Pasjača beach near Dubrovnik is one of the most stunning beaches on the Adriatic. This sandy beach is in the Konavle region, below the village of Popovići, 30km from Dubrovnik and towards the border with Montenegro.
The beach isn't a natural one. It was formed during World War Two when tunnels were dug in surrounding villages and the surplus stones then created a beach. The sea wore down the stones and made a beautiful beach which shyly emerges from the giant Konavle cliffs. Unfortuantely, the ebach is disappearing because the sea is eroding the sand. For that reason, if you don't visit soon, you probably won't ever see it - unless someone unloads a new lot of stone. You reach the beach by steep steps on the cliff side and at parts will pass through dug out tunnels. At the top of the steps you'll find a car park so you don't have to worry about where to leave your car.

If you ask anyone what springs to mind when they hear the name Croatia, the chances are they'll say „Dubrovnik, as this beautiful city deservedly basks in worldwide fame. Its main attraction, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the complex of city walls encircling a city of spellbinding beauty. If you visit at the height of summer, it's likely you'll spot a celeb or two in Dubrovnik, but it's equally likely you'll get to know the city itself less well: while the Old Town is heaving with people, you'll miss the vista of the shining paving stones of Stradun, the main street of the Old Town. Once you've done the obligatory tour of the main sights, we highly recommend a visit to the Dubrovnik Art Gallery which organises an international exhibition every year, and the local museums where you'll get to know the history of the city. Visiting the local towns and villages is a must if you spend your holiday in Dubrovnik. Konavle, the hinterland region, offers the chance to get to know the folk customs of the region and its traditional cuisine, and the town of Cavtat is a picturesque gem where you'll find the family home of the artist Vlaho Bukovac (1855-1922), one of Croatia's finest painters. Out to sea, you can visit the green islet of Lokrum just of Dubrovnik's shore, the tiny, sleepy Elafiti islands and, if you can fit it all in, the islands of Mljet and Korcula which are another story altogether.

Siege of Dubrovnik
The Siege of Dubrovnik was a military engagement fought between the Yugoslav People's Army and Croatian forces defending the city of Dubrovnik and its surroundings during the Croatian War of Independence. The JNA started its advance on 1 October 1991 and by late October had captured virtually all of the territory between the Pelješac and Prevlaka peninsulas on the coast of the Adriatic Sea—except for Dubrovnik itself. The JNA attacks and bombardment of Dubrovnik, including the Old Town—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—culminated on 6 December 1991. The bombardment provoked strong international condemnation of the JNA and became a public relations disaster for Serbia and Montenegro, contributing to their diplomatic and economic isolation and the international recognition of the independence of Croatia. In May 1992, the JNA pulled back from Dubrovnik to Bosnia and Herzegovina, less than 1 kilometre from the coast in some places, and east of the city to hand over its equipment to the newly formed Army of Republika Srpska. During this time, the Croatian Army attacked from the west and pushed back the JNA/VRS from the areas west of Dubrovnik, both in Croatia and in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and by the end of May linked up with the HV unit defending the city. Fighting between the HV and the Yugoslav troops east of Dubrovnik gradually died down.
The siege and a naval blockade by the Yugoslav Navy caused the deaths of between 82 and 88 Croatian civilians and 194 Croatian military personnel. The JNA suffered 165 fatalities. By the end of 1992, when the entire region was recaptured by the HV in Operation Tiger and the Battle of Konavle, 417 HV troops had been killed. The offensive displaced 15,000 refugees—mainly from Konavle—who fled to Dubrovnik. Approximately 16,000 refugees were evacuated from Dubrovnik by sea and the city was resupplied by blockade-evading runabouts and a convoy of civilian vessels. 11,425 buildings suffered a degree of damage and numerous homes, businesses, and public buildings were looted or torched by the JNA.

Serbian army damages the city,devastating historical fortress-protected monument , killing civilians in the city .
Attacks are run down at September, 1992 when the Croatian army defended the city from the attack of Serbian and Montenegrin army.
In the city there were many civilians, many buildings were destroyed.
Final peace came in 1995 when the Croatian army defeated the aggressor in the military operation Storm and bring peace not only to Dubrovnik but stop the war in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The production of silk was a traditional activity among the Konavle women and the knowledge of thir specific embrodery was past on through history from generation to generation between grandmothers, mothers and daughters. Taking care of the silk worm was a continuous obligation throughout the year for the women of Konavle.

Family Farm Household Novaković
The rural house Čilipi is partly several hundred years old and some parts have been added over centuries to the present state. Since 2000 it has become a part of the household situated in the charming rural setting which gives you an idea of an ancient village life.
Most of the products on the table are grown on our own soil and you are welcome to take a walk around our vegetable garden as well as our stable for domestic animals, a small museum with some ethno exhibits of the Konavle region, a tavern with a wine cellar and a selling room with displayed products.
Konavle County House
Konavle County House was founded in 1974, thanks to the selfless efforts and enthusiasm of prominent education and tourism workers in Čilipi and people of Konavle in general. A building that used to be the village treasury, located in the central square, now treasures the ethnological fortune of Konavle, displayed in the ambience of a typical Konavle house. In 1991, the House was burned and a significant portion of the inventory was irreparably lost. The collection now holds about 500 items such as male and female folk costumes of the highest quality, embroidery and other textile handcrafts, jewellery, arms, musical instruments and items used in the everyday life.
