Welcome to Aotani 2 ~The Kobe City Museum of Literature~
We made a second movie about Kobe City Museum of Literature, located near the Kobe Oji Zoo. This museum is the oldest wooden chapel in Kobe and was converted into a museum in 2006. The interior was designed like a chapel, for example, it has a high ceiling, uncommon floor, and so on. You can see that some of the outer wall bricks are rather dark and old. They were burdened in World War II. So you can get a sense of a history by looking at the exterior and interior.

ROUTE DIRECTIONS:
Disclaimer: The directions only represent my personal experience. I accept no responsibility for any losses or injuries resulting from following these directions. Hike safe!
Get off at Oji-koen station, walk west along the wall of the park, past the zoo entrance, and turn right at the Museum of Literature. Walk straight ahead up the hill all the way to the end of the (increasingly narrow) road, then cross the bridge to your right, and you’ll reach the hike’s starting point. (Get directions to here: )
Go up the slope to the left, and the hiking trail begins. Walk up and up the concrete slope, cross a few bridges over the stream, and keep following the signs to 摩耶山頂. Warning: there are lots of steps..!
Near the top, at the last ruins, turn left and wrap around to the shrine on top of the mountain, then go straight ahead over the hill, down the slope, to the road. Turn right, and you’re at the top. Enjoy the view!
Coming down, head back down the road towards the path you arrived on, and go down the stairs to your left. Follow the path down, turn left at the junction (look for the 摩耶ケーブル下 signs), then follow the signs all the way down… It’s a little confusing at 2 intersections: at one, you have to turn right and go UP the stairs (even though it feels like the wrong way), and then a minute later, you have to go DOWN the stairs and cross the river (even though the path looks very small). Then climb the stairs when you reach a small dam, down the other side, and you’re done! (End hike point: ). It’s an easy 15 minute walk back to Oji-koen station.

Kobe earthquake simulator in The Natural History Museum
The Great Hanshin earthquake, or Kobe earthquake, occurred on Tuesday, January 17, 1995, at 05:46 JST (January 16 at 20:46 UTC) in the southern part of Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. It measured 6.8 on the moment magnitude scale (USGS),[2] and Mj7.3 (adjusted from 7.2) on JMA magnitude scale.[3] The tremors lasted for approximately 20 seconds. The focus of the earthquake was located 16 km beneath its epicenter,[3] on the northern end of Awaji Island, 20 km away from the city of Kobe.
Approximately 6,434 people lost their lives (final estimate as of December 22, 2005); about 4,600 of them were from Kobe.[1] Among major cities, Kobe, with its population of 1.5 million, was the closest to the epicenter and hit by the strongest tremors. This was Japan's worst earthquake in the 20th century after the Great Kantō earthquake in 1923, which claimed 140,000 lives. It caused approximately ten trillion yen ($100 billion) in damage, 2.5% of Japan's GDP at the time.
