A truly memorable mountain bike ride on the rustic granite-strewn island of Pulau Ubin. A resilient tropical XC trail loop with challenging gradients, rocks, and roots to satisfy black-diamond enthusiasts!
I met my friend Low Ji Wen - a former elite national cyclist - who had now taken to 'the dark side' (knobby-tired bikes) properly! We rode with his colleagues, enjoying kampong vibes and superb early-morning riding conditions. This was the perfect shakedown before packing up my Yeti SB6 for my Nepal Yak Ru trip.

Pulau Ubin Ketam Mountain Bike Park
Ketam Mountain Bike Park is a 45-hectare park that consists of 10 kilometres long of mountain bike trails. It is the first in Singapore that meets the international standards for mountain biking competitions. Apart from international standard competitions, Ketam Mountain Bike Park also allows visitors to enjoy recreational cycling.
The bike park is located around the fringe of a quarry in Pulau Ubin
Entry to the bike park is free of charge.

My nephew from the Philippines visited Singapore and wanted to join me in Mountain Biking. I wanted to bring him to Bukit Timah to cycle but it's very far from our house. So we decided to visit the nearest mountain bike trail which is the Ketam Mountain Bike Park in Pulau Ubin Island.
I cycled to Changi Village. My nephew took a bus and I waited for him at the Changi Village bus stop.
We took a bumboat from Changi Point Ferry Terminal that will bring us to Pulau Ubin island.
Bumboat cost: S$3 per person and S$2 per bicycle.
We rented a mountain bike in Pulau Ubin for my nephew. They are not as good as what you think, so be careful when riding those bikes in Ketam Trail.
Our plan was to cycle 2 rounds of Ketam trail but ended up doing 1 round only as he got tired. Ketam trail requires more pedaling.

@syumassh back in action at Ketam. Fantastic weather and trail conditions also meant that Golden Orb Spiders were out in full force too.

A short video of myself cycling on my favourite lung-busting trail in Singapore; Ketam Mountain Bike Park. Although not apparent in the video, the mosquitoes were out in swarms that day; unfortunately for me. If you put some headphones on and turn it up, you can hear short melodious bird songs from the Straw-headed bulbul; a song bird that is endangered by trapping for the caged bird trade. Filmed with Canon EOS 650D, video is made on a Mac, bike is a SantaCruz Blur LT 2.
Oh and what happened at 3:12? Leaned forward too much and rear tyre lost traction and spun. It doesn't look steep but it is towards the top, trust me.
Unfortunately the rocky rection at 3:30 - 3:34 is no longer around and has been replaced by a much easier smoother ride over the top. Sad, but true!

This MTB park is located on Pulau Ubin island. A short boat ride from a local port (near Changi Airport) to Pulau Ubin. This nature reserved park is full of surprises. very technical (climb) and lots of fun. It was wet, muddy and slippery, so I kinda hold back on speed or try anything crazy :-), after all I was on vacation.

Rainy weather leads to a slippery trail... a slippery trail leads to suffering and lots of cursing! I think between the five of us, we had about five or six incidents/falls in total.
