Enjoy inspiring performances such as La Forza del Destino and Tosca at the Knoxville Opera Company; be captivated by the professional actors of the Clarence Brown Theatre; or catch a Shakespearean play, rock concert or art show at Market Square. Knoxville also holds numerous events and festivals throughout the year including the largest Labor Day fireworks display in the U.S. and a 17-day Dogwood Arts Festival. It also serves as host to an African American heritage festival called Kuumba and the Rossini Festival which celebrates Italian culture and opera. Most of the Finance and Insurance subsectors contain one or more industry groups of (1) intermediaries with similar patterns of raising and using funds and (2) establishments engaged in activities that facilitate, or are otherwise related to, that type of financial or insurance intermediation. Industries within this sector are defined in terms of activities for which a production process can be specified, and many of these activities are not exclusive to a particular type of financial institution. To deal with the varied activities taking place within existing financial institutions, the approach is to split these institutions into components performing specialized services. This requires defining the units engaged in providing those services and developing procedures that allow for their delineation.

Places to see in ( Knoxville - USA )
Places to see in ( Knoxville - USA )
Knoxville is a city on the Tennessee River in eastern Tennessee. Downtown, the Market Square district has 19th-century buildings with shops and restaurants. The Museum of East Tennessee History has interactive exhibits plus regional art, textiles and Civil War artifacts. James White’s Fort, built by the Revolutionary War captain, includes the reconstructed 1786 log cabin that was Knoxville’s first permanent building.
Knoxville is in Eastern Tennessee, United States. It is the third-largest city in the state. It is the home of the University of Tennessee's primary campus (UTK) and site of the 1982 World's Fair. Knoxville is on the Tennessee River about an hour from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Once called the 'scruffy little city', the downtown is undergoing a rapid renaissance as young people move into the lofts and apartments created from the factories and warehouses of another era. On any evening of the week, throngs of residents and visitors can be seen at the sidewalk cafes, theaters, restaurants and night clubs along Gay Street and Market Square. The University of Tennessee, with its 27,000 students, is within walking distance of the downtown, separated only by the World's Fair Park.
One can still see remnants of the 1982 World's Fair in the Sunsphere, a rising structure topped with a gold sphere which dots Knoxville's skyline, however, most of the other structures from the Fair were removed to create a large city park which attracts families, students, and artists on weekends and sunny days. The World's Fair brought a lot of attention and development to the city, including high-rise office structures, and the four-star Hilton, Crowne Plaza and Marriott hotels.
Knoxville is home to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, but the city seems dominated by the University of Tennessee Volunteers (men only) and Lady Volunteers athletics. The basketball teams play in the 21,000+ seat Thompson Boling Arena, and the nationally recognized football team plays in Neyland Stadium, one of the largest on-campus stadiums in the world at 103,000 seating capacity. During the fall you will find plenty of orange in the foliage, but you will see Big Orange year round with the people of Knoxville.
Dubbed a 'scruffy little city' by the Wall Street Journal before the 1982 World's Fair, Knoxville is strutting its stuff these days as an increasingly prominent and well-polished destination for outdoor, gastronomy and craft-beer enthusiasts. Knoxville is also home to the University of Tennessee and its rabid college-football fan base. On game days the whole town is painted orange as fans pack Neyland Stadium to watch the beloved Volunteers. But there's more to Knoxville than football. No longer content to play second fiddle to nearby Chattanooga and Asheville, the city – a former textiles production center – now touts itself as a base camp for visitors to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Sugarlands Visitor Center is just 29 miles away, and Knoxville is a far more enticing spot to eat and drink than other cities near the park. For hikers and mountain bikers, the city's ever-expanding Urban Wilderness is becoming its own reason to visit.

