The drive through highest motorable road of the road is the most thrilling drive I've so far. On fourth drive of our day we decided to visit Nubra valley and we have to cross this pass to reach there. Just couple of days back in an accident couple of travelers lost their lives and the range was still not in good shape to travel, still we decided to go because we were loosing time. Finally we crossed the pass safely and we thanked god for that.

Khardung La (Khardung Pass, la means pass in Tibetan) is a mountain pass in the Leh district of the Indian union territory of Ladakh. The local pronunciation is Khardong La or Khardzong La but, as with most names in Ladakh, the romanised spelling varies.
The pass on the Ladakh Range is north of Leh and is the gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valleys. The Siachen Glacier lies part way up the latter valley. Built in 1976, it was opened to public motor vehicles in 1988. Maintained by the Border Roads Organisation, the pass is strategically important to India as it is used to carry supplies to the Siachen Glacier.

Maintained by the Border Roads Organisation, the pass is strategically important to India as it is used to carry supplies to the Siachen Glacier.
The elevation of Khardung La is (17,582 ft). Local summit signs and dozens of stores selling shirts in Leh incorrectly claim that its elevation is in the vicinity of 5,602 m (18,379 ft) and that it is the world's highest motorable pass. An explanation that has been proposed for the error is that the summit sign inherited the altitude of the original mule track through the pass.

Motorbiking the Khardung-La mountain pass in the Indian Himalayas was definitely the craziest and the most difficult motorbike trip of my entire life as we got into a terrible snow-storm at the top of the pass and riding every meter became an incredibly difficult thing to do.
However, experiences like this are one of the main reasons I love traveling so much and honestly I couldn't be happier about how this trip turned out. Life's short, there's no time to waste doing the easy thing, hey! Haha :)

A mountain pass at the height of 13380 fts above sea level in Ladakh region of Jammu Kashmir, india.
This Pass connects Leh city and Nubra valley. it was started in 1988 for motors. This is one of the highest motorable roads in the world.
This pass helps india to carry out supply's to siachen glacier. This road is maintained by BRO- Border Roads Organisation.
Many people talk rumours that people always fall sick with the high altitude problem in Khardung la but we didnt face any problem at all to be honest. Yes you must do all your actions in slow motion and give your body enough time to adjust with climate.
This pass is approximately 38 kms from Leh city and approximately 120 kms from Nubra valley. Road between south Pullu and North Pullu is not really nice but off course can be understood as the extreme climate conditions.

One of the most thrilling and adventurous one being a drive to the famous Khardung La Top at 18,380 feet above sea level.
Khardung La is a mountain pass in the Ladakh region of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir and is one of the most famous landmarks of this place. At an elevation of 18380 feet above the main sea level, Khardung La is claimed to be the “world’s highest motorable pass”.
Road from Leh to South Pullu is good but from there until Khardung La top roads are rough. It’s primarily loose rock and occasional streams of snow melt due to frequent landslides.
This pass is the gateway to Nubra valley, Shyok Valley & Siachen Glacier. To reach Nubra or Shyok valley you will have to pass through the Khardung La Top.
A visit from Leh -Khardung La top & back to Leh is around 80 kms round trip
The pass in general remains open throughout the year and is used by the locals and the Army to cross over towards either Leh or Nubra Valley.
Inner line permit is required to visit Khardung La, Shyok and and Nubra valley, One need to submit a copy of ID at each check post – The South Pullu and the North Pullu. Khardung La Top is in between South & North Pullu check post.

Riding the Khardungla Pass, Ladakh India
In July 2018 I rode down from one of the highest road passes in the world, the Khardungla pass. This pass on the Ladakh Range is north of Leh and is the gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valleys. The elevation of the pass is 5,359 m (17,582 ft). This is an absolutely awesome trip; the scenery is amazing and the ride down great fun. The massive head rush of altitude as you climbing to the stupa's on the pass was also memorable (even despite my good aclimatisation).

Built in 1976, it was opened to public motor vehicles in 1988 and has since seen many automobile, motorbike and mountain biking expeditions. Maintained by the Border Roads Organisation, the pass is strategically important to India as it is used to carry supplies to the Siachen Glacier.
The elevation of Khardung La is 5,359 m (17,582 ft) measured by latest DGPS technology. But local summit signs and dozens of stores selling shirts in Leh incorrectly claim that its elevation is in the vicinity of 5,602 m (18,379 ft) meters and that it is the world's highest motor able pass.
Khardong La is historically important as it lies on the major caravan route from Leh to Kashgar in Central Asia. About 10,000 horses and camels used to take the route annually, and a small population of Bactrian camels can still be seen at Hunder, in the area north of the pass. During World War II there was an attempt to transfer war material to China through this route.
