A drive down Hwy 178 between Ridgecrest and Lake Isabella California
We took Sue for a drive out in the country for her birthday heading through Onyx, Weldon, Mountain Mesa, Kernville, and Lake Isabella. We did some Geocaching, stopped at the Onyx General Store, checked out the water temperature in Lake Isabella (Lake Izapuddle LOL!) and strolled around Kernville and The Sequoia National Forest. The last stop was a surprise; The night time Haunted Tour at the Silver City Ghost Town in Bodfish, California.
Earthquake Raises Concerns About Lake Isabella Dam
Even after the shaking of this morning's 6.4 magnitude earthquake stopped, Lake Isabella residents were still wondering whether Lake Isabella Dam, which has been under repair, would be negatively impacted. Luckily, they were able to resume their Fourth of July celebrations in the shadow of the dam.

BELIEVE the Hype!! | Rivernook Campground
We went to Rivernook Campground in Kernville, CA over Memorial Day and it might just be our new favorite campground! We haven’t been everywhere, but so far this is one of the best campgrounds in California! If you are looking to do some camping in Southern California, you will definitely want to check this place out.
The spots are very deep and you will have no problem no matter how big your rig is—lots of large 5th wheels and Class As around. They also have a good amount of living space and we didn’t feel as packed in as we have at many of the other RV Resorts.
The best of all is that can back right up for some camping on the Kern River, which was swift flowing when we were there, or if you are camping with kids you can get a spot right on the creek. That was a lot of fun and the kids had a blast playing and splashing around on the hot days and mama bear didn’t need to have a panic attack from them getting swept away in the main river.
The spots along the creek and the river were partial hookup, but they have a very convenient dump station with plenty of room to maneuver. They do have some full hookup spots, they just aren’t the ones by the creek or the river.
They had all of the usual stuff that you would expect including a decent store, bathrooms, a fish cleaning station (and lots of good fishing along the bank), grassy park areas, volleyball, horse shoes, etc. They also had a bunch of cool looking trails, so bring your golf cart to cruise around the camp. The Kern River is obviously a mecca for whitewater rafting—we saw launch points the whole way up and there were a ton of rafters floating by all day over the weekend. This would be a great place to set up shop if you’re in the area for that.
It did rain one day, so we went into town to check out Kernville and it was a cute little town. We got pizza at the local pizza place to bring back for dinner and stopped and had a few adult beverages at the Kern River Brewing Company. Good food and a lot of different beers.
Overall, we really liked this place and will definitely try to get back there at least a few times a year. We’ve really been shipping Sequoia RV Ranch, but this one might have just slid into our DMs! We made some of the best memories in our Rockwood 2706ws yet and had a ton of fun, and that’s #WhyWeWork!
See you on the next adventure!

Kern River Canyon Route 178 on the way to Kernville/Lake Isabella
I like going up to the Kernville/ Lake Isabella area a lot. I like hanging out on the river, camping, and stopping up at Remington Hot Springs. One of my favorite parts is the drive through Kern River Canyon on the way there. That stretch of road is very scenic and it's the time I start to get excited about being out of LA, and turn on my Zen. Here it is sped up at 400% :D
