Featuring Lake Ashinoko & Owakudani
Lake Ashinoko, also referred to as Hakone Lake or Lake Ashi, is a scenic lake in the Hakone area of Kanagawa Prefecture. It is a crater lake that lies along the southwest wall of the caldera of Mount Hakone, a complex volcano that last erupted at Ōwakudani.
Hakone Sightseeing Boats and Izuhakone Sightseeing Boats, operate boats between Moto-Hakone and Hakone-machi at the lake's southern shores and Togendai and Kojiri at the lake's northern end.
Ōwakudani is a volcanic valley with active sulphur vents and hot springs in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Formed 3000 years ago as a result of Hakone Volcano eruption. The Black Egg sold at shops in Ōwakudani is said to add seven years to your life if you eat one.
Note: Due to volcanic gases, the walking and hiking trails around Owakudani are currently closed to tourists. If you have respiratory problems, it is advised that you avoid the area due to the volcanic gases.
