On July 1st, as the first part of the CCF 2019 Korean Culture Experience Program, the delegates visited the Korea Furniture Museum.
This museum displays Korean traditional wooden furniture, boasting more than 2,500 pieces of traditional Korean furniture displayed in 10 hanoks (traditional Korean houses).
In the museum, the delegates were able to feel the Korean traditional beauty even better thanks to the performance of sorikkun Lee Hee-moon.
Delegates also visited a small secret garden “Seongnagwon”, where they had time to escape the busy life of Seoul and relax in nature
[Secret Korea - Seoul] Ep. 23 Seongbuk-dong / YTN (Yes! Top News)
In Seoul, there is a place you can find
the essence of traditional Korean culture.
Being filled with history
and culture at every corner,
the whole neighborhood will seem
like at museum in Seongbuk-dong.
The Korea Furniture Museum is located
in Seongbuk-dong at the foot of Bugak Mountain.
Once you enter, it will feel like
going back to the Joseon era
as all the buildings in this
special museum are 'Hanok'.
The 'Hanok', which are made similar to the ancient
palaces and houses, shows the dignity of tradition.
Just like the elegance of the exterior 'Hanok',
the furniture on display exude the beauty of Korean tradition.
Let's learn about the wood grains and the antique furniture
that still remain intact from an expert commentator.
The 'Dwiju' is a chest that was used to store grains.
The chest has been built sturdy like the 'Hanok'
to withstand weight and prevent moisture build-up.
Full of the 'Hanok' atmosphere,
the Korea Furniture Museum that radiates
the housing culture of Korea
with its simple furniture should not be missed.
If you walk 500m from the Korea Furniture Museum,
you will come upon another unique location.
Housing a collection of stone artifacts found
throughout Korea is the Korean Stone Art Museum.
As the patron saint of graves
and protector of villages,
these cute 'Dongja' statues were
also known to listen to your wishes.
Both countries will definitely
prosper like the wish, right?
In the outdoor exhibition,
you can see large Buddha statues
and sculptures that embraces the life of Korean ancestors,
which is brimming with the basic human desire to live
a long, healthy, comfortable, and happy life.
The quiet neighborhood of Seongbuk-dong
overlooks the city of Seoul.
As it is full of cultural treasures and museums,
why not experience traditional Korean culture
and art in a special way by visiting this area?

Elegance and Tradition in Korean Furniture - Gallery Talk with Dr. Lyndel King
November 21, 2013 - Dr. Lyndel King, Director and Chief Curator at the University of Minnesota's Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum, introduces traditional Korean furniture with photos from the museum's collection of Korean furniture, the largest in the world with over 200 pieces. Her presentation explores the traditional Korean home and interior furniture, highlighting its craftsmanship, many specialized uses, and regional differences.
Dr. King first became interested in Korean traditional furniture when she met Dr. Edward Wright in the early 1980s. Dr. Wright had built an extensive collection of traditional Korean furniture, ceramics, and screens during his long service as an administrator of the Korean-American Educational (Fulbright) Commission in Seoul between 1967 and 1979. Following his bequest of the collection to the museum in 1988, Dr. King curated several exhibitions of the Weisman's collection of Korean furniture.

National Folk Museum of Korea | 국립민속박물관 | Seoul, South Korea |
The museum was established on 8 November 1945 by the U.S. Government and opened on 25 April 1946 at the City Administration Memorial Hall. When the museum was merged with National Museum of Korea, its collection of 4,555 artifacts was moved to the latter's Mt Namsan site. In 1975, when the National Museum moved onto the grounds of Gyeongbokgung Palace, it moved along with it into the Modern Art Museum Building. In 1993 it opened in its present site, which was the former site of the National Museum of Korea. The building's design is based on various historical buildings around South Korea.

Korean Cultural Attractions in Seoul - Korea Trip Day 1
A day of exploring Korean culture in Seoul. We began by visiting the K-Style hub, home to the Korea Tourism Organization. For lunch we made Korean tofu stew and Korean seafood pancakes. We explored the National Museum of Korea where we made stamps with our names written in Korean. And finally we ended in the day with a typical Korean dinner, Korean Fried Chicken.
