Kerry Coaches Celebrate 60 years in Business
Kerry Coaches began in 1957 when Johnny Buckley and his wife Mary B first provided transportation to the visitors in the Killarney area with the traditional horse and cart (locally known as a Jaunting Car). This quickly increased and in 1960 incorporated their first vehicle, a Ford Zephyr. Throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s “JJ Buckley & Sons”, as it was then known continued to expand and added 3 new VW Microbuses.
In 1979, Mike Buckley took over the business from his father and it was renamed “Buckley’s Tours”. The office was based in the front room of Mike’s home and the fleet was now a grand total of 6 vehicles, with seating capacity of 20 people. However, Mike had inherited great entrepreneurial skills from his father and teamed up with local businessman, Billy Daly and formed “Kerry Coaches”. Kerry Coaches focused on the booming American market and large group travel and continued to thrive with repeat clients throughout the 1990’s.
By the end of the Millennium, Mike and his team began to outgrow the old office and built the custom designed facilities which we still call home today. Located just on the edge of Killarney town it now boasts state of the art garage facilities, a modern office and an expanding team of 100 plus staff.
In 2008 Mike took full control of Kerry Coaches and merged it with Buckley’s Coaches. Today it is an awarding winning company with over 75 luxury vehicles. It is also joined by 3rd generation, Johnny Buckley (named after his Grandfather) who became transport manager in 2009. Since then the company has continued to be at the forefront of innovation and service both Nationally and Internationally.

Ring of Kerry, County Kerry, South-Western Ireland, Ireland, Europe
The Ring of Kerry is a 179-km-long circular tourist route in County Kerry, south-western Ireland. Clockwise from Killarney it follows the N71 to Kenmare, then the N70 around the Iveragh Peninsula to Killorglin -- passing through Sneem, Waterville, Cahersiveen, and Glenbeigh -- before returning to Killarney via the N72. Popular points include Muckross House (near Killarney), Staigue stone fort and Derrynane House, home of Daniel O'Connell. Just south of Killarney, Ross Castle, Lough Leane, and Ladies View (a panoramic viewpoint), all located within Killarney National Park, are major attractions located along the Ring. A more complete list of major attractions along the Ring of Kerry includes: Gap of Dunloe, Bog Village, Rossbeigh Beach, Cahersiveen Heritage Centre, Derrynane House, Skellig Experience, Staigue Fort, Kenmare Lace, Moll's Gap, Ladies View, Torc Waterfall, Muckross House, The Blue Pool, Ross Castle, Ogham Stones, St Mary's Cathedral, Muckross Abbey, Franciscan Friary, Kellegy Church, O'Connell Memorial Church, Sneem Church and Cemetery, Skellig Michael, Beehive Cells and the Stone Pillars marking an important grave. There is also an established walking path named The Kerry Way, which takes its own route, and a signposted Ring of Kerry cycling path which uses older quieter roads where possible. The Kerry Way roughly follows the scenic driving route of the Ring of Kerry. There are numerous variations to the route taking in St. Finian's Bay and Valentia Island which the official driving ring misses (the official cycling route takes in Valentia Island). As well as some fine beaches, it also offers the Gap of Dunloe, Bog Village, Derrynane House, the Skellig Experience Valentia Island, Molls Gap, Torc Waterfall, Muckross House and Ross Castle. The Ring is a popular day trip and numerous bus companies offer trips during the summer months. As the narrow roads make it difficult for tour coaches to pass, all tour buses run in an anti-clockwise (or counter-clockwise) direction, traveling via Killorglin first. Some recommend that car owners travel in the opposite direction, going first to Kenmare to avoid delays caused by tour buses. Others advise traveling counter-clockwise to avoid having to pass the buses. In 2008 satellite navigation systems were blamed for directing bus drivers in a clockwise direction around the route.
Kerry Tourism Showcase 2011 Malton Conference Centre Killarney
Building on the success of the Kerry Tourism Bus Promotion in the UK last month, Kerry County Council, Fáilte Ireland, Go Kerry - All Kerry Tourism and the wider tourism trade is mounting a major one-day showcase of Kerry tourism activities, visitor attractions and product providers in The Malton Hotel, Killarney. Participation in and admission to the exhibition was free.
Key to this is ensuring that everyone involved in tourism, from B&B owners to hotel reception staff, from taxi drivers to coach operators, know what activities and events are available in the county, where they are, and who is operating them. What we are looking to do is to keep the visitor in County Kerry for as long as possible to maximise and distribute the economic benefit to everybody, John Griffin, Kerry Tourism Officer explained. Kerry attracts 1.2 million visitors a year and if just one in three of these would remain in the county for one extra night it would be worth an extra €20 million to the local economy.
