Iolani Palace - Honolulu in the U.S
Iolani Palace, in the capitol district of downtown Honolulu in the U.S. state of Hawai?i, is the only royal palace now a part of the United States. It was used as an official residence of the reigning Hawaiian sovereign and is now a National Historic Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Two monarchs governed from ?Iolani Palace: King Kalakaua and Queen Lili?uokalani, although Kamehameha III, IV, V, and William Charles Lunalilo had their main residences here as well. After the monarchy was overthrown in 1893, the building was used as the capitol building for the Provisional Government, Republic, Territory, and State of Hawai?i until 1969. The palace was restored and opened to the public as a museum in 1978.

Oahu Island is home to roughly one million people - about two-thirds of the population of the U.S. state of Hawaii. The city of Honolulu, largest city, state capital, and main deepwater marine port for the State of Hawaiʻi is located here.
Well-known features found on Oʻahu include Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Hanauma, Kaneʻohe Bay, Kailua Bay, North Shore.
I spent five days on Oahu Island, drove 340 miles by car and visited, incl. the places described below. My hotel was in Honolulu.

Koko Head Crater Hike | Traveling Vlog | Nepali Brewboy Channel
Please watch: Waikiki Beach Walk Hawaii | Nepali BrewBoy Channel
-~-~~-~~~-~~-~
Koko Crater Trail hike is a 1.8 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Honolulu, HI that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible year-round.
A steep climb to the top of Koko Head Crater with spectacular views in every direction Koko Head Trail is one of those trails where you ask yourself, Why am I doing this?
Park in the lot and walk along the road to the trail, which is a 200 feet from the parking lot. The trail goes straight up the stairs midway up must cross trestle, which is dangerous if you misstep. This will get the heart pumping and is not for those with bad knees. Take WATER! and a camera! Great for training, lots of athletes use this for workouts, but the views of Koko Crater and surrounding area are spectacular. Crowded on weekends. Note there is another way up to the top via the ocean side ridge trail... past Hanauma Bay.
The step-like walking track are the ties of an abandoned railway that runs along the crater's west side. This is one of the best trails leading to Puu Mai, the craters highest peak. The ties were for an incline tram used by the military during World War II, to transport personnel and supplies to a lookout post on the summit. Access to this trail starts at Koko Head Park in Hawaii Kai.
The first part of the hike is over a newly landscaped hill behind Goeas Baseball Field to the bottom of the old rail track. Its an exhausting trip. But the real fun is still to come. Your next mission is a trek up the 1,000-plus steps to the top of Koko crater. The reward? A panoramic view of the east Honolulu shorelinenot to mention one heck of a workout. A note of caution: Parts of the decades-old railway trail are in disrepair, possibly unsafe and recommended for experienced hikers only. If you do go, prepare accordingly and proceed with caution.
You'll find tips from The Division of State Parks for preparing for similar hikes here. The view from the top is breathtaking. You can, on a clear day, see all three Islands and the other side of Koko crater.

Honolulu, on the island of Oahu’s south shore, is capital of Hawaii and gateway to the U.S. island chain. The Waikiki neighborhood is its center for dining, nightlife and shopping, famed for its iconic crescent beach backed by palms and high-rise hotels, with volcanic Diamond Head crater looming in the distance. Sites relating to the World War II attack on Pearl Harbor include the USS Arizona Memorial.
The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. ALOHA TOWER
Located on the Honolulu Harbor in Downtown Honolulu, about 15 minutes west of Waikiki, Aloha Tower is an iconic symbol of Hawai‘i. Aloha Tower is the most recognized building in the state of Hawai‘i, second only to Diamond Head as its most famous landmark.
Built in September of 1926, Aloha Tower was the tallest building in the islands for four decades, offering spectacular views of the harbor and housing an observatory and lookout station for harbor pilots. Its lighthouse served as a navigation landmark that could be seen from 15 miles at sea, while its clock was one of the largest in the United States. The tower stood as a welcoming beacon for visitors when travel to O‘ahu was done entirely by sea, serving as Honolulu’s “Statue of Liberty.” Duke Kahanamoku even set his first swimming world record at Pier 7, and the wharf was also known for Boat Days, a lively celebration to welcome the arrival of visiting ships.
For a period of time during World War II, the U.S. military took control of the tower, painting it in brown and green camouflage and shutting off its beacon to minimize detection. Patrols by Army sentries didn’t end until the camouflage was sandblasted off in 1947; the Aloha Tower reopened in 1948 in its original glory as one solid color.

Koko Crater Botanical Garden, Koko Head, Oahu, Hawaii GoPro Hero3 Black Edition
Koko Crater Botanical Garden is a 60-acre basin inside the landmark Koko Crater on the eastern end of the island of Oahu. The hot, dry climate here makes this garden the ideal location for the dryland collections of the Honolulu Botanical Gardens.
The garden is still in the early stages of development, therefore, restroom facilities, drinking fountains and other visitor accommodations have not yet been constructed.
For your safety, please wear walking shoes and exercise caution on the unpaved roads and trails. Bicycles and motor vehicles are not permitted and dogs are not allowed on the grounds.

Hawaii Vlog of our 5 Day Vacation trip to Hawaii. Real time video and time lapse of the amazing Oahu Island
The Island of Oahu is the stateâs most populated island in Hawaii. From rich, historical sites to off-the-map tourist treasures, visitors here will find a near endless supply of scenic beauty and exciting activities to enjoy. .
Oahuâs most visible landmarks: 761-foot-tall Diamond Head, located on Waikikiâs eastern border, is a âtuff cone,â formed some 100,000 years ago when an eruption of volcanic ash eventually hardened into solid rock. Southeast Oahuâs Koko Head and downtown Honoluluâs Punchbowl are also tuff cones.
Vastly influenced by its reputation as a world-class travel destination, Oahu offers more of everything than the other Islands combined. Shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities here far eclipse those of neighbor islands. And visitor traffic, drawn to the island by its enticing beaches, big winter waves, super-sized collection of scenic golf courses and signature attractions â Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, the Polynesian Cultural Center â continues to exceed any neighbor island.
Walking tours of downtown Honolulu, Waikiki or Chinatown, as well as a visit to Pearl Harbor, are a good way to get in touch with the islandâs unique past.
Many of Oahuâs most popular attractions are located outside the city. Hanauma Bay, a world-renown snorkeling destination, is a short drive from Waikiki, just past Hawaii Kai. Sea Life Park is not far from Hanauma Bay. The Polynesian Cultural Center, a unique and perennially popular attraction, is located in LaÊ»ie, more than an hourâs drive from Honolulu. Kualoa Ranch, near Kaneohe, Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park, near Kapolei, and the Arizona Memorial, the biggest visitor draw in the state, are all outside the city of Honolulu.
