Ko Kret, Nonthaburi, Bangkok - Thailand 4K Travel Channel
Ko Kret, an island in the Chao Phraya River, lies approximately 20 km north of central Bangkok .By minibus we drive to the ferry that brings us to the island. At the north eastern tip of the island, a white leaning Chedi catches the eye. It's Phra Chedi Mu Dao, the symbol of the island. The river has undermined the foundation, so that the sanctuary leans dangerously to the side.
The island has no natural origin. About 200 years ago the tribe the Mon settled here. The bend of the river bend was joined by a channel which was continually rinsed out, so that the river bend has become an island today. The island is 9 square kilometers in size and can be explored on foot or by bicycle. Alternatively, one can make a trip around the island by boat.
The island alone has 6 temples. The most important is the Wat Poramai with the leaning Chedi.
However, Ko Kret is known for its ceramics and its market. After we have tasted some freshly prepared delights, we try to get an initial overview. But this is not so easy, as the market leads straight along the water.
At one stall, we buy an anti-mosquito spray. The seller gave me some money back and I did not pay further attention. When we are already several metres away she comes after me and gives me another 400 Bath, because I have paid with 500. We have not expected so much honesty here!
In general the market is a little rural and differs from the markets in Bangkok, where one struggles for every centimeter of space. Here is still a bit homely.
Another saleswoman used her cat for promotional purposes. The cat in the basket was the perfect mean for advertising the products.
We see some fish and turtles in baskets. At first we suspect that they are offered for a meal. But then we see that a man buys some of them and releases them into the water of the river. (Where the sellers presumably catch them again. Well, we do not have to understand everything.)
A few meters further, a talking bird welcomes the passing tourists; however, in Thai. We were told that it means ? Good day, how are you

Whats up guys, as stated, we are at Koh Kret a small island located just a little ways off the outskirts of Bangkok known for its chill vibes, their handmade clay pottery, and their amazing bike routes which I spent a whole day putting together in a music montage but lets knock out the logistics part of this vlog first so you can also come here and experience it for yourself.
Now there are actually several ways you can get here but you’ll first need to head to a ferry point to take you into koh kret. We took the ferry across the river from a a temple facing the island called Wat Sanam Nuea.
I am sure I totally butchered the pronunciation but you should be able to google map it based on the spelling below and get lost after missing a turn that eventually had us detouring 3 kms before we could finally U turn. No intersections, it’s a Bangkok thing you’ll understand when you get here.
If you’re new to Bangkok however, I recommend you take a cab and I can’t see the fare costing more than 10 dollars.
As for the ferry, it was only 10 Baht each way, and once you’re on the Island I highly recommend you rent a bicycle to get around. This will cost you 50 baht which is about a $1.50 and you’ll need check in your passport but I was able to just check in my Thai Driver’s License.
So now that the logistics are out of the way, I present to you Koh Kret
So for some reason we initially couldn’t find any OTOP stores and only ran into this cool looking local candy shop where we bought an ice cream bar and this other pottery store with a NO OTOP sign on the door. We suspect that many stores weren’t open because we came on a weekday.
We eventually we hit a dead end and on the way back some lady told us the direction we were going was wrong and routed us away from the main road to her daughter’s store which was an OTOP store. Felt a bit deceived but she led us to an OTOP store that we would never have found so I guess it worked out.
So guy this concludes our Koh Kret vlog. As you saw, it isn’t a tropical island paradise and technically its located in Nontaburi which is on the outskirts of Bangkok. However, when I went there, I only ran into about 3-4 other tourists so I highly recommend Koh Kret to anyone who wants insight into the real authentic local life here without having to travel too far away from Bangkok.
Thank you so much for checking out the vlog and a big thank you to all the new subscribers! I really want to bring you guys more informative, interesting, and entertaining content so please feel free to comment below any suggestions about what you might want to see in our future vlogs.