Mast general store 1982 worlds fair sun sphere Tennessee theater Knoxville
SMITTY TRAVELS to mast general store , the 1982 worlds fair sun sphere and the historic Tennessee theater Knoxville Tennessee in toy Store and More . lots of cool relics and sites..
The Knoxville store has been a retail landmark in Downtown Knoxville since 1898. The building was constructed after the Million Dollar Fire in 1897. The fire started in a nearby hotel and destroyed the entire block on our side of the street. The flames spread so fast and were so intense that the Chattanooga Fire Department was called in to assist. They put their pumper on a train that left for Knoxville approaching speeds of 90+ miles per hour.
When the building was rebuilt, it was home to the McNulty Grocery and Dry Goods Co.
In 1901 M. M. Newcomer's Department Store made the move from across the street into the building at 402 South Gay Street. It was one of Knoxville's bigger stores.
As an interesting aside to the history of the actual building, the Original Mast Store in Valle Crucis had a long relationship with Knoxville, which makes the store on Gay Street even more interesting. In perusing the invoices for goods purchased for the shelves from 1902 until 1920, numerous invoices had Knoxville addresses. One of the addresses is just down the street at what is now the Downtown Grill and Brewery. In the early 1900s, it was Woodruffs, a wholesale and retail house for all kinds of goods. There are also a number McClung Wholesale invoices. The McClung Warehouses are just a short drive from the store and are near the rail yard. Farm implements, barbed wire, and other items were stocked from this business.
In 1932, the Knox Dry Goods Store replaced M. M. Newcomers. Through the years it provided all kinds of goods and services including a beauty shop on the second floor. Knox Dry Goods modernized its name in 1954 becoming known as The Knox. It was a mainstay in the downtown area until 1977 when The Boston Store moved into the building.
In the late 1970s, many retailers had left downtown for the suburbs. The store was vacant until the White Grocery Store moved in in 1982 and operated until 1988. After that, the building was used for storage including sewing machines and all other items.
The Mast Store opened in August 2006.
1982 World's Fair
The 1982 World's Fair, formally known as the Knoxville International Energy Exposition, was held in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States. The specialized Expo themed Energy Turns the World, was recognized by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE).
It opened on May 1, 1982, and closed on October 31, 1982, after receiving over 11 million visitors. Participating nations included Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Panama, Peru, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States, and West Germany.
The fair was constructed on a 70-acre (280,000 m2) site between downtown Knoxville and the University of Tennessee. The core of the site primarily consisted of a deteriorating Louisville and Nashville Railroad yard and depot. The railroad yard was demolished, with the exception of a single rail line, and the depot was renovated into a restaurant. The Sunsphere, a 266-foot (81 m) steel tower topped with a five-story gold globe, was built for the 1982 World's Fair. It still stands and remains a symbol for the city of Knoxville.
In 2007, the East Tennessee Historical Society opened an exhibit commemorating the 25th anniversary of the World's Fair.

Kathleen Drevik Old City Review
Hello, I’m Kathleen Drevik of Knoxville, Tennessee and this video is a quick drive through of the Old City in Knoxville. The Old City of Knoxville only takes up a few blocks near the center of downtown but it has a rich and varied history. It started out as a saloon district and was the unofficial (and official-for a short while) red light district and was home to the highest concentration of saloons found anywhere in Knoxville. During the day, however, the are was much different. Home to many immigrants, it became a wholesale food area with shops manned by immigrants from Greece, Lithuania, Ireland, and all over Europe. The area was home to a large African American population and, for the most part, got along quite well, although there were some instances o0f interlopers not from the district trying to stir up trouble between the two groups.
Architecturally, the are is one of the best-preserved in Knoxville, with a number of the building built by the notable architectural form of Bauman and Bauman. Owing to its central location to the city and also its close proximity to the railroad, the area boomed and then was forgotten by urban planners thus leaving a large portion of the architectural legacy intact.
The term “Old City” came into use in the 1980s when the area saw a revival as an entertainment district (although much tamer than the days of saloon shootings and prostitution).
Today, it is host to lively array of restaurants and nightclubs that cater to well-heeled diners and college students. No matter where you fall on that spectrum, a trip top Knoxville’s Old City is well worth the effort.

Lane Kiffin fired: USC coach finally gets the sack
USC coach Lane Kiffin has finally been fired. Athletic director Pat Haden dismissed Kiffin after the Trojans lost 62-41 against Arizona State University. Ed Orgeron has been named interim coach.
The year hasn't started out well for USC. In the home opener, the Trojans notched up an embarrassing loss to the middling Washington State. USC has lost 7 of the past 11 games, leading fans to chant Fire Kiffin. Fire Kiffin at games.
The dismissal shouldn't have come as a surprise to Kiffin. The 62 points given up in the Arizona game ties a previous record. Haden waited until the team was back in Los Angeles and informed Kiffin of his decision at 3am at the team's private airport terminal. Kiffin reportedly attempted to change Haden's mind, but Haden couldn't be swayed.
The season didn't get off to a great start for Kiffin. USC lost its home opener game to the Washington State Cougars, a team it should have handily beat. This unsettled USC fans and alumni.
The job of keeping the team together until an interim coach can be found now falls to Ed Orgeron, is long-time friend of Kiffin. The two coached together at Tennessee. As the head coach of Ole Miss, Orgeron had a 10-25 record.
