Discrimination may cause difficulties for Hong Kong muslims to build mosque
Segregated schools in Hong Kong sets the stage for locals to live “parallel lives” from a young age, which may in turn cause misunderstanding, isolation and racial prejudice, equal rights advocates say.
The Kwun Tong Mosque, located inside an apartment building, is running at full capacity and is in need of a larger structure. “It’s not only about whether they can build a mosque or not, it’s also about how the community accepts this idea,” says Hong Kong Unison. Watch more videos at

STORYLINE:
Thousands of Hong Kong Muslims marched on Friday to condemn the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, which have triggered demonstrations around the world.
The Muslims, mostly Pakistanis, Indians, Indonesians and Sri Lankans living in the territory, angrily chanted slogans as they marched from a downtown mosque to the local office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.
Organisers said more than 3,000 people participated in the protest, but police put the figure at about 2,000.
The message is very clear. We want to actually pass the message to especially to UN. They should interfere this strictly and they have to control all over the world, not allowing anybody to hurt any religion, said Syed Jamil Raghbi, chairman of Pakistan Traders Association of Hong Kong, and one of the protest organisers.
The crowds dispersed peacefully after march leaders presented a U.N. representative with a petition condemning the cartoons as sacrilegious.
The march was organised to protest a Danish newspaper's publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, which have sparked violent protests throughout the Muslim world.
The drawings, including one depicting the prophet with a turban shaped like a bomb, have since been reprinted in other newspapers including in Europe and the United States.
Hong Kong has a Muslim population of about 70,000, the majority of whom are Chinese.
Several Hong Kong Muslim groups declined to join the protest, fearing that it could incite unrest.
