England Scotland Anglo-Scottish border patrol Kielder Forest to Kielder castle
Today walk started after a night wild camping at Newcastleton Forest by the start of Kielder Forest which is right on the border between Scotland and England. Newcastleton Forest on the Scottish side of the border is where i camped right by the forest border bridge into England. Today i walked along the Cross border trail which is a bike route which few people use i only saw 3 people in last 40 or so hours and they was on bikes and it is a weekend still in Summer. I regret not making a effort walking of my route to see the Old Toll Pillar at Bloody Bush. so apart from a forest walk i also walked along Kielder Water to Kielder castle. I stayed the night at Kielder Campsite.
Kielder Forest, one of the biggest man-made woodlands in Europe.
Old Toll Pillar at Bloody Bush. Old maps show a 'Site of Battle' at Bloody Bush. It was in fact more of a nasty skirmish (or 'sanguinary encounter', as James Logan Mack tells it) between Border Reivers. A party of english raiders had camped here overnight and were found and killed by Liddesdale men. The exact date is unknown but likely to have been in the C15th or 16th centuries. The Toll Pillar was set up by the two landowners in the 1830s and is a substantial structure some 15 feet high with an inscribed plaque on its north side.
Kielder Water is a large man-made reservoir in Northumberland. It is the largest artificial lake in the United Kingdom by capacity of water.
Kielder Castle is an 18th-century hunting lodge built by the Duke of Northumberland. It is now a Visitor Centre with a cafe.
Kielder Campsite is a fantastic campsite i could not fault it. Only £6.50 a night for hiker backpacker tent. You get free WIFI which you need as there is no mobile signal from any the networks there. There is even a room where you can charge your battery packs this is idea for digital nomads hikers backpackers its a real plus in my eyes when campsites do that. The showers nice and warm easy to control and cost no extra. There even a heated room where you can view the stars at night. It has large camping area. There also washing machines which of course cost extra.

I stayed the night at Kielder Campsite. Today walk is along the forest road drive most the way. Then of on a 4wd track right of way. On the way i stopped at Ratty bird hide just have a look no rest was needed at this time. It was a nice steady climb for 6 miles to the saddle of the forest track at resting shelter called the Nick. I left the forest drive road onto a 4wd track right of way down to Border Forest Holiday Park where i met famous outdoor youtuber dead read doing the Pennine way which he has now completed so check out his channle. I wanted to see the Kings stones stone circle but lummox been at work and was not possible to see it,

BLAKEHOPE NICK OVERLOOK. The Nick, at the highest point on Kielder Forest Drive. The structure’s unique tilted pentagonal form is built from larch, much of which came from just over the border in Scotland. This distinctive tree, which thrives in Kielder Forest, is the only European conifer that loses its needles in the winter. It’s a popular wood for building, and is the perfect material to withstand the exposure and climate at the highest point on the Forest Drive.
Border Forest Holiday Park. £8.00 a night for backpacker tent. showers was no extra cost but i bit dated. There was electric plugs in the cooking area i used to charge my battery pack and a microwave. But there was no food or drink sold at this campsite which is crazy as there is no where to get food in the area at the time i was there and this also the last stage of the Pennine way for alot people. To be fair they did give me some snake size packets of porridge some one had left. But if it was not for that all would had to get over the Cheviots was a small pot of snack pasta and a all day meal can. Remember the size bag i have so i was a bit concerned but hey my first challenge of the hike not that i need challenges.

On the 21st July 2012 7paranormal investigated the world famous Kielder Castle, when we left the Castle i left my Voice recorder recording upstairs, the Castle remained empty until the cleaners arrived at 9am, i called back for it 3 weeks later. This is what we caught, i have broke the clips down to 8 as the recording is over 5 hours long, let us know what you think :-)

Section 19: Kielder to Kielder Dam
Following our overnight stay in Kielder where we were denied a glimpse of the dark sky because of cloud cover, we head around the north shore of Kielder Water. We begin with exploring around Kielder castle and village area; telling the Northumberland legend of the Cout o’ Kielder and visiting the maze and Salmon Centre. After we pick up once more the Lakeland Way; this time battling with the weather along the north shore visiting further architectural art works, discussing some of the settlements now under the lake, and once more enjoying the magnificent views before finishing with a visit to where Falstone mine once operated.

Hexham Walk was about 8.5 miles in distance. The terrain of the route was a combination of riverside, field and woodland paths and tracks; plus some short road sections, pavements and drives. One path was waterlogged and difficult to negotiate. The walking was easy to moderate, mostly on level ground with some gentle ascents. Route finding was easy with obvious paths and tracks, good waymarking and good landmarks. There were 4 stiles to negotiate.
