The temple is a huge cultural complex that was inaugurated in 1997 by Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma.ISKCON Bangalore is a charitable society with the objective of propagating Krishna Consciousness all over the world, as explained by Srila Prabhupada, whose teachings are based on Bhagavad-gita and Srimad Bhagavatam, The society was registered in the year 1978 under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960. The objectivess of the society are derived from the Seven Purposes of ISKCON as stated by Srila Prabhupada.

Around 1976, devotees from different parts of India and the world had initiated activities of ISKCON in different parts of South India like Bangalore, Hubli, Madras, etc. Sankirtans in the streets, enrolling Life Members, arranging programs in the houses, and arranging large public programs in pandals were being conducted.In May 1997, Bangalore Iskcon Temple was inaugurated by the then president of India

ISKCON situated in Bangalore(Karnataka,India) is one of the largest ISKCON temples in the world.Iskcon was founded in 1966 in New York City by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
ISKCON today is a worldwide confederation of more than 550 centres, including 60 farm communities, some aiming for self-sufficiency, 50 schools, and 90 restaurants. In recent decades the most rapid expansions in membership have been within Eastern Europe (especially since the collapse of the Soviet Union) and India.
The term “Hare Krishna”, or The Hare Krishna Movement™ Organization, formally The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), is the orthodox core of Hinduism. It was registered in the West (in New York) in July 1966, but dates back over 5000 years. Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1486-1532) popularized the movement all over India. Hinduism is the world’s third largest religion with over 900 million adherents, second to Christianity and Islam (according to various leading encyclopedias, websites and almanacs). The principal scriptures are The Bhagavad-gita (The Song of God), and the Shrimad Bhagavatam (the story of the Personality of Godhead Shri Krishna Bhagavan). Krishnas believe in one God.

A visit to the Krishna temple at Udupi
Located between the Arabian Sea and the Western ghats, Udupi in Karnataka was founded by the 13th century philosopher saint Madhavacharya. The Krishna temple here has many legends. One says that Madhva saved a ship from capsizing at sea. The grateful captain gave him a gopi chandana or sandalwood clump. Inside it was the idol.
