(15 Feb 2018) AMERICA'S TOP DOG VISITS THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING
Flynn the bichon -- America's top dog -- paid a visit to the top of New York's Empire State Building on Wednesday (14 FEB. 2018), fresh off his big win Tuesday night at the Westminster Kennel Club.
The choice was a surprise to most of the crowd at Madison Square Garden, with many fans falling silent when the white powder puff was picked.
Flynn's handler, Bill McFadden, even said he was nervous during the competition.
We didn't have any tricks like sitting up, he said. When I saw that I was like 'OK, we're sunk.'
Flynn beat out Ty the giant schnauzer, Biggie the pug, Bean the Sussex spaniel, Lucy the borzoi, Slick the border collie and Winston the Norfolk terrier. The giant schnauzer was the runner-up.
The 142nd Westminster event drew 2,882 entries in 202 breeds and varieties.
Flynn's tour of New York City is set to finish Wednesday night with a walk-on part in the Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots on Broadway.

Oneonta To Broadway: Not As Far As You Think- Hal Luftig '79
This year’s keynote speaker for the 2015 Student Research & Creativity Day was theatrical producer and Oneonta alumnus, Hal Luftig '79. He spoke on the topic “SUNY Oneonta…a lot closer to Broadway than you think”.
Most recently, Luftig was the lead producer on “Kinky Boots,” the multi-Tony-Award winning musical written by Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper. But Luftig’s resume includes box office favorites “Catch Me If You Can” and “Legally Blonde” as well as Broadway revivals of “Evita,” “The King and I,” and “Annie Get Your Gun.” Currently, Luftig is working on “The Last Goodbye,” a retelling of “Romeo and Juliet” using the music of the late Jeff Buckley, and “The Elephant Man,” a revival of the play with Bradley Cooper. Luftig has won four Tony Awards, including two as lead producer, and London's Olivier Award, also as lead producer.

My Life With AIDS: Patrick in New York City
Patrick discovered he had AIDS 20 years ago, while performing in a Broadway show. Receiving such diagnosis at that time meant your life could be over very soon. Scared and lost, Patrick turned to The Actors Fund for help. He has been receiving comprehensive financial and mental support ever since, which enables him to live and prosper despite his diagnosis.
Patrick says, Being a part of the Broadway community, I am so grateful for where I was when I was sick. I probably wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the community that was around me and the Actors Fund. It’s a good side to be on and a good cause to celebrate and support. I love how this community looks after each other - that is a remarkable idea.”
Broadway Cares is the single largest funder of the safety of social services offered by The Actors Fund, which helps thousands of people in the entertainment industry every year through it's programs.
