KYIV UKRAINE | A trip to an Eastern European city
My Kyiv, Ukraine trip has come to an end! This was the first time I was able to travel to Ukraine in a long time so I felt like I was getting first immersions of Ukraine all over again. In this Kiev vlog I show you where I stayed in Kiev, what I liked about Ukraine and what I didn’t like. Overall it has been an amazing trip that worked out pretty cheap! Ukraine tends to be a budget friendly option for travel, even the most expensive restaurants in Ukraine are priced reasonably compared to other countries. I highly recommend trying Ukranian food!
I hope you can use my Kiev, Ukraine videos as a travel guide. A few of my family live there so even though I would consider my expectations to now be that of a westerner, I still aim to take a local approach to dealing with issues. Like customer service for example. In Ukraine, if you are not happy - complain!! Ukranian people can come across as blunt, even rude sometimes but I can promise you that it is just a cultural difference from the West. It has nothing to do with bad intentions and more to do with wearing your heart of your sleeve. I think some may be shocked at how differently things are dealt with in Slavic counties!
There are many reasons to visit Ukraine. The food, the beautiful architecture and fascinating history are just some of them! I hope my Kiev vlog inspires you to see Kiev for yourself!

20 Things to do in Kiev, Ukraine Travel Guide Video Script:
This week we’re showing you around Kiev, Ukraine. This was our first time travelling to the country, so we hardly knew what to expect, though we did have an inkling we’d find churches with onion domes, borsht on every menu, and very cheap prices, but that was it!
Well, we found some of that, but we also discovered a fascinating city with ornate architecture, massive Soviet monuments, a completely new cuisine, more churches and monasteries than we ever thought possible, and friendly people despite the language barrier.
The following is our travel guide to the city. Now let us share with you 20 things to do in Kiev on your next visit!
And that’s a wrap for our visit to Kiev! This was our first time travelling in Ukraine, but we were hooked right from the start.
This destination felt very underrated with few tourists around, yet we were surrounded by beautiful architecture, there were churches galore to visit, the cuisine was hearty and filling, and everything was super affordable.
If you are thinking of travelling to Kiev, we hope this video was able to give you a taste of what it’s like.
If you have any other suggestions of things to do in Kiev, that we may have missed, feel free to share your tips and suggestions with travellers in the comments.

Ukraine Travel Guide – Watch before going to Kiev (Kyiv) – Is it safe to travel to Kiev?
In this video we will cover Kyiv, Kiev travel, things to do in Kyiv and more on Ukraine. Kiev tourism is growing but there is still a lot that can surprise even the well-travelled tourist. This will help you plan your itinerary for Ukraine travel and will include Kiev must see places, Ukrainian food and Kiev restaurants, Kiev museums, Kiev shopping and Kiev cathedral.
So, you’ve decided to go to Kyiv!
Initially, I was only going to Kiev to visit Chernobyl, but ended up falling in love with the city. Here’s the rundown and a list of what do to in Kiev, one of the most beautiful cities I have visited in Eastern Europe.
The residents of Kiev are extremely friendly, although communication was a little difficult for us. We did find a lot of Kiev residents were not able to speak English, which did make small things such as ordering food, getting from the metro station or taxis interesting, but no more difficult than other non-English speaking countries.
Ukraine has its own currency called Hryvnia, which can easily be withdrawn from local ATMs or converted ideally from Euros or USD. Kiev is a relatively cheap city to visit when you compare it to the rest of Eastern and Western Europe. For example, a bottle of beer in Rome is 4 euro, and an average price for a bottle of beer in Kiev is 1.4 euro. We definitely found eating out at local Ukrainian resturants really affordable, which was a real treat because their local cuisine is delicious. Our dinners were the most expensive meals for us and would generally cost us around 20 to 25 euros for a 3-course meal, but you can easily have a nice budget meal for 5 – 7 euros.
When it comes to accommodation, just like anywhere in Europe, you can find budget and expensive hotels. We stayed in close to the main square in an apartment-style hotel that cost approximately 60 euro a night, and it was beautiful! It had a unique entry that was original to the building, and the room was very modern and had a sauna. We visited in Winter, so having a sauna in the room was perfect. Hotels range from 5 to 10 euros for a 1 to 2-star room, 10 to 50 euro for a 3 to 4-star room, and 50 to 100 euro on average for a 5-star room.
Kiev is full of wide streets and grand buildings, full of details and colour, which was a complete surprise to us. It’s known as the city of domes, and you can definitely see why! The city has many beautiful cathedrals and churches, and we definitely a must see! It’s worthwhile visiting them as they look very different from churches and cathedrals in the rest of Europe.
The ones we would recommend are: Saint Andrews Church, which completed construction in 1747 and boasts beautiful green and gold details; Saint Sophia Cathedral is one of the city’s best-known landmarks and the first heritage site in Ukraine; and Saint Michaels Monastry, which is still a functioning monastery in Kiev and can’t be missed with its light-blue exterior and gold domes.

Our Ukraine Travel Series started in Kiev (Київ) the Capital of Ukraine. We had 10 days to see as much of country as we could. Moving on south west of the country we took an overnight train to Ivano-Frankivsk before taking a hire car up into the Carpathian Mountains. Bad weather in the mountains restricted what we could achieve, before driving north to Lviv. Our final day was spend flying back to Kiev to catch our flight home to the UK.

Do Ukrainians like foreigners?
Instead of North-European folks and people in Central Europe Ukrainians are friendly and sincere. For instance, a little time had passed, and you became a part of a community, which were total Ukrainian before. There is a very unusual feature, that distinguishes them from others European. They like to speak about
• politics
• salary
• individual problems
Family values are very reliable. It proves a variety of traditions and fests. For instance, girls from cities like to spend secular wedding ceremony and wedding before God due to familiar traditions. This is one of them: those, who first make a step on rushnyk for the altar, will the head of the family.
European leisure
Ukrainians like to have a rest like Europeans. Young people like to walk on open squares in centers of cities and even splash in fountains. After working day many people are hurrying in night clubs. They are:
• open twenty-four-hours
• variety of alcohol drinks
• show programmed
Ukraine is a secular state, that`s why there are no strict rules about alcohol intake. Ukrainians like to feast. In a bar, they will order with pleasure a cocktail or a beer pitcher, which a sign of hospitality. In this case, don`t refuse of it.
Foreigners like exotic
Due to Eurostat only 5% of Ukrainians citizens go out of borders of their motherland every year. This low percent is dictated by a major part of the population that has low income and can`t allow for themselves rest/education abroad. Communication with foreigners for usual Ukrainians is very rare and valuable stuff, which sometimes turns in exotic. That’s why citizens of Ukraine try to be and behave courteous and polite, speak English and other languages. So, be lenient when they
• Try to speak not-academic English
• Ask you a lot about you and your country
• Take care of you
Price policy for foreigners
If you don`t have an aim to visit Ukraine for the special event (like it was 2018 UEFA Champions League Final) or town by the sea (Odessa), don`t be afraid of great spending. According to Daily Mail for 2018, year Kyiv is the cheapest tourist direction. So, the price for the night in the Kyiv`s hotel can rate 64.79£, compile price 2 240 in UAH. Besides traditional historical monuments, everyone can observe modern tendencies in the capital. For instance, there can be found street-art, expositions of modern artists in PinchukArtCentre and even Soviet architecture. The last point attracts such artists as
• MØ (Kamikaze)
• Miley Cyrus (Nothing Breaks Like a Heart)
• THE WEEKND (isn`t released yet)
which make clips in Kyiv. Anyway capital attracts young talented people, which have chances for realization in a big city.
