Travelling exhibition of works by Picasso reaches final stop
AP Television
Zagreb, Croatia - 22 March 2013
1. Wide of Nude in an Armchair (1932) painting by Pablo Picasso on display at exhibition
2. Zoom in on Family on the beach (1922) painting
3. Various of Head of a woman (1921) painting
4. Wide of people looking at pictures
5. SOUNDBITE: (Croatian) Marina Viculin, Head Curator, Klovicevi Dvori Museum:
''We count on them, certainly. Even more, we hope that through this exhibition we can create a habit, for people to come to perhaps even some less famous exhibitions than Picasso's - because it is hard to make a stronger or more attractive exhibition than this one. We want to create a notion in this region, in this part of the world that we directly communicate with, that Zagreb could be one of the centres they go to. Just as we go to Vienna or Trieste.''
6. Various of photographs of Picasso
7. SOUNDBITE: (English) Anne Baldassari, Director and Chief Curator, Picasso Museum, Paris:
''In 1981, before the opening in 1985, we have been able to send the collection at MoMA, for example, or in London. And from this moment, it was impossible to organise so extensive and comprehensive show because these works are the national collection and the public of the Hotel Sale in Paris needs to see them in the rooms. So, the opportunity of this renovation work creates the best condition to do a selection, to build a scientific project, theoretical projects and to do a show like that for three months, three-months-and-a-half here, to bring and share Picasso to the world in different places.''
8. Close-up of Bust of a Woman (1907) painting
9. Close-up of Man's head (1909)
10. Mid of Reading a letter (1921)
11. Close-up of Man's head (1908)
12. Zoom in on Sleeper with Blinds (1936) painting on display at exhibition
13. SOUNDBITE: (English) Anne Baldassari, Director and Chief Curator, Picasso Museum, Paris:
''It's a way for us to pay a part of the renovation. As you know, Europe and France is in the global financial crisis and we are in a position, with a responsible position, to contribute to the renovation of our institution, of our building.''
14. Mid of Nude on white canvas (1921) painting
15. Close-up of Caffe in Royan (1940)
16. Close-up of A face and a profile (1928)
17. Mid of A women in chair (1927)
18. SOUNDBITE: (English) Anne Baldassari, Director and Chief Curator, Picasso Museum, Paris:
''I think it is very interesting to find new routes for culture, too, new partnerships. Usually we work with MoMA and Tate or maybe with the National Gallery in Washington or Guggenheim, so it's a very small world. And with this exhibition, we have found a new world for Picasso.''
19. Various photographs of Picasso on display at exhibition
LEAD IN:
A world tour of an exhibition of works from the Picasso Museum in Paris has reached its final stop - the Croatian capital.
Pablo Picasso's paintings continue to cause controversy both on and off the canvas.
STORYLINE:
A collection of Pablo Picasso's artworks are settling into their new, temporary home at the Klovicevi Dvori exhibition space in Zagreb.
The travelling exhibition, which started in 2008, has had a full itinerary - from America and Russia to the Middle East and China.
It opened in Zagreb on 23 March this year.
Marina Viculin, head curator at the Klovicevi Dvori Museum, says it is one of the most important exhibitions ever to come to the Croatian capital.
We want to create a notion in this region, in this part of the world that we directly communicate with, that Zagreb could be one of the centres they go to. Just as we go to Vienna or Trieste, she says.
The work began in 2008 and is due to be completed later this year.
Baldassari says she is glad they have travelled so far.

Herausforderung Moderne. Wien und Zagreb um 1900 - Teaser
#WienZagreb Teaser zur Ausstellung Herausforderung Moderne. Wien und Zagreb um 1900“ im Belvedere, Wien. 20. Oktober 2017 bis 18. Februar 2018 -
#WienZagreb Teaser of the exhibition The Challenge of Modernism. Vienna and Zagreb around 1900“ at the 21er Haus, Vienna. 20 Oktober 2017 to 18 February 2018 -
In the years around 1900, the multi-ethnic realm of the Habsburg Monarchy experienced a lively exchange of art and culture between Vienna, its center, and the main cities of the Crown lands such as Zagreb. For the development of Croatian art around the turn of the century, this exchange was very significant.
In the exhibition, the connections and points of reference at the start of the twentieth century are presented by key works of Austrian and Croatian artists of that period.
Artists and architects who were trained in Vienna brought the new trends in art to Zagreb and, within 20 years, the overall character of cultural life at the time was fundamentally changed.
On show are works by Gustav Klimt, Koloman Moser, Carl Moll, Vlaho Bukovac, Ivan Meštrović, Robert Auer, Tomislav Krizman as well as other protagonists of the Viennese and Modernism.
The exhibition is a cooperation with the Klovićevi dvori Gallery, Zagreb, Croatia.
