount, carry the bike while navigating the obstruction and remount.[1][2] Races for senior categories are generally between 30 minutes and an hour long, with the distance varying depending on the ground conditions. The sport is strongest in the traditional road cycling countries such as Belgium (Flanders in particular), France and the Netherlands.
Some famous cyclocross racers: Sven Nys, Jeremy Powers, Ryan Trebon, Tim Johnson, Jonathan Page, Katie Compton, Georgia Gould, Zdeněk Štybar, Marianne Vos, Wout Van Aert, Thijs Aerts, Richard Groenendaal, Adri van der Poel, Bart Wellens, Mario de Clercq, Niels Albert, Erwin Vervecken, Kevin Pauwels, Lars Boom, Daniele Pontoni, Francis Mourey, David McNeal, Brandon Gritters, Erik Johnson, Dorothy Wong

Shot on a GoPro Hero 3 Silver, this video shows my brother and I rocking this Tatooine-like Toad's Wild Ride outside of Bakersfield, California. Ever play Star Wars: Pod Racer? Tell me this course doesn't look like the canyons of Tatooine.
Music provided by DJ Earworm and his track United States of Pop (2013) Living the Fantasy. I thought it went really well with the footage.
Towards the end of the video you'll see a tarantula that we came upon during our ascent. Pretty scary looking.
