Kodiveri Waterfalls is a Perfect Destination For Summer
Kodiveri Dam, is located on the Bhavani River near Gobichettipalayam in Western Tamil Nadu. The dam is situated along the State Highway 15 about 10 km (6.2 mi) from Gobichettipalayam towards Sathyamangalam.
It was constructed by the Maharaja of Mysore in the 17th century, with a workforce that combined the labor of elephants and his prisoners.Creating the dam consisted of carving a 20-foot wall of rock. The stones were then interlocked with iron bars and lead was used as mortar. These features, however, are not visible except in the dry season when the water level in the river drops considerably. Two channels arise from the dam, one is on the northern side of Bhavani River and the other on the southern side viz “Arakkan Kottai Channel” and “Thadapalli Channel” respectively. Lands north of Gobichettipalayam are fertile due to the flow of the Thadapalli channel. Cultivation of sugarcane and paddy are predominant in this area.The lush green fields are also a pleasure to watch.

So we completed the trek in velliyangiri and body was absolute tired so we planned to goto Kodiveri dam which is amazing place to bath as per the local people. so we decided to take the avinashi road and reached gobichettipalayam it will take around 2 hrs to reach the place from coimbatore but no worries roads are good and u will get tender cocunut and juices in the road side shop.
We reaced the place yes the flow of water was amazing and it was like festival so much crowd and yes we enjoyed the place.
definetly worth going and post bathing u will get an amazing fish fries for low price that is the must try.

At a distance of 75 Kms from Coimbatore and 70 Kms from Erode, Kodiveri Dam & Waterfalls is a wonderful picnic spot situated near Satyamangalam in Erode district -20 Kms from Bannari Mariamman Temple. The Waterfalls formed by the downstream of Kodiveri Dam is a wonderful spot. Since the falls are not heavy, anyone can easily reach bottom of the falls and enjoy.

Creating the dam consisted of carving a 20-foot wall of rock.

Bhavanisagar dam is constructed on the Bhavani River.
The dam receives water from two main catchment areas in the Western Ghats.
The water is fed into the Bhavani river known as Upper Bhavani.
The eastern catchment area includes the Upper Bhavani, Avalanche and Emerald lakes, Kundha, Gedhai, Pillur and Nellithurai.
The western catchment area includes Portimund, Parson’s valley,Pykara,Glenmorgan,Chinkara,Maravakandy,Moyar and Thengumarahatta.
The dam is fed by both Southwest and Northeast monsoons.
The dam feeds water into two canals, Lower Bhavani Project Canal and Kalingarayan Canal.
The Kalingarayan canal feeds Thadapalli and Arakkankottai channels and the LBP canal feeds the Thadapalli and Arakankottaichannels.

Siruvani Waterfalls and the dam named after them are located 35 km (22 mi) west of Coimbatore in the Western Ghats. The reservoir at Siruvani was built for Tamil Nadu by the Kerala government
with funds collected by the Tamil Nadu government to meet the drinking water requirements of Coimbatore. The name 'Kodiveri' is originated from 'Kodivari' in Tamil meaning Tiger, which represents the forest area around the Dam where large number of tigers lived.
It was constructed by Kongalvan in the year 1125 AD.Creating the dam consisted of carving a 20-foot wall of rock. The stones were then interlocked with iron bars and lead was used as mortar. These features, however, are not visible except in the dry season when the water level in the river drops considerably.
The dam is built on the Bhavani river. Two channels arise from the dam, Arakkankottai on the northern side of Bhavani river and Thadapalli on the southern side.
Lands north of Gobichettipalayam are irrigated by Thadapalli channel and cultivation of sugarcane and paddy are predominant in this area. The dam irrigates an area of 24,504 acres.
