Kofukuji Temple (興福寺), Nara City, Japan
西国観音巡礼 第 9 番 南円堂 興福寺
Kofukuji Temple, also sometimes known as Nan-en-do, is a temple located in Nara City. It is one of the temples, technically outside the Nara Park, closer to the JR Nara Station, hence one of the first temples you will encounter on the way to Nara Park.
Kofukuji Temple boasts a majestic five storied pagoda and a sprawling temple precincts. One of the main halls was under remodeling when I visited there, but I was able to video most of the items in the precincts.
Kofukuji is temple #9 in the Saikoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage circuit of Western Japan.
Hope you enjoy!!!

4K 佐賀県 祐徳稲荷神社 Yutoku Inari Shrine, Kyushu JAPAN
Yūtoku Inari Shrine 祐徳稲荷神社 is a shrine located in Kashima City, Saga Prefecture. It is one of the most famous Inari shrines in Japan.
Dedicated to Inari, the wild fox kami, it is the third largest of its kind in Japan. It was constructed in 1688 as the family shrine of the Nabeshima clan who ruled what would become the Saga area (called Hizen at that time) during the Edo period. It was built to the Inari kami of the harvest by a princess from Kyoto named Manko Hime 萬子媛 who married Nabeshima Naotomo. The Nabeshima clan was entrusted with protecting Edo’s interests in Kyūshū, in particular the city of Nagasaki, which was one of the few ports open to foreign contact during Japan’s period of isolation.
Its main hall stands on tall wooden beams 18 meters above the valley floor, not unlike Kyoto's Kiyomizudera Temple. From the main hall's terrace, a walking trail leads further into the wooded hill behind the shrine. Sections of the path are covered by torii gates and lined by smaller shrines. After about a ten minute climb, visitors will find the small Okunoin shrine hall at the top and nice views over Kashima City and the nearby Ariake Sea.
Higashi-yama Koen, a park making up the outer garden of the shrine, is known for the splendor of its azaleas.

Sherlock Investigates Japan - Kiyomizu-Dera Seiryu-e Dragon Festival
Wandering around one of Kyoto's most famous temples, Kiyomizu-Dera, Sherlock watches the event called Seiryu-e or Dragon Festival.
This event is about the Blue Dragon which is said to drink from the water that flows in to the temple. This event started in the year 2000 and has increased in popularity. An eighteen meter long Dragon is marched around the temple to the sound of hours and drums and is said to bring good luck to those who visit the temple for this festival. Let's hope it does.

Along with Shinto shrines, Buddhist temples in Japan are considered among the most numerous, famous and important religious buildings. The Japanese word for a Buddhist temple is tera , and the same kanji also has the pronunciation ji, so temple names often end with -ji or -dera. There is also another ending, -in (normally used for minor temples). Famous temples as Enryaku-ji, Kiyomizu-dera, and Kotoku-in illustrate the naming patterns.
Have you ever seen Japanese wind chimes? They are called 風鈴 (fuurin) and they are hung outside of houses and buildings. When the wind blows, they make a beautiful, soothing chiming sound that will make you feel very relaxed.According to traditional Japanese thought, 風鈴 (fuurin) also have the ability to ward off evil spirits.
The shakuhachi is a Japanese end-blown flute. It was originally introduced from China into Japan in the 8th century and underwent a resurgence in the early Edo Period. The shakuhachi is traditionally made of bamboo, but versions now exist in ABS and hardwoods. It was used by the monks of the Fuke school of Zen Buddhism in the practice of suizen (blowing meditation). The instrument is tuned to the minor pentatonic scale.
