Starting a Brewery in Alaska
Owning their own brewery was a way for the Gerteisens to do what they were passionate about and create a community in the small town of Palmer, Alaska. Their work with the SBDC helped them connect to others in the small business community and make sure they were ready for opening day! Visit aksbdc.org for more info!

MANY parents struggle to maintain discipline in their home. But spare a thought for Jim and Susan Kowalczik whose main charge is a huge 1400lb Kodiak brown bear. The couple look after the 9ft giant at their orphanage where they have dedicated their lives to rescuing and releasing injured animals. They now care for 11 bears, including Kodiak brown bears, Syrian bears and black bears on their 100 acre estate in Otisville, New York. Most were rescued as cubs from breeding programs or nature reserves that closed down.

Alaska 2018 - 33 [whales, sea otters, glaciers, & more in Seward]
Time to leave Hope behind and head to Seward. See more details and still photos on our blog post:
Iditarod Campground
In Seward we lucked out at an awesome spot right on Resurrection Bay and a short walk to the little downtown area. No hook-ups but the views were amazing! $20/night.
The first day was dreary but then the skies cleared up and we could see the mountains all around us.
Every day we saw sea otters float by the front of our RV. That doesn’t happen everywhere!
In the little downtown area we found delicious vegan food options at Seward Brewing Company. A couple more restaurants seemed to also have options.
If you need to restock on unusual ingredients, there’s a nice natural foods store there as well.
Kenai Fjords Tours
Seward is another great place to get on a boat and go look for wildlife and glaciers. We were hoping for orcas but didn’t see any. We did see humpback whales, sea lions, Dall’s porpoise, puffins, and so many glaciers.

GRIZZLY BEAR ATTACK!
Please SUBSCRIBE NOW!
With jaws powerful enough to crush a bowling ball, The Grizzly Bear is definitely a force of nature that commands respect. Luckily human encounters with them in the wild are rare due to their remote wilderness habitat… However make no mistake, they do happen and being prepared on how to react can mean the difference between life and death.
In this episode of Breaking Trail, Coyote Peterson will show you first hand of what to do and NOT do in the event that you ever stumble upon one of these beautiful animals. He will do this using the aid of a 750lb male Grizzly Bear who is an ambassador for his species; helping people learn more about why these bears need to be respected and admired, not feared.
This is one episode that you have to see to believe – Coyote is going toe to claw with a Grizzly Bear!
*This video has won an Emmy Award in the teen/youth program category. Thanks to the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for this honor.
Breaking Trail leaves the map behind and follows adventurer and animal enthusiast Coyote Peterson and his crew as they explore a variety of wildlife in the most amazing environments throughout North America!
