Walking in Kolkata ( Calcutta)
Kolkata known historically in English as Calcutta is the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal. Located on the east bank of the Hooghly river, it is the principal commercial, cultural, and educational centre of East India, while the Port of Kolkata is India's oldest operating port as well as its sole major riverine port. As of 2011, the city had 4.5 million residents; the urban agglomeration, which comprises the city and its suburbs, was home to approximately 14.1 million, making it the third-most populous metropolitan area in India.

The city was a colonial city developed by the British East India Company and then by the British Empire. Calcutta, India
We have made our way to Calcutta, the center of all that is chaotic and crazy in the world. Every second is pure insanity, my eyes can't keep up with the movement.
A wild mixture of modern and traditional, Calcutta is perhaps the greatest location in the world for people watching. At night, when the temperatures drop, Indians and tourists take to the streets.
Strolling the filthy, steamy city, one cannot help being drawn into the manic sense of euphoria when the city comes alive. Night markets, street vendors, flashing neon signs, and hand-drawn rickshaws racing with yellow Ambassador taxis. It's like performance art on the largest scale imaginable!

Rickshaw Ride in Kolkata, India (Calcutta) - Pulled Rickshaw
This is a travel video from my rickshaw ride in Kolkata, India. Formerly known as Calcutta, the city is known for its unique human powered rickshaws and yellow cabs. In this video you can see me pass numerous different areas in the city including other rickshaws, yellow cabs and markets. I really enjoyed my trip and my driver was very pleasant so I gave him a nice tip for his services. This type of rickshaw is called a pulled rickshaw.

A pulled rickshaw (or ricksha) is a mode of human-powered transport by which a runner draws a two-wheeled cart which seats one or two persons. Rickshaws are commonly made with bamboo. In recent times the use of rickshaws has been discouraged or outlawed in many countries due to concern for the welfare of rickshaw workers.[1] Runner-pulled rickshaws have been replaced mainly by cycle rickshaws and auto rickshaws. The term rickshaw is today commonly used for those vehicles as well:

Calcutta traffic and construction from 1970's: archival footage of modern day Kolkata
1970's imagery from Calcutta city. Construction goes on atop a new multi-storeyed building location while the city moves ahead at its own pace. Yellow taxi cabs on the street and ancient-looking buses ply the streets of Calcutta.
The Victoria Memorial looks as grand as ever, from afar. Hindustan Ambassador cars and Fiat taxis rule the roost.
What's that car right at the end of the clip? Doesn't it looks suspiciously like a Lotus sports car?
