The cemetery contains 1,668 Commonwealth, 1 Polish and 1 American burials of the Second World War and 7 non-war burials. In addition, in 1962 the graves of 629 First World War servicemen were brought to the cemetery from Bombay (Sewri) Cemetery and reburied in the grassed area between the Memorial and the Cross of Sacrifice. They are commemorated by name on the KIRKEE MEMORIAL. The KIRKEE MEMORIAL stands within the cemetery and was built to commemorate more than 1800 servicemen and women who died in India during the First World War, who were buried in civil and cantonment cemeteries in India and Pakistan whose graves were considered to be unmaintainable after India gained its independence in 1947. For several years now, the Commission has been working to reinstate the original graves of a large number of these individuals and to date, the official commemoration of over 1000 individuals have been reverted back to their original burial location. However, their names will remain on the memorial for the foreseeable future. On the same memorial are commemorated almost 200 East and West African servicemen who died in non-operational zones in India in the Second World War, and whose graves either cannot be located or are so situated that maintenance is not possible.
Kirkee, also known as Khadki, is a Military Cantonment adjoining the large university town of Poona on the Plateau above Bombay. It can be reached by train from Bombay to Poona or by long distance taxi or bus service from Dadar Taxi/Asiad Bus Stand in Bombay. The War Cemetery is about 5-6km from Pune Railway Station.

British World War Cemetery or the Memorial is one of the finest and well maintained monuments by Commonwealth War Graves Commission in Pune and in India that reminds us of the Imperial Past and also the Legacy of the Two Great Wars fought.
Every Grave stone has a story to tell. Its amazing to see that the soldiers that died fighting for the Empire belonged to all parts of the world and almost all religions. It speaks a lot about the make up of the Imperial Royal Army and the motivation was very different to the world that we live in today.
The Dead Muslim soldiers have Islamic epitaph written on them likewise we can see a Star of David for the Jewish Soldiers and Cross for the Majority of Christians. Some of the dead Soldiers have Buddhist Pagodas on the Grave stones of Buddhist and British Soldiers who died fighting in Burma.
The dead soldiers are from India and all over the world some belong to west Africa , Europe among other places. Most of the soldiers are young in their twenties and some as old as fifty also a sad reminder to the lives lost in those Wars.

Old Christian Cemetery in Pune
Christian cemetery, Pune, Maharashtra, India.
Pune, formerly Poona, is the eighth largest metropolis in India, the second largest in the state of Maharashtra after Mumbai, and the largest city in the Western Ghats. Once the centre of power of the Maratha Empire, it is situated 560 metres above sea level on the Deccan plateau at the confluence of the Mula and Mutha rivers. Pune city is the administrative capital of Pune district.
Pune is known to have existed as a town since 937 AD. Pune was originally called Punawadi. In 1730, Pune became an important political center as the seat of the Peshwa, the prime minister of the Chhatrapati of Satara; it was during this era that Pune became the centre of Indian politics. After the town was annexed to British India in 1817, it served as a cantonment town and as the monsoon capital of the Bombay Presidency until the independence of India.

Madras War Cemetery / Beautiful Memorial || ಬಹಳ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಸ್ಮಾರಕ || ಚೆನ್ನೈ
Madras War Cemetery
Madras War Cemetery is a war cemetery and a memorial in Nandambakkam, Chennai(Madras), Tamil Nadu, India, created to receive Second World War graves from many civil and cantonment cemeteries in the south and east of India where their permanent maintenance could not be assured.
Madras War Cemetery is located on Mount-Poonamallee Road, #Nandambakkam, about 5 km from the airport and 1 km from St. Thomas Mount. The cemetery is open to the public.
The cemetery is spread over an area of 2.75 acres[1] and contains 856 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War. It was established in 1952 by the Imperial War Graves Commission, now known as the #Commonwealth War Graves Commission(CWGC), to pay tribute to the men and women of the Commonwealth nations who sacrificed their lives in World War II. It is now maintained by the CWGC in partnership with Government of India.[2] The cemetery is given to the CWGC under perpetual lease by the Defence Ministry.
The Madras 1914–1918 War Memorial, known as the Madras Memorial of the First World War, is situated at the rear of the cemetery. The memorial is styled on the lines of a Lawn Cemetery. The memorial does not contain any buried dead-bodies, but has plaques with the names of many British soldiers who died in both the World Wars, with the inscription Their name liveth for evermore. It bears the names of more than 1,039 servicemen who died during the First World War and lie in many civil and cantonment cemeteries in various parts of India where it is not possible to maintain their graves in perpetuity.[1]
Commonwealth nationals whose remains were buried include 14 Australians and 5 New Zealanders.
Delhi War Cemetery
The Delhi War Cemetery, in the Delhi Cantonment, Delhi, India, is the site of the graves of 1,154 service personnel who served the British Empire during the First and Second World Wars. A Stone of Remembrance, engraved with the words 'their name liveth for evermore' is also present at the cemetery, as well as a Cross of Sacrifice. On the second Saturday of November, Remembrance Day, the British High Commission and others visit the memorial and place wreaths in memory of the dead.

khadki bazar pune, khadki pune, khadki market pune
Khadki could be considered an Indian Army base, along with an ordnance factory consisting of two ammunition factories, a Military Vehicle Depot (Central Armed Forces Vehicle Depot, CAFVD) and the Military Dairy Farm.
Referred to previously as Kirkee during the British Raj, its borders are flanked by two other large army establishments—the College of Military Engineering at Dapodi and the Bombay Engineering Group. It also has a war cemetery (Kirkee War Cemetery) and a war memorial. It has a large market—Khadki Bazaar—and a railway station which was connected to the Ammunition Factory, but which link was shut down in the 1960s. Khadki had a large number of open areas which were converted by CAFVD into playing fields for both Field Hockey and soccer (Football), with as many as four of the former and two of the latter, thereby becoming a bastion of hockey. All tournaments in Pune were played there, on dust grounds that were watered prior to a match. As it expanded, Pune built stadiums for both these sports. Local Association Football and Field Hockeymatches are held on the CAFVD Sports Stadium in front of the Khadki Railway Station. Field Hockey matches are also held on the main road from Khadki to the Ordnance Factory, better known as Ammunition Factories. One pair of Football and Hockey fields has since been converted into residential areas, bordered by St Joseph's Convent Girls School on Burr Road, General Thorat Road and the old Pune-Mumbai Road. Khadki is surrounded on three sides by the Mula River, starting from Bopodi/Dapodi, past the War Cemetery, joining the Mutha River at what is known as Sangamwadi. Two historic bridges add to its military background, the low-lying Holkar Bridge and the Sangam Double Bridges- one for rail and the other for road traffic. Two more bridges have been added since 2005, one replacing Holkar Bridge as it would invariably be submerged in the monsoonsand the other to shorten the distance from Deccan College area to Poona Engineering College and Deccan Gymkhana. Khadki has as many as seven military officer's messes.
