Koloa Rum Tasting Room & Store at Kilohana Planation - KVIC-TV, myKauai.com
Okole Maluna. Nanea Marston interviews Nikki Munroe and tours Koloa Rum's tasting room and store at Kilohana Plantation in Lihue.
From KoloaRum.com: Kōloa Rum Company produces the finest, award winning, premium, single-batch Hawaiian Rums at their distillery near the town of Kalaheo, on the beautiful Garden Isle of Kaua`i, Hawaii.
All of our rum is made from pure Kauai sugarcane that we purchase from the westside of our island. This water is coming directly out of our mountains through a filtration system.
We have a store full of lots of good stuff, starting off with our famous rum cake, which everyone comes here to get. We follow it up with our spiced rum nuts. We then move on to some salts that we include the Koloa Rum in. Male and female t-shirts are also available.

The Grove Farm Sugar Cane Train In Kauai!!!
Watch in HD!!!
On August 1, 2014, during the first day of the Wilcox Family reunion in Kauai that I attended, my aunt along with some cousins got to organize an event with the Grove Farm Museum's Historical locomotive that runs on 1,800 feet of the original Lihue Plantation Railroad Right-Of-Way. This was really fun because this is the only authentic sugar plantation steam train experience in the state. In this video, you will see engineer Scott Johnson getting the train ready for it's trip, some rail switching, the train attaching to the sugar cane cars, and parts of the trip, including the train crossing over a stone bridge that is over one hundred years old. Information about some of the history of the locomotives you will see to follow:
Wainiha: This is the locomotive that they used on this trip. This is a Baldwin 0-6-2T that weights 28 tons and was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1915. It was built for the McBryde Sugar Company, and then bought by Grove Farm in 1956. On September 24, 1957, it was the last steam locomotive to haul sugar cane to the mill in Hawaiian Sugar history. It is named Wainiha which is a stream on the North Shore of Kauai. It was restored by Miss Mabel Wilcox in 1975. This locomotive pulled 50 to 60 sugar cane cars alone, and was featured in the 2000 World War II movie To End All Wars.
Paulo: You will see this locomotive a little after the beginning being pushed back to the shed. Paulo is the oldest surviving plantation locomotive in Hawaii today. It was manufactured at the Hohenzollern Works in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1887, and shipped to the Koloa Sugar Company. It was named after Mr. Paul Isenberg who's the owner of Lihue Plantation and a officer of the Koloa Sugar Company. This locomotive weights 10 tons and can pull 50 tons of sugar cane. It was in use until 1920, and then restored by the Grove Farm Museum in 1981. This train also made an appearance in the 2000 film To End All Wars.
Interesting enough, both of these locomotives were almost bought by Disney for $500 a piece, before Miss Mabel Wilcox decided to buy them and restore them to what they are today.
If you would like to ride one of these authentic sugar cane trains, Grove Farm does a monthly fire up every second Thursday of the month. It is free of charge.
Please feel free to like, comment, and/or leave feedback as it is greatly appreciated. Enjoy The Video & Thanks For Watching!!!!

