The coral reefs around Walindi are extraordinarily rich. A recent coral count of Kimbe Bay revealed an incredible 413 species of hard coral. This is over half the total world species in one Bay, a truly remarkable statistic which makes Kimbe Bay the Coral Capital of the World. Over 900 species of fish have been recorded and this number will continue to grow as more research is done.
Kimbe Bay can be accessed from Walindi Resort and the liveaboard MV FeBrina.

WALINDI PLANTATION RESORT nestles on the shores of Kimbe Bay and Max and Cecilie Benjamin, their family and staff have been proudly showing off the Kimbe Bay reefs to visiting divers for over 30 years.
Walindi Resort is also home port to the boutique liveaboard dive vessel, MV FeBRINA. With Captain Alan Raabe at the helm, FeBrina has been exploring the waters of New Britain further afield from Kimbe Bay for over 22 years.

Witu Islands and Kimbe Bay - Papua New Guinea
Witu Islands, to the north west of Kimbe Bay, are a remote group of islands with a wide variety of dive types to visit. The islands and reef are of volcanic origin and rise from very deep water. Garove Harbour is actually a submerged volcanic crater. Nutrient rich currents frequently waft across most reefs and as a result there is a profusion of life. Schools of pelagic fishes abound on the world renowned Lama Shoals, a sea mount rising to within 15 feet of the surface from the surrounding deep waters.

Kimbe Bay: Marine Research & Conservation, Papua New Guinea
Mahonia Na Dari (MND) means Guardian of the Sea in the local Bakovi language of the Talasea Peninsula in West New Britain Province (WNBP), Papua New Guinea.
Mahonia Na Dari started in 1997, through co-operative effort between The Nature Conservancy, the European Union Islands Regional Environmental Program and Walindi Plantation Resort. Mahonia Na Dari operates from the Walindi Nature Centre.
It was formed to provide Marine Environment Education Program (MEEP) to the local population in West New Britain Province and the New Guinea Islands region.
Its mission is to understand and conserve the natural environments of Kimbe Bay and Papua New Guinea (PNG) for the benefit of present and future generations. This has been and continues to be achieved by supporting local resource management initiatives now and during the last 10 years.
Since the inception of the organization in 1998, MND has reached out to more than 150,000 students and teachers, local communities and other organizations who are interested in marine education.
In the national arena, MND is a leading advocate for marine conservation with strengths in marine education and awareness. It facilitates marine research and an increased understanding of the marine environment.
These programs have promoted the protection of PNG's abundant biodiversity by promoting sustainable use of marine resources by the community.

Kimbe trouble
A Hagen man appeared for mentioning yesterday at the Kimbe District court in relation to the stabbing of a Tolai man that sparked the ethnic tensions over the weekend in Kimbe.
West New Britain Police Commander Sylvester Siguyaro however says that investigations show that unlike previous assumptions, the Hagen man was acting in self-defence after the drunk Tolai man along with his drunk two in-laws from the Morokea area confronted him.