Carole & Mikaila Kauai Trip 2019
SEE BELOW FOR PLACES & COMPANIES WE USED IS IN THE VIDEO
My mom and I went to Kauai this year for the holiday season to get away, and let me tell you that this place is actual paradise. We were fortunate enough to get to do so many things and saw almost everything I wanted to while there. Below are the things seen in the video, and the companies we booked each of the excursions through.
00:24- Drive up Waimea Canyon and stop at multiple of the lookout points along the drive.
00:59- Helicopter ride over most of the main sights in Kauai. This was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip! We booked with Sunshine helicopters.
02:03- Stopped at a beach on the west side of the island Kekaha beach. It rained a lot while we were there but the locals let us in on a secret that when all the rest of the island is rainy, the west side is almost always dry so we stopped of at the beach there multiple times.
02:28- I can't rave enough about how fun this tubing excursion was!!! We went on a day that was a bit rainy but that didn't take away from how awesome it was. It was booked through Kauai Backcountry Adventures.
03:25- It was POURING rain but it didn't stop us from going on the awesome biplane tour through the Kauai mountains. We booked with Skyline Eco-Adventures, they were awesome and the scenery was breathtaking
04:45- Walking along the beach in Kapa'a!
05:06- When going to Hawaii you have to get the Hawaiian experience and go to a Luau. We went to the one at the Grand Hyatt and it was so much fun. The tickets are quite pricey so be warned, but the food was incredible and the performances were amazing!
05:33- The kayak and hike to the secret falls was one of my favorite days on the trip. You rent a kayak at Kamokila Hawaiian village, be warned that the kayak rentals sell out super super quickly so make sure to be there right when they open. you kayak up the river a little ways, park the kayak on the sand, and the hike to the secret falls. The hike is pretty crazy because you are going through rivers and the trail gets super muddy, but boy is the end view worth it!!!!
07:34- Day at Hanalei Bay and surf town! This is a super popular part of the island because there are a ton of cute shops, eateries, an a nice calm bay where you can paddle board and walk out onto the pier.
08:29- visit to Maniniholo Dry Cave and walk along tunnels beach!
09:01- Awaawapuhi Trail in koke'e state park! This was definitely a challenging hike, but the view at the end was absolutely breathtaking!!!
09:27- Catameran Snorkeling cruise with the company Captain Andy's. The sailors were incredible on this cruise! I can't rave enough about their professionalism, and just being down right awesome! The food on the trip was so good too, and I got to SWIM WITH SEA TURTLES!!!!!! A huge highlight of the trip for me!
A few honorary mentions that didn't make it into the video but were amazing are:
-Snorkeling at Poipu beach
-Snorkeling at Anini Beach
-Kapa'a for their food trucks(especially the shaved ice) and little shopping

Pietro's Pizza, Kauai, Hawaii, Best Pizza on Kauai
from:
If you are looking for great pizza on Kauai, you need to check out Pietro’s Pizza.
They are located at the Harbor Mall in Lihue on 3501 Rice Street.
You can discover a wide variety of New York style pizza as well as authentic Neapolitan pizza cooked in an actual wood fired oven. Pietro’s is the first (and as far as I know), only certified Neapolitan pizzeria in the entire state of Hawaii.
I recommend the Don, which is an authentic New York style pizza.
I was astounded at the taste of this simple cheese slice. Hey I thought I was in New York.
Don’t limit yourself to just one taste as there are many other pizza asventures to choose from: Maybe you want to sample a cousin of the Don, The Don Ho which is made with Portuguese sausage and kalua pig. Or maybe another relative: the Don Pietro: straight, pepperoni which as you know is an American classic.
In my experience a pizza place is only as good as the pizza maker or pizzaiolo who lovingly creates the pizza by hand.
Tommy Iannucci moved to Kauai in the 80’s and was distressed to find he could not get a decent slice of his favorite food: pizza.
He went on a pizza quest and made the commitment to learn to make great pizza. At first it was at home in his kitchen, then he built a brick oven in his driveway. He began by making pizza for friends, family, neighbors and anyone else who loved pizza. He made lots of pizzas and most importantly he shared them.
Not satisfied with his skills, he traveled the world learning the craft. As Tommy explains he visited known and unknown pizzerias. He trained in New York, Rome, Las Vegas and even trained in Naples under pizza master Enzo Croccia. The result of his quest was to bring great pizza to the Island of Kauai and create his own pizzeria.
Tommy named Pietro’s Pizza after his grandfather and brother. They are both sadly gone but their spirit and love of all things Italian and pizza lives on at Pietro’s.
Now you too, can enjoy a little slice of New York and authentic Neapolitan pizza on the beautiful Island of Kauai.
Check out Pietro’s at the Harbor Mall in Lihue, 3051 Rice Street. The phone number is (808) 245-2266. Open daily 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM Monday through Saturday. Love Life, Eat Pizza, Have Fun at Pietro’s Pizza.
